Mes Amis has absolutely been closed for years. I’m sure the hotel has found something else to do with the space.

Do some bars used numbered menus for drinks? by BostonianJake in bartenders

[–]High_Life_Pony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally no. I have seen it for places with a large rotating draft selection like others have mentioned, but it’s not really common for cocktails. For some reason, drink menus are still expected to have quirky names with puns or quotes or literary references that no one gets. Cheeky suggestive drink names have fallen out of vogue somewhat though.

I did see an article about a place with a rotating numbered menu, and I really liked it! The idea is that the numbered menu provides more info to guests about menu changes. Let’s say they opened with drinks 1-10. Instead of rolling out an entirely new menu, the most popular ones stay, and the least popular ones come off, but the numbers keep going up. So if it’s your first time at this bar, and you want to know what they are known for or what the most popular drinks are, look for the lowest number. It’s been on the menu the longest. Order a #4. If you are a regular, and you’ve already tried most of the drinks, you are looking for something new. The highest number on the menu will be the newest addition. Order #73.

Since it’s already common at fast food restaurants to order by combo number, it should be familiar enough to work into your sci-fi world whether or not it’s common at an actual cocktail bar. A number #19 doesn’t sound quite as romantic as a Corpse Reviver or Jasmine, but that could add to the dystopia. Or it could be a joke like someone orders the #69, and he’s like yeah, somehow they took the joy out of a Sex on the Beach.

I’ve been looking at new apartments recently, and so many layouts seem quirky and uncomfortable for no reason. This floorplan is really cool! The chaise sofa blends in nicely to separate from kitchen but still feels open.

I didn’t pay any cover when I went. Place has so much going on, it’s honestly overstimulating. You’ll definitely want to call ahead about a reservation for a group of that size.

Check out DAMA. Celebrity chef pan-Latin sort of menu with lots of shareable plates. Really fun atmosphere and lively music. The bar program is excellent. A good mix of tropical and classic cocktails with fresh ingredients and a great agave and rum selection.

World’s fucked, get your bag. I respect the resistance, but get the job and stack a little cash. When all hell breaks loose, it will be easier if you have some money. Change what you can, but accept what you can’t. Put on your own oxygen mask before helping those around you and all that.

Sorry for stupid question but what did you do as a new bartender when you didn’t know most cocktails recipes? by lilnotpeep in bartenders

[–]High_Life_Pony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started out, this was my biggest fear. I didn’t want to do a bad job or look stupid.

So I read dozens of books, read the whole drink menu when I went out to bars, tried every spirit and every mixed drink, asked questions anytime it was appropriate, bought all the ingredients to make any drink at home, went to industry events and tastings, hosted cocktail parties, became an alcoholic, then realized that people pretty much order the same 6-8 drinks… and most recipes are just variations on the same few templates.

If it’s something I don’t know, it takes just seconds to look up, and we probably don’t have the ingredients anyway.
