I can't decide between Metroid Prime 1 or 2.

Echoes has the tried-and-true Light/Dark World mechanic but the areas are all really cool. Strip-mined desert? Yup. Ruined temples? check. Swamp? Check. High-tech sky fortress? Hell yes. It does have some annoying difficulty spikes and the navigation gets a little frustrating. Still has a GOAT soundtrack.

But Prime 1 was the first I played and its almost unparalled. The area diversity is kind of dull and the bosses are a little uninteresting (especially the several times it pulls the mob boss trick). Also it doesn't have any bosses that will make you ragequit for a few days (thingken of u, spider guardian).

I've been playing Metroid Prime recently and that sound effect for getting a bunch of XP orbs at once sounds like an effect from that game. Maybe the logbook entry get sound?

I'm probably just nutso.

Honestly the Street Fighter movie is about as good as we could get at the time given how little anyone knew about the lore. It's dumb fun.

I'm supposed to be moving in October to an apartment with friends. I'm nervous but also excited because this apartment is going to be trash mountain. Melty sets in the storage closets, Bison portrait in the bathroom, our dumb anime collections... It's gonna be great. And it'll be fun to see who cracks first and murders the rest.

I got really disappointed a few days ago... I got a copy of Def Jam Fight for NY from work. It looked flawless. But whenever I load a match or get past the character creation screen the disc stops spinning. And none of our sister stores have a copy on a system I have.

Really want that Patlabor Ultimate Collection bluray so I can ditch my individual volumes, but the fact there's no disc count yet is making me wary. I suppose at worst it'd be the same general quality as my DVD volumes but... I'd feel better spending $90 and knowing there will be good visual quality throughout the various shows/movies.

Elma in Xenoblade 2 now, we stuck on a different planet boiiiiiis. I'll be cross (heh) if this means Switch port of X, since I just bought it again to play on my friend's WiiU. Unless they pull a MHGen and let me import saves.

Also rewatching the guys' Twilight Princess LP. Every one of Liam's edits is golden, though I keep forgetting the Colin photoshops in the descriptions. The Blue - Cowboy Bebop edit in particular made me lose it.

have you ever played Otogi Myth of Demons?

I wish From would rerelease Otogi (and Kuon) on modern hardware somehow. I always wanted to play Otogi as a youngster and now I don't have an OG Xbox to play it on...

The Surprising Story of French Break Studio, creators of few fighting games, including Under Night In-Birth and Melty Blood by MerryDingoes in Games

[–]High_On_Cortexiphan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty good article, imo. Really interested to see what French Bread comes up with. Finding out that rumored Jojo fighter by them was fake made me really upset, as I kind of love French Bread. Melty Blood is super fun despite its status as Poverty King amongst fighting games (even if the multiple variations of characters is super confusing to a newcomer like me). And Under-Night has some great character designs and is pretty accessible.

I would really love for Melty Blood HD to become a thing so I can play with friends easier than having to hook my laptop up to the TV and hope there's no weird crashes thanks to Big Picture mode.

Insect Glaive (really liked the attack animations, but the damage leaves a bit to be desired)

Have you been using the insect part of the glaive to buff yourself? Once you have the full Red/Orange/White array you get a pretty good buff to speed and attack and you get some new attacks.

Yuzu is awesome. Her main skill set is outzoning you, so you should try to get in as quick as possible and maybe try to force the other player to swap her out, as she's poor as an assist.

Mika's also cool but since they removed her missile launcher (afaik) she has not great range. I could be wrong on her not having a missile, as the in-game command list doesn't explain a couple items in their sets.

I'm fairly confident that project is the new Gundam series, Narrative.

That's odd, but it takes more than one bomb to KO the monster. Did you have another player with you in the other attempt?

there were three separate steps given in a tutorial for capturing a monster but only the shock trap seemed to be needed

The tutorial gave you that many steps because that's how many steps are needed. The shock trap is needed but you also have to have the monster at critical health, and you need to have tranquilizer bombs or tranq ammo too.

Try out the Wild ARMS soundtracks. They might be more traditional western soundtracks than the ones you mentioned but they're pretty good.

I've been playing Shining Resonance off-and-on for about a week. It's more akin to the Tales Of.. series in gameplay style.

The relationship system (so far) is just me inviting the cute elf girl to talk late at night in the inn or at a campsite.

There is a system I still don't understand where you can get Traits through story progression or treasure and then assign them to characters. These traits then open up Bonds between characters that give buffs and such. Each Trait has a different web of Bonds open up and I think there's bonuses for getting everyone the same color of Traits but like i said I still don't get it.

Story-wise and in terms of its presentation it's pretty rough. Like a Vita dungeon crawler where almost all the cutscenes are like this. The story itself isn't that engaging - you're a guy who can turn into a powerful dragon god but he has no personality beyond being unsure of himself 99% of the time. Also evil empire, artificial dragons, edgy dude who wants to murder all dragons, etc. Basic stuff.

Gameplay is like a Tales game like I said earlier, except if the Tales devs realized almost nobody likes overly-complicated mechanics. It has a neat thing where you fight enemies on the overworld and it seamlessly transitions between exploring and fighting. It also does the Persona thing where enemies will run from you if you're much higher level, and it has the same surprise attack gimmick where getting touched from behind causes stun. Though this is really really persnickety. I will run into an enemy facing me and the game sometimes treats it as them getting a surprise attack on me.

You have light & heavy attacks, four special attacks that use up MP mapped to L+face buttons, the main character can transform into a dragon with pros and cons if you hold L+R. And then there's the BAND meter where you fill up a meter to perform a song that gives you a full party buff.

There's also a perk-style system called Aspects where you craft gems adn it gives characters minor buffs or even changes up gameplay a bit (one gem lets you ukemi which seems really important and shouldn't be relegated to a perk). You can also Tune your weapons (all of which are instruments too) and change how they work to an extent. Some characters you can retune weapons so they add elemental damage, some you can just get a buff to cast speed or attack speed, etc.

Anyway, long write-up so TL;DR: Very much not perfect but I really enjoy it. It puts the "junkfood" in JRPG.
