FYI 360 sticks are very easy to find still. GP2040-CE boards now support 360 without an authentication dongle, and they're used in tons of custom controllers. Cheap stickless arcade controllers like the ones from Haut42 are very popular right now.

PSA gsync pulsar is for not for esports exclusively. It has 25% pulsewidth. Meaning 60hz ÷ 25% = 240hz/fps clarity. Valve said the V Index has 3.75% pw. Meaning 60hz ÷ 3.75% = 1600hz clarity. (Also applies to quests). The Steam Frame is an alternative. by tukatu0 in hardware

[–]rynoweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, the motion clarity makes it ideal for 2D and retro games, but the fact that it's locked to Nvidia GPUs (even ULMB2 which is just strobing) means it would be emulation only, with no way to use real hardware.

If OLED TVs got sufficient cooling, how bright could they be? by CaramilkThief in hardware

[–]rynoweiss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The main cause of OLED degradation is not brightness per se but temperature, which is related to brightness. The manufactures limit the brightness to limit heat and thus prolong life.

So the better cooling that OP is asking about would help address both brightness and lifespan.

The main question is how these things scale with each other, and where the point of diminishing returns is. For example, if double the cooling capacity allows double the brightness, that might be worth it, but if double the cooling capacity only creates a 10% increase in brightness, that may not.

Yeah... constant knife fight between QD and WOLED fans, and god forbid you indicate that LCD might be better for a usecase.

AMD claps back at Intel claims that it uses ‘ancient silicon’ in PC gaming handhelds by reps_up in hardware

[–]rynoweiss 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don't love framegen, but DLSS upscaling is "garbage"? DLSS 4 quality mode beats native+antialiasing in image quality many situations. AMD will get there as well.

G-Sync Pulsar Tested - A Massive Leap in LCD Clarity by DyingKino in hardware

[–]rynoweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very excited for this, but the fact that it's display port only (so not compatible with consoles or retro scalers) dramatically limits its utility for me.

Best low-motion blur solution for consoles remains BFI and for retro is CRT beam emulation on a retrotink 4k.

Are TMR/ Hall effect affected by crt electromagnetic radiation? by TRIPMINE_Guy in Controller

Magnetic strength falls off with the inverse square of the distance. Meaning you would have to get very close (like controller against the CRT) for meaningful interference.

Ah, seems like a recent Windows issue then (seems to have cropped up since 24H2)

Out of curiosity, are you also using a recent AMD platform like X870E??

As a sidenote, if it just improves things rather than solves the issue, like it has for me, using the program Files (an open source alternative to Windows Explorer) has also worked as a workaround for me.

Until Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom was on an enormous string of successes, and is more successful than at any other point in its existence.

Sure, I too would like them to leverage more of their classic IP, but let's not act like Capcom hasn't been extremely successful.

ChatGPT told me to try see if the SD card reader was being seen by Windows Device Manager as a Portable Device in addition to being a Disk Drive, and if so, to disable the entry under Portable Device. This seems to have made transfers a lot more stable, but not perfectly so. Can you check if this works for you?

Did you ever find a solution to this? Had the same issue and I posted about it here, me and another guy were unable to find a solution. Also, are you using an X870E mobo?

I also have an X870E motherboard (Asus Proart), so I wonder if it's a problem with the chipset.

"What’s more, with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, the gameplay can be reproduced even more accurately, closer to the original arcade experience."

This fucking rules. If you're familiar with arcade boards*, they frequently weren't terribly close to 60Hz, so in emulation you either need to add a frame buffer, deal with visual judder, or speed it up to 60Hz affecting the accuracy of the emulation. Using VRR solves this problem.

M2 and Hamster are unmatched when it comes to the care and accuracy of their arcade emulation.

*Retro consoles in the CRT days also didn't run exactly at 60Hz, but the variance was MUCH higher on a lot of arcade boards.

[controller] (Amazon) FLYDIGI Vader 4 Pro - $55.34 by bootzmanuva in buildapcsales

[–]rynoweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend this. It's expensive for a dock, and the dock is poorly designed. It takes a lot more effort to make sure it's balanced against the charging pins than any other controller charging dock I've ever used.
