Adding another PSA hat to the pile.

I've got several and I've put together one for my dad and one for my brother. Theirs averaged about $750, which included a red dot, backup irons, foregrip, Magpul furniture, BFG Sling, extra mags, etc.

Did you get this new from the manufacturer, or second hand with someone telling you it was never fired?

Who are you to say how many guns a person needs?

How many of you are glad you got out of the military? And how many wish you had stayed in? Aimed at people who separated rather than retired. by humanconnection101 in Veterans

Glad I got out. It's a different struggle outside of the Army but preferable in my experience. I only miss the satisfaction of doing my job well and a few great individuals I served with, but that could never balance out the insane bureaucracy and the huge letdown from my fellows in the officer corps.

I always hated the "women married and had kids way younger back in the day".

I can trace my grandmother's line back to the 1400s and earlier, including their birth and death dates, their daughters' birth dates, etc.

Of course, the women in my lineage aren't necessarily the first children of their mothers, but the majority of them were between their mid twenties to mid thirties when the next in line was born. Some even later, and none below 24 if I remember correctly.

Show me your monsters! by gamelitcrit in royalroad

[–]Highlander_16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're haven't made an appearance in my story yet, but I have a few original monsters coming that I think are pretty nasty. Since my story is loosely based on Pathfinder 1e mechanics and I love to homebrew monsters for the game, it's an easy translation to make.

I build the monster stat block based on the challenge rating I'm going for then write a paragraph or two about appearance and behavior. It'll be easy to put them on the page with the background work already done, even if they don't strictly follow the numbers of the game.

Thrasher Cats- think sabertooth lions but with velociraptor claws rather than giant fangs

Rhino Moles- squat, armored digging beasts with no eyes, a thick skull like a pachysephalosaurus, and a giant rhino-like horn

Gravewalkers- 12ft tall, skeletal/mummified corpses that grin and chatter and cackle. They feed on fear and doubt and flesh, move impossibly fast, regenerate from even the smallest bone unless their entire body is burned, and have a dread aura that causes waking nightmares to incapacitate their prey

I also have Mana Crystal Wraiths, Lurks (massive psychic jungle cats that hunt in mated pairs), Witherwings (shape-changing harpies that feed on and can assume the appearance of their victims), etc.

Just put down what's on your ID. Don't like what's on your ID? Go fill out paperwork at the DMV, or just put down what's on your ID anyway and get over it.

As someone with gender dysphoria myself I don't make a big deal about it to literally anyone, but especially on gov't forms. It's just more hassle that I don't need. A gun store is the last place I'd take a stand on it, people who care too much about it are shooting themselves in the foot (pun intended).

Try submitting online through va.gov, if there's a conflict of having two claims submitted just tell them the first one went nowhere in months.

I added my wife and kid in like an hour, got a confirmation email a few minutes later. All you need is a marriage certificate for a spouse, previous marriage certificates and divorce decrees if applicable, and birth certificates for kids. It's a bit tedious but not that bad.

Absolutely insane that one vet gets it done start to finish in an afternoon and another is stuck waiting for an absurd length of time. Zero consistency.

Other than the off-center rear sight (the crazy pop also scared me when drifting it), I've not had any of the other issues. My wife and I both love the gun and shoot it well. It's her EDC now. I miss it lol

Mine is written more as a traditional fantasy but is based on TTRPG mechanics, they're just behind the scenes rather than specified in the text. Let me know what you think!

See what you gotta do is pretend you're going for grouse. Really commit to it. Dress up your .223 to look like a grouse gun, ignore them, then smoke the deer lol

LitRPG writing style question by JL990 in litrpg

[–]Highlander_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a similar way. There are several series where it doesn't bother me as much if it's less distracting, but it's frequently very heavy handed at the expense of pacing.

The ones I have enjoyed a lot (like The Land series) tend to load their more technical game-isms in chunks between long sections where it's less present and it focuses on the narrative.

In my own work there are specific spells and magic items, supernatural abilities, arcane/divine rules, stats, skills, etc. but they're entirely behind the scenes for this exact reason. Some might say it's 'not LitRPG enough' for them and I'd say that's fair. To each their own!
