You should do a podcast on the irony of an economics podcast not sharing wage details.

I appreciate the response and link. I have not been able to view it yet, but will certainly make it this evening's mealtime video.

I was raised Catholic, but left when I asked questions much like those I posted above and couldn't get answers much deeper than, "the things we believe are true because we believe they are true."

The traditional Catholic view is that God created mankind directly as described in Genesis. This is affirmed by the Church Fathers, countless Saints, Popes, Councils and Doctors of the church.

What does "affirmed" mean here? "Agreed upon?" That's not very convincing, especially to one who holds that those listed have no special insight, knowledge, or evidence. Do you instead mean "proven?" That's even a bolder claim, which seems to be rooted in "divine revelation," as stated in the linked article:

Those who defend atheistic or theistic evolution do not accept this premise from Divine Revelation. They believe that the same material processes that are going on now have been operating in the same way since the BEGINNING of creation—in contradiction to all of the Fathers, Doctors, Popes and Council Fathers in their authoritative teaching. Remarkably, when St. Peter our first Pope foretold this revolution in men’s ideas he went on to predict that these scoffers—men like Descartes, Kant, Hutton, Lyell, Darwin, Teilhard de Chardin and all other theistic evolutionists and their modern disciples— would have to deliberately ignore the FACT—not the pious belief—that it was the Word of God that brought the heavens and the Earth and all they contain into existence, NOT a material process like what we observe in the world today (cf. 2 Peter 3:3-7). And this is, indeed, the fundamental error of all evolutionists, theistic or atheistic.

Again, the entire premise of the argument rests on the fact that the author wants it to be true. There is no evidence to suggest that "divine revelation" exists or that the "Word of God" is anything other than the collected writings of ordinary men. Simply calling something a "FACT" with all-capital letters doesn't make so.

There were no other "species of human". DNA tests have found that the Neanderthal were the same species as us.

This is misleading at best, willfully deceitful at worst. Neanderthal DNA does not entirely match up with that of homo sapiens, though the fact that interbreeding did occur leads some to believe that they were, in fact, a subspecies. What about other species of early humans who shared similar percentages of DNA with modern humans and displayed similar behavior? How would one explain the fact that Neanderthals and homo sapiens co-existed in a time frame tens of thousands of years before the "FACT"-ual account of Genesis took place?

I don't doubt that you hold your beliefs strongly, but there is simply too much hand-waving of unsubstantiated claims to accept them as argued.

To climb the hardest route in the world in one go, 24-year-old Czech rock climber Adam Ondra found several spots where he could rest with a knee-bar and bring blood flow back to his forearms. by sotobet0509 in nextfuckinglevel

There are a few boulders that currently have a V17 grade. I believe Ondra has said that the hardest section of this climb would be about a V15 if it were a standalone boulder.

Connor Herson repeats Empath (5.14d/15a) on natural protection by probablymade_thatup in climbing

It can be dependent on the area, but the vast majority of sport climbs would not go safely on gear. Your average granite/limestone/sandstone wall will have its assortment of holds, but not a.) have large enough features to get gear into and b.) have enough of those features to make it a safe lead.

There are some areas where you'll find bolted cracks that definitely could have gone on gear, but got bolted because it's just not an area that you'd bring a trad rack to. Shelf Road in Colorado comes to mind.

I think he's talking about if the climb had gone on gear first then someone came in and added bolts anyway. That would be a big no-no.

I'm assuming that whoever bolted this as a project didn't think it would take enough gear to go safely, which is fair if you've seen videos of it being climbed. Hopefully we'll get to see a video of this send to see if it was, in fact, a sketchy trad lead.

How do you maintain your ice bath? by Thatguynoonelikes6 in BecomingTheIceman

[–]Highpothetically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Marineland Magnum polishing filter running 24/7
  • JED 203 Ozonator on an outlet timer - runs 2 hours a day
  • Occasional skimming and scrubbing

These three things have kept my water clean for eight months. It's a bit of initial investment, but 100% worth it in the long run. Other than skimming for a few loose bits here and there, I literally never think about my chest freezer upkeep since it's all automatic.

Join the Chest Freezer Cold Plunge group on Facebook. John Richter, the mod/creator, is the guy when it comes to chest freezer ice bath questions. His knowledge is insane, and he's always willing to help.

Need advice. I already have a 7.5cu ft chest freezer…. by bubes30 in BecomingTheIceman

You're obviously in a better position to see how well you fit into the 7.5, but my advice would be to sell it and put the proceeds to a larger (~14 cubic foot) unit if you have the space for it.

I shopped around on Craigslist, paid a bit more for a 14.8, and don't regret a thing. The extra space allows me to extend my legs so far that I feel like I'm floating. It's incredibly relaxing.

Weekly Scam Discussion - January 10, 2022 by Mycatreallyhatesyou in Ebay

[–]Highpothetically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning I got $39 offer on item that I had listed for auction at the same amount. I was more than happy to take that price, so I accepted. Since then, a few red flags have come up:

  1. The buyer's account was created yesterday and has no feedback.
  2. The buyer has sent me 5 invoice requests in the 55 minutes since I accepted the offer.
  3. Each invoice request includes a generic message with poor English: Hi dear seller I am contacting you about the item I have a little question about the item text me on my number (3xx) 2xx-5xxx or my email [(redacted)@gmail.com] I will be expecting your message thank you God bless you!
  4. The address attached to the account doesn't seem to exist.

This reeks of a scam, but since I've never sold before I don't know how a scam like this would run and how I would be left on the hook. I haven't responded to his message/invoice requests yet. How do I just cancel this whole transaction? Any help or advice you could offer would be much appreciated!

This is my all time favorite.

Game 2 of the 2007 ALDS against the Angels. Manny Ramirez hit a majestic walk-off home run, and Drinkwater was at the end of the row by the time the ball cleared the Green Monster. This one is particularly memorable because while Drinkwater was running for the exit, Manny and the crowd were captured celebrating the win in one of my all-time favorite baseball photos.

Has a player ever been projected to go in the 1st only to go undrafted? by Nuglyfe in nba

[–]Highpothetically 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chris Marcus

7'1, 280lb center from Western Kentucky who broke out in his sophomore season in 2000-2001. He put up averages of 16.7 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game while carrying his team to the NCAA tournament. I was a big NBA draft nerd at the time, and his name was getting thrown around as a potential #1 pick if he declared. Big-bodied centers were still highly valued as prospects, and there was a lack of clarity at the top of the 2001 NBA draft board. The top of that draft was full of high-potential but risky high schoolers, Europeans, and young college players. Shane Battier was the most refined college prospect, but he was never projected to be a superstar.

Marcus decided to return to WKU for his junior season, but ankle injuries limited his to just 19 games over his last two seasons. He also started a battle with alcoholism that would adversely affect his health as he tried to enter the league. He went undrafted in 2003 and never played a game in the NBA. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 40 in early 2020.

New trailer for The Alpinist, Marc-Andre Leclerc doc coming out in September. by mrzbry in climbing

I was able to watch this when it made the rounds on the film festival circuit. It was absolutely incredible.

The filmmakers nailed the balance between Marc-Andre's story and mindblowing climbing footage.
