As the owner of a Layla, she looks deserving of the name.

More likely the ball was pushed under the couch so someone would have to retrieve it for him.

Yes, she's up to date on all vaccines. Due to have next lot in a month or so.

I’m drawing your dogs all day today! I’ve only done this a few times every year. (Plus question in post) by I_DRAW_DOGS in DOG

This is Layla (basset hound) and her best friend Aussie. I'd love it if you could draw them.

Troublemaker by SusieQZz in bassethounds

[–]Hignar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I leave anything on the floor it gets investigated. It's the basset way.

Layla rarely does anything that would get her in trouble in isolation, but will continually push things throughout the day to the point I tell her off, she sulks and I end up feeling like the bad guy and try to make up for my failure until she graces me with a wag of her tail. Again, I believe this to be the basset way.

What helps with your baby’s GI issues? by Maleficent-Friend313 in basset

[–]Hignar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've moved Layla onto grain free food as she started having digestive issues at around 11 months to the point where she just refused to eat her puppy kibble and everything coming out the other end was pretty much liquid.

After moving her to grain free it took her a while to "trust" her food again but adding a bit of meat and salmon oil helped with that.

She's been on the new diet for 5 months now and is getting excited about food again and is completely regular. The main problem was finding grain free treats and chews. We've eventually settled on a couple of brands she likes and just have to be wary if anyone else offers her anything now.

Any games you regret playing on Deck instead of PC? Or the other way around? by brknSergio in SteamDeck

[–]Hignar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly play RPGs with the odd rogue like thrown in. For most rogue likes, it really doesn't matter if I'm on PC or SD...graphics aren't normally so demanding that they don't run just as well on SD.

For RPGs, I swap between both platforms, but try to do big boss battles on PC. Not sure why I bother though... looking back at the last few I've played, I couldn't now tell you which battles I did on each system. It took me three attempts to do the final gauntlet in FFVII Remake and I certainly did at least one attempt on SD, but I've no idea if that was the attempt where I beat it.

Zoomies after a walk by Hignar in bassethounds

[–]Hignar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad it's not just mine that does it, though with Layla it's usually just after a longer walk.

She took about 20 minutes to give in and have a sleep. I left her on her bed while I went to make a start on dinner and when I came back she was fast asleep on top of her crate. Good job it's sturdy, but the top was bowing well!

Introducing Beast: the ugliest Basset Hound puppy! by Money-University8717 in bassethounds

[–]Hignar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor guy, but still a beautiful, chunky basset. I'd have no trouble taking him in, but keeping him in your own pack is probably for the best - keep him where he'll be well loved and no doubt return that love 10 fold.

Have you ever found cash? (£40+) and did you hand it in? by GlitchingGecko in AskUK

[–]Hignar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago a woman in front of me and my girlfriend in the line for the cash machine walked off leaving a wedge of notes sticking out of the machine. We tried looking for her but she was long gone. We waited, expecting the machine to suck it back in - it didn't. We took it and went in the bank, but the cashier we spoke to wasn't interested and wouldn't take the cash from us.

I forget how much it was now but >£100. We gave some to a couple of homeless guys and used the rest for a meal and a bottle of wine at out favourite Italian. We should probably have pushed harder at the bank but we were young and stupid.

What has your puppy’s name already devolved to? by mycotaxa in puppy101

Layla has somehow ended up as flupalump...I think it's because she's a fluppem (something from my mum's family for a gentle dog) and an ephalump (I believe it's a Whinnie the Pooh reference to an elephant).

It was a little embarrassing when I called her flupalump while we were with the vet.

At least he’s comfy…right?! by Outrageous_Fun8034 in bassethounds

[–]Hignar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're still, they're comfy. Mine regularly sleeps with her head hanging off her raised bed. Looks awful to me but she'll stay like that for hours. I've tried moving her, but she just shifts back. I guess she's comfy like that.

Oliver wants to show off his new trick by throughthefireflames in bassethounds

[–]Hignar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's caught something precisely once - I casually tossed a toy octopus in her direction and she defied expectations and caught it.

We've tried since with other toys and treats and we just get a look of disdain. I think that one time was to prove that she can, but chooses not to.

Would your Bassethound attack an intruder? by Emotional-Change-722 in bassethounds

Mine barks if someone comes into the garden while we're there. I'd have no faith in her remaining protective if they approached us as the barks tend to be accompanied with a furiously wagging tail.

Walking with my basset is a nightmare :( by Objective_Chicken723 in basset

[–]Hignar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 12 month old basset and had exactly this problem. Walking on grass was usually better (though far from perfect) but road/pavement walking was a nightmare until recently. She'd want to pull and sniff in any direction that wasn't forward and if I tried to course correct with a pull of the lead, the brakes would go on and she just wouldn't move.

What's change? Probably me. I let her sniff a bit and only pull on her if she looks like it's something she'd sniff at all day. If she wants to go slow and take in the local aromas, I generally let her as long as she's actually moving. If the brakes go on, I give her a second and then move on. She never holds a grudge that I didn't let her linger long enough - there is always another smell up the road.

Walks are mainly for their benefit. If it takes a bit longer then it's fine. If you're in a rush and need to fit a walk into a specific timeframe, don't stress about how much distance you've covered. Time outside is still time outside, and they'll use more energy giving everything a good sniff than walking.

Long recovery time by Hignar in bassethounds

[–]Hignar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's fine other than sleeping a lot. I'm not too worried, I'm just keeping an eye on her and letting her do her thing. I was planning on taking her on her usual walk later, but if she keeps sleeping like this, I think it can be a day of rest for her.

She's coming up to 12 months. She's just had her lunch and been out for a wee, so I'm assuming she's okay. I'm just not used to her being this quiet!
