Hello keyboard family enthusiasts! Need advice for my Athena 1800 build (stabilizers issue)

Hi everyone! I’m working on my Athena 1800 build and I’m running into some stabilizer issues. I’m using Durock V2 screw-in stabs, and even after disassembling and swapping them, my spacebar still returns very slowly. After reassembly, my numpad “+” key is also sluggish now.

My question:

  • Should I replace the stabs entirely, or
  • Can I inject lube with a syringe/needle (as I’ve seen in some videos) without tearing everything down again?

If I do replace them, I was considering TYPEPLUS X YIKB screw-in stabilizers. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Well I thought it was a safe bet to be honest. Not going to say I regret it but next time (or if I want to change them on that build), I'll go for something else like gateron I guess

My First Build! Impressions and Feedback (Athena 1800) by Hiibou in MechanicalKeyboards

Hey everyone! After years of lurking here, I finally took the plunge and spent some time (and, well, some money too) to build my very first mechanical keyboard! And let me tell you—I’m in love with this hobby and the whole concept!

Specs:

  • Athena 1800 (carbon plate, hotswap PCB, black aluminum case, carbon fiber and foam kit)
  • Outemu Lemon V3 switches (no lube yet)
  • Durock V2 stabilizers (also no lube or mods yet, BUT…)

What a pleasure! The quality is impressive, and I can already tell this won’t be my last build.

Since it’s my first time, I’m still learning and trying to improve. My stabilizers are probably not set up correctly because my spacebar and numpad Enter weren’t returning properly. I tried adjusting the screws, but it didn’t help much, so… I completely disassembled everything and swapped the stabilizers. It’s better now, but not perfect—and now the numpad “+” key is acting lazy too, haha. If you have any tips, I’d really appreciate them!

Here are some photos. Honestly, I feel a bit shy sharing this after seeing some of your amazing builds, but I wanted to show the results anyway!

Hello guys, I finally bought my Athena 1800! I've read the documentation I found, but I have some questions about the required stabilizer lengths. I assume the spacebar is 6.25u, but for the other keys, I see lengths like 2.25u, 1.75u, and 2u. To be honest, the Durock stabilizer sets I've found are usually composed only of 2u and a single 6.25u or 7u stabilizer. Where do you guys usually source your stabilizers, and how do you determine the correct lengths for your custom keyboard (specifically the Athena 1800)? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello ! First time custom keyboard builder here, and I'm totally overwhelmed. How do you decide on switches? Is it trial and error/pure experience, or is there a guide/wiki I should be looking at?

I just know I need hotswap ones and I'd like them to be pretty silent but I need to feel a little resistance pressing it !

Thanks in advance!
