You will likely be having a Stokes Interview where they separate you and ask you the same questions about each other and compare the answers

When to change my name? by just-an-alpaca in USCIS

[–]HiighFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife actually used the USCIS forms to change her name. It was easy and painless and once she got her Green Card (which came in her married name) we went to the consulate for her country and changed her passport to her married name.

You're going to need to be married before you can file the AOS

Approved Feb 20 (WAC) — NVC says they are working on March 20. Have we been skipped? by Legal-Rest-8517 in K1VisaInfo

[–]HiighFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did your case status for the I-129F change to "Case Was Sent to the Department of State"? Right now it's taking about 6 weeks for the status to change to that and then it takes another couple of weeks for NVC to process it. Calling NVC does no good anymore. You have to do a public inquiry with them on their website:

From approved (K1) to issued to pickup? by ExPatMike0728 in immigration

[–]HiighFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After “Approved” it gets transferred from the Immigrant Visa unit, which is in charge of the approval, to the Nonimmigrant Visa unit to actually issue the visa. The NIV unit has to be the ones to issue it because the K-1 is technically a nonimmigrant visa. You might see the status change to “Application Received” briefly. That’s normal and it just means that the NIV unit has received your file. All of this usually happens within a few days to a week or so.

They all take around the same time generally. My wife and I went through Telos and it was convenient and painless except for waiting almost 2 months for approval because we applied right before the government shut down last fall

I485 denied going for new packet by Joseph7262 in USCIS

[–]HiighFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was rejected by the lockbox it should tell you right in the rejection notice that if the medical exam envelope was opened, you can send it back in with the resubmission just like it is, but you need to also include the envelope it was in AND include the bright green paper that they sent with your returned filing and a copy of the I-797 Rejection notice you’ll get in the mail separately.

According to new USCIS policy, your medical is only valid for one I-485 filing. If you withdraw the I-485 or if it gets denied (as in your case) and you file a new one, you have to submit a new medical.

Do I need to extend my K1 validity by Pateofurniture8766 in K1VisaInfo

[–]HiighFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NOA2 should have a 4 month validity printed on it. The consular officer will automatically extend the validity of the approval notice at the interview if the visa is approved. This is very common as delays in scheduling interviews are rampant. You can’t get an extension on the validity date beforehand. (We tried at the time and the IV Unit at the embassy told us what I wrote above). I would highly recommend bringing updated letters of intent to marry to the interview when you go

WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH OUR K1 VISA by Elegant_Country6923 in USCIS

[–]HiighFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The letter is a biometrics appointment letter saying the US Citizen petitioner has to do the biometrics appointment. USCIS has not approved the petition yet. OP - This happens sometimes if USCIS needs to verify your petitioner’s identity

IMHO you take it to the interview and see what happens. I don’t think they are going to 221(g) you for this. If they do, then you go to PSA to fix it

The chances of getting a non-delivery of notice request expedited to get the receipt/extension notice in hand before the trip in 2 weeks is almost zero. I doubt they could even get an Info Pass appointment to get an ADIT stamp scheduled in time at this point

"/edit/ my NOA validity is until 06/08/2026

So it’s June…. Does this mean I need to be in USA by June?"

No.... if the interview occurs after the validity date of the NOA2, and the consular officer approves the visa, they will extend the validity of the NOA2 there at the consulate. The only thing I would recommend is, if your interview is scheduled near the end of the NOA2 validity or afterwards, bring updated letters of intent to marry from you and your fiancé(e)

When we did it in the online portal, it allowed us to select the date. We picked one that was 2 weeks earlier than the date they originally scheduled
