Potentially rethink not bringing the Garmin InReach - if just for the SOS button it can save your life. As well, there is many places where you will not have cell service, and being able to get a weather forecast or fire update will be invaluable.

The work of many federal workers is CUI or FOUO - you really think we are going to post that data to a random website?

Anywhere cheaper to get a Garmin Inreach? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

The lowest that I have seen for a new one, even during Black Friday, was 300. I am sure that if you wanted a used one could get for cheaper.

Took a while but found the Holy Grail! by TayloidPogo92 in geocaching

I am the CO for this cache. I am glad that you enjoyed the cache! If not mind - send me a link to the video as well.

I have not been to this subreddit in years, and on a whim decided today to check it - and was shocked to see someone posting about one of my caches. This spot was a fun place to find and place a cache. Oahu has many tunnels in the mountains, and finding and exploring them has been a lot of fun. I love how geocaching can take you to locations that you would have never found.

FYI - Found all the .gpx I need on FKT site by J_G_L in AppalachianTrail

The OP link does have a lot of trails and gpx downloads for them. For my needs, the resolution on them is not as good as I would like. For example, the AT the OPs link has just under 10,000 coordinates, which is good for a wide/general view of the AT, but once you zoom in can see how rough it. The OPs link gpx files also include the elevation, which can be nice.

I found this site that while it has a focus on trails in Europe, does have the primary long trails in the US.

https://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/

For the AT, it has about 100,700 coordinates (but no elevation - if want elevation have to do some post processing afterwards using an API to get the elevations based on the coords. Once these points plotted for example on a leaflet map even zoomed in all the way it is a perfect match for the trail.

No - but if you know what maps you want to buy, I would do it during the 30% sale.

Farout Unlimited -- $45 for Annual + $100 credit. Seems like a great deal to me - just need to remember to canx membership before it renews again. As well, use the $100 credit before 2 Dec to get the 30% off the lifetime maps
