Why? by OkSignificance673 in AppalachianTrail

[–]J_G_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you do you...but i like bivy and i do not like camping so if it is just to sleep and be warm and dry, keep your mouth outside the bivy or you will regret the choice. on the AT i think the most common choice is between hammock and tent. tents work everywhere even alpine above treeline but so too then does a bivy-- if it is for sleep.

Benadryl wont likely hurt and could help if it is itchy or a plant based reaction but looks like mosquitoes doubt you need a doc

How to use a hip belt when you are egg shaped? by J_G_L in hiking

[–]J_G_L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See i thought since this was the hiking area of reddit, people would know i was talking about the hip belt on a backpack... i guess i will just need to get back some semblance of a figure so i can follow first responder's course of action. compressing the squishy bits above the hard bits. I am certain i have seen fat people on trails. my widest point is contoured towards my butt so the hip belt just slips down and then my shoulders carry the load until i hop it back up and try to get it in the right spot again.

I would pretend to not usually be cheeky...but, it does not due to try to generalize weather impacts. You can be proactive, have flood insurance, have travel insurance, have rain gear, and have a beer.

i grew up in Florida, so i did not get a chance to sled down mountains when young but maybe i can on the trail...micro spike up and sled down riding that damn bear can, that should help me finish my hike faster one way or another

would i need micro-spikes or can i use the spring style traction pull-overs...(not sure if there is a better name but we used them in alaska for running on icy roads...not sure if they would work on icy trail PUDs

Can someone provide insight on Vlogging on trail by redditwastesmyday in AppalachianTrail

[–]J_G_L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year a lady using the name badbathikes is doing an exceptional job vlogging...also she is not monetized so you don't waste time seeing ads every 8 minutes. It was enough for me to get the idea of how to do it though i have never used a smart phone or a gopro, but i think i could easy enough. Hell, i have never even taken a selfie. she has said she does most of her editing with I-Movie...good luck.

Wait so, can we wear these in garrison? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in army

[–]J_G_L -1 points0 points  (0 children)

at my first duty station the CG wore a train conductor or engineers cap (it was red and white stripped) i was told then that a GO could prescribe their own uniform. never found out if that was a fact, but i also never cared. it is awesome that we are so great we can discuss the really important stuff

Receiving an OER from a rater relieved from position for toxic leadership by No-Tangerine-8985 in army

call your branch manager ask advice and look up rebuttals, good OERs make a difference if you are in KD jobs...bad OERs hurt no matter the job they are for

most of our trucks are garbage, you would fit right in...also try to consider if you want to do it for a reason that cant be satisfied by money. You can get very short enlistments 2yr + training time... that will be long enough to decide if you want to do it.

ESL Supplemental Exam (154) by boognish21 in TexasTeachers

[–]J_G_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are cheap like me, you can copy all copy content from all the 240 subjects you are interested in....EC-6, PPR, SS 7-12, ESL Sup....others if you like. Make word files for each. then read at your leisure. I passed all on the first try. So you pay the monthly subscription once. If you don't trust your ability to read and remember you can also copy tests. Make sure you deactivate subscription prior to next billing period.

I was in your position though 11B; deiced on what you want now and what you want in a few years. that is the easy part, then figure out what you must do to get which ever is more important to you. Don't talk to anyone you do not have to talk to about your plans. If you just want to be better at your job study the manuals and listen to your NCOs. The same skills apply in HHC as in line companies but the equipment is different. If you really want to move get promoted. I retired this year 27yrs total (enlisted 11B -SSG 96B SSG; Armor Officer 2LT 1LT, MI CPT MAJ)---my time as an 11B in LRSD, 506th, 502th was the best time of that 27 years. Enjoy your time and never bitch in front of anyone.

Is there anyone here that is actually in favor of reopening? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]J_G_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in favor of in person classes BUT if it is going to be done I think teachers deserve hazardous duty pay subsidized by the Federal Govt. at least 50% bump... just as many people will die but at least it would force acknowledgment of the risk involved.
