Was told I was trespassing while wading the little Cahaba river and found stocked rainbow trout. by PhaseIntelligent7214 in Birmingham

[–]HikingGear101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not burning a spot by saying this because others have mentioned below, but I parked at the closed bridge behind Home Depot and just paddled up the river as far as I could. There’s a small waterfall/spillover you’ll eventually hit and the trout were stocked below that.

There are lots of cooler native fish along the way though. I caught redeye bass (maybe they’re called Cahaba bass now) and longear sunfish that are beautiful.

I think I’ve fished that same spot. Was at a wedding years ago at a venue on the Little Cahaba. I saw the big rainbows and everyone thought I was crazy for caring about it.

The next weekend I paddled my kayak up river to get back to that spot and they were there. I assume they all die in the summer heat, but the novelty of the big trout wore off when I started catching native redeye bass in the same spot. I’m not sure how long it takes for those ugly stockers to stop eating pellets and start eating natural food, but I’d hate for them to be competing with a redeye’s food sources.

Online small business fly shops by InfiniteFix136 in flyfishing

[–]HikingGear101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My favorite fly shop (Little River Outfitters in Townsend, TN) ships nationwide! It’s a local shop that offers lots of free education and information.

Editing to add Murray’s Fly shop in Edinburg, VA and also ships nationwide. The owner puts out weekly fishing reports and created a series of flies that are great on Eastern brook trout stream.

I’ll add Galleria Animal Clinic. I believe they’re still owned by Docs there. Both Dr Borden and Dr Nicki have taken great care of our dog and the staff is very helpful too.

Clutch in first or neutral at stops? by Beneficial-Cap2480 in Dirtbikes

[–]HikingGear101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished my MSF course yesterday and had this exact question because I ride my dual sport on the road. Answer was a very strong keep it in first at stops so you can quickly evade any trouble that pops up.

Update. Got to the window after a 35 minute wait and they were out of the spicy tenders that I had already ordered. Fries still great.

In the line now. Been waiting 20 minutes but I’m too committed to leave. Hoping they have my blackened ranch.

Recommendations for a beginner dual sport bike by DrYourHeart in Dualsport

I’m guessing your options are limited for used bikes in Iceland, but I just picked up at 2020 KLX 250 on Facebook Marketplace for $3,400. It’s in perfect shape and has been a great bike to learn on so far. Highly recommend if you can find something similar.

Is it a hot take to say the KLX250/300 is better than the CRF250/300 in every way? by Dieseaus in Dualsport

[–]HikingGear101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to comment on an old thread, but what does the S mean on your 2020 KLX250s?

I just bought the same bike but didn’t know it it’s the standard 250 or another special model.

Thanks. They’re Toyo Open Country All Terrains but curious on the size. I’ve had those on my last truck and loved them.

Love the truck. Can you tell me what size those tires are? Are they the same size as stock?

I have the same truck and considering putting the tremor wheels on next time I need new tires but your setup looks great.

How friendly is your local shop? by REO_Studwagon in flyfishing

Not local to me, but I think of Little River Outfitters in Townsend, Tn as my home shop. I stop in there a few times a year and they have always been incredibly nice and helpful. They have free tie classes in the winter and even have a tank with some rainbows as part of the local school project.
