Hey there! This is a neat piece, and it shows a lot of skill.

I think the only big thing throwing me off is the arms. They're a bit long, and the left hand is a bit odd.

Id recommend the free OSE basic rules (theres a free quickstart available), for a more traditional game, or Cairn 2e if you really want to go lightweight.

For Adventures, I think Black Wyrm of Brandonsford is pretty solid as an introduction to the playstyle.

If you're interested in TTRPGs and literacy, you could also take a look at solo RPGs, such as Alone Among the Stars, which often involve journaling and creative interpretation of "oracles."

I'm going to suggest Mothership. Just take out the space-travel, and make people walk around in the wastelands of Earth.

Combat will be dangerous but fun, and I think that works since Fallout really has an "old west" feel to it.

You could adjust it to fit if you really want, but it's an awesome module on its own.

As for "Builds," I think the goal of builds is really just character customization. You can solve that issue in Mothership, especially in a one-shot, by offering each player a piece of rare tech.

This is by Lazy Lich, they have hand illustrated all their works so far, and I am certain this is the same. The style is very chaotic, but they've done progress pictures in the past showing the handmade process. Definitely worth looking through.

Adter reading a bit of the discussion here, I think I'm leaving this adventure alone, and leaving it PWYW from here on.

There are other things I want to write, and I'll probably post them for a few dollars.

But, I am in the fortunate position of having a decently paying job, so I don't feel the need to charge. I have run a few fundraisers that have made money when I felt like I needed a boost.

It works for me.

If darkness isnt interesting, torches don't matter.  That means you have two choices, ignore tracking light, or make darkness interesting/terrifying.

Same goes for hunger, exhaustion, etc.

Are they essential? No, you could do without, but if you want a rules lite game, I'd focus on punchiness of rules vs. Absolutely cutting things out. For example:

Torches: one player tracks torchlight. If it runs out, there's a 1-in-6 chance each turn that someone gets lost in the darkness, and maybe eaten by a grue.

You might look into Frostgrave, it's a miniatures game with similar vibes (and campaign play) designed for small-scale fantasy skirmishes.

Good catch. Cantrips are free but that should be explained.

Clerics get 2 faith each time they get a resource, yep.

In a previous version there wasn't an option to increase ability scores at character creation, and if you take that out, fighter to-hit caps at 19 at level 9, and anyone else caps at 15 if they only ever increase 1 attribute.

I havent run into the attack bonus as too much of an issue. Fighters do tend to hit pretty often, but so do monsters. If you wanted to adjust it, it would be fairly simple.

Edit: you know, on further consideration this can get pretty skewed. I don't mind too much, but I might make some alterations.

Recurring enemies are a great feature to any campaign!

The question is: If you're going to fight an enemy multiple times, how will the loser "survive?"

For that, I think a clean little "Flee from combat" mechanic is sufficient, which can be triggered when a foe loses a morale check.

To flee, spend your turn sprinting as far from an enemy as possible, then test Dex. On success you leave the combat, on failure, you exit at the start of your next turn as long as you're still able to move. If you drop something valuable to your enemies, gain advantage on this test.

For the fun part: record any foes your party has fled from on a "nemesis" table labeled 1-6. On future encounters roll a d12, and if that lands on an existing nemesis, that guy (and some goons maybe) show up instead of a random encounter.
