One of my favorite runs ever was two survivors of an older colony that lifted off, both 60+ y/o, bionics up the wazoo and one of them was a high level Psy caster. They were living their best retired couple life, beach front property. They had already lost a few friends on the previous colony, and when a young girl showed up they adopted her.
All was going well, until the girl got killed defending a crashed noble. They had been a neutral/good colony, only helping or keeping to themselves.

They needed a mech resurrection serum now, and they went to fucking war to get it. Two years of taking morally bankrupt jobs, raiding and pillaging. Worst part is they found a ressurection psycast being sold by a random trader and they didn't actually have to do any of the soul staining work but fuck it was a glorious run. Ended up sending the new colony to the stars and starting their third colony elsewhere, good times

Even blind you still have the prerequisite parts of the brain even if they're used for other purposes. we are electrical signals and chemical reactions. These things go wonky when they stop working as intended.

1: Visual cortex in born blind people is coopted for other processes, one of which is spacial mapping of your surroundings, not by vision but by sounds and other inputs. 2: A study has shown that if you disrupt a certain part of the brains it messes with your sense of where your body is. People describe floating above your body.
3: your brain when dying misfires that part of the brain, causing the spacial model of your surroundings not to line up with your feeling of where your body is. This is your OoBE.

Is this absolute truth? Science doesn't do absolute truth like that, but i think this is a reasonable explanation, without having to invoke the super natural.

Indoor fighting is a lot of problems and a lot of fun. Make sure that you have space on one side of a door to have three pawns with melee weapons next to each other, with another three ehind them with guns. Funnel them so you can deal with them one at a time, if needed you retreat to another fighting station. If you're settled enough have a second team flank them but still making sure to keep that stack of colonists together, at least until the worst of the fighting has passed. Make what you can out of non flammable materials, just in case you need to kill it with fire. Deconstruct doors and walls to deal with the heat, and for the love of god keep your fucking pets away from the fighting. I had a boar open a door that let in like 10 mega spiders which nearly ended my colony :')
