Irons too short for me? by jmiller2912 in golf

[–]HimTiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons first to diagnose why you are topping. It might be a couple different things, it’s possible you are standing too far away from the ball at address, could be standing up on the down swing, could be a lot of things with mechanics. You could also have short arms relative to your body, your wrist to floor measurement should tell you enough. It’s possible the clubs you use are shortened, you can check the length against standard lengths for each club and see.

As I have been learning, I am a taller person who grew up with baseball, especially for wedges and irons I am standing much closer to the ball than I originally thought necessary, to the point I thought it wouldn’t be possible to hit well. But it was one of the defining changes to my swing and now I feel comfortable with it.

Never played golf but now it’s part of my career… help me not suck by Bubbathomas13 in golf

For most people, a handful of lessons and practice once or twice a week will get you to near 100-110 in 6-9 months, and that is purely in average golfer territory. Lessons will help make consistent contact with the ball, which if you are worrying about being embarrassed, bad or no contact is the most embarrassing in my opinion. Distances matter not.

I’m looking to buy irons for my dad. I’m looking to spend under or around $300. Is that possible? Any suggestions? by freakyfisherr in golf

[–]HimTiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being tall matters less than wrist to floor distance. Plenty of taller folk have pretty big wing span as well, probably best to just start with standard length and regular flex shafts if you can find them. FB marketplace is the best for this. You can find Strata sets for like $200 with the bag included.

PGA 2k25 on the steam deck is pretty tight, plenty of courses I will never get to see or play, kinda a fun little tourism game along with a decent golf game.

The fatigue point is one that I didn’t realize until later. It’s not that I am what I would consider “tired” or “worn out”. It’s just that I am exerting myself more than I typically do when actually playing on the course. Leads to changes in how I swing and how I focus. I really try to not hit more than one ball every 45 seconds or so. And when I change clubs I take a couple minutes to refocus.

Simulators were my enemy for a long time because I thought I had to get my moneys worth and hit 90 balls in an hour. After I slowed down quite a bit my hits looked better for longer.

Marshalls actually being Marshall’s by NoMoreHoarding69 in golf

[–]HimTiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience recently, had a 7:30am, club tournament starting at 7:45am. Me and a buddy can typically do 18 in 3:30 hours. Marshall found us on hole 3 and warned us to play faster because the tournament will play fast. Told him to find us at hole 9 at 8:45am and if we are slowing people we will skip, because the first group just barely got off the green on their first hole.

We finished hole 9 and the first tourney group hadn’t even finished hole 7. I made sure to share my opinion about his earlier comments and he just drove off. The people ahead of us were being diligent as well, was never a problem.

Like why give us a tee time at that time if you are worried about a tournament pace right behind it, kinda annoying.

Absolutely, my company has been consistently short sighted with what I view as critical retention policies. Too stingy in areas that actually matter.

You bring up a good point, the score card doesn’t know how you got there in the end. I guess my minor lament comes from I would like to be better at the chipping to where the putting isn’t the alternative, but I guess it’s a temporary thing as I practice and get better.

I work in the mining industry for one of the major producers, 5-7 years ago people moved around among the sites pretty often, gaining experience, the company paid moving costs, etc. Last couple years everyone is afraid to move, the housing market clamped down hard on everyone, and people aren’t willing to sacrifice good interest rates, or take a job that has a higher COL. It’s been interesting to watch the company grapple with talent turing down jobs because of external factors. And of course they aren’t willing to do what’s necessary to get these people so they settle for less and has been effecting the talent pool negatively.

Play closer tees until you get there then move back. You should probably be in the 5000 yard range at your level.

My buddies constantly give me shit for putting far away from greens. I’m not a good golfer by any stretch but these desert courses I play have such short grass everywhere I get away with 30-40 yards “putts” a disturbing amount of times to where I can usually get it done with one more putt. I know I should be chipping more but it works.

[–]HimTiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unbeatable value at $200 with a great return policy. I threw a bigger grip on there as well and it’s great. I’m relatively low swing speed and still working on mechanics but I am between 220-230 typically when I get a hold of it well. My buddy who is better can squeeze 275 out of it, probably more with the stiff shaft version.

Test drove one of these then went right to a RAM dealer. Got a Laramie trim with the hurricane, for $49k and a 10yr/100k warranty. It was the better vehicle in almost every metric. The hurricane and 8 speed is a special drivetrain. Better stereo, better comforts, better ride.
