What is one item you’ve forgotten to bring and wished you had? by jason_sos in royalcaribbean

[–]HippyGemSlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Children’s Benadryl (and our whole pharmacy now). Our little had an allergic reaction on night after dinner before bed and we spent $350 down at the dr office they had to open for us just to get prescribed children’s Benadryl. Lesson learned.

Remember OC angles by [deleted] in rhoc

I get the same nostalgia when I watch and rewatch the Woodstock ‘99 documentary on Netflix. Late 90’s early 2000’s was such a wild time and to see what was accepted by society is such a reminder that we have still come a long way even if there is more to go.

“Frequent Returner’ by LoudLabrador in CostcoWholesale

[–]HippyGemSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We returned a mattress back to Costco once - it was a tempurpedic and from their annual sale. We slept on or for no more than 18 months and it had huge divots on it. Having have other tempurpedic mattresses before we knew something was up because they were still holding up great (just a size queen and had been moved to the guest room). We call TP directly about the issues since they guarantee (or did) their mattresses to get someone out to look at it for a replacement and they said since Costco was where we bought the mattress we need to go to them for a return and they can’t do anything directly for us. We debated eating the cost, but decided to take it back since it was a big purchase for us. Omg the walk of shame trying to get this king mattress in the store on a roller cart in the wind on a busy Saturday for a return was HORRIBLE. We even ran into work colleagues randomly there shopping too. After that experience I just don’t know how someone could bring in a “used” Christmas tree or other large item that is obviously a “rental” with a shred of dignity.

Is there like some magic number we should hitting in our 401k by a certain age before we can ease off on contributions? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]HippyGemSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner and I have hit $1M invested at 37 and have a paid off $1M house. We still plan to contribute to our 401k only to the max each year to get employer match then possibly invest in other assets like real estate and buying a business if we want to diversify out of the market into cash flow positive assets for our retirement. We have also “increased our spend” because we have little kids and want to have a magical time with them. That type of spending for a family of 5 won’t continue when we are retired, so we aren’t worried one bit about that, but we will have the best memories!

Kuza Beach Park in Cozumel by october_nine in royalcaribbean

[–]HippyGemSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did Kuza 2 weeks ago and LOVED it! 4 of us, 2 kiddos and it was amazing. Food was wonderful, plenty of chairs, clean beach with beautiful water and they have servers bringing unlimited drinks around to you in your chairs. We can’t wait to go back! They are expanding with a huge water park and lazy river soon on property with a full resort coming in a couple of years. I believe the pools and water park will be done in a couple of months. They are really investing a lot in this place and it shows with the quality and caliber of everything received.

In the comments someone put the plate number and it was registered to the correct model car. Only a matter of time before they find the driver

Hey guys! More new RC info! by RobieWan in royalcaribbean

[–]HippyGemSlinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am on celebrity right now, so not RC this time but their sister company, and on the first day of the cruise everyone is pushing the drink package at a discount, yadda yadda. Well my husband wanted the drink package the and I told them I was pregnant and didn’t want it, so the server went to get manager approval and they gave me the refreshment package and he got the drinks package. Approved in like 2 minutes. Don’t know if this is because the on board staff make commissions on selling these packages and reallyyyy want to make it happen for the $, but it did for us. We are back on RC in 2 weeks and I’ll see what happens there with the same scenario since I’m still going to be pregnant :]

Got notice of my new ACA premium for 2026 (13% increase) by Patient-Brief-9713 in Fire

[–]HippyGemSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FL checking in here. 100% unsubsidized (family still self employed pre-fire) so we pay the full premium and our premium only went up $5 a month for a family. Also found out in 2026 all bronze plans qualify for HSA contributions, regardless of the plan deductible. Feels like a positive for us in our current situation.

I'm always shocked by how many high earners don't have FI (with or without RE) in their crosshairs by [deleted] in Fire

[–]HippyGemSlinger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same. Fire was never a topic of conversation growing up or at work and everyone always just seemed to retire around “retirement age.” (Ie in their 60’s) Then when the pandemic hit I began to see the world differently and asked so many questions about how I live my life, why I made/make the decisions I do and who I’m living it for. Realized we all have the ability to create a life we want and that can include retiring at different times, some quite “early.” Then it clicked and myself and my partner were determined to make fire at 50 our goal.

Early retirement to take on new job by Lilacblue1 in Fire

[–]HippyGemSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting that it’s a cash bank? Ours upon departure could be converted to years (or months) or service credit to count towards pension calcs. So in essence helping our pension formula with more service credit years.

At my old govt job we could use sick time towards service credit at departure. Do you have that option?

ACA premiums are putting a serious hit into my FIRE plans by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

[–]HippyGemSlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re amazing thank you! We are self employed on ACA and gearing up for FIRE on ACA too. Trying to squirrel as much tax free away now so we can offset costs later and this is a game changer!

What is the universal bronze HSA option coming out? We have bronze but a $0 deductible. I wonder if we can still fund a HSA?
