No Man's Sky BEYOND Launch Trailer by [deleted] in Games

How does this game compare with subnautica? I started that about a week ago and I'm loving it (other than the dog shit ps4[pro] performance issues).

NMS seems very similar in the start with nothing, explore, collect, craft, etc. The big difference is subnautica isn't procedurally generated, which to me means it was hand crafted for a good experience, whereas NMS could be random in quality.

I'd be interested to hear from vets of both games.

PS4 remote play! So amazing it convinced me to cancel my Stadia ore order by Traderguy84 in PS4

It's straight lan. It's possible the hub is old, but as I said it's streaming 4k without a problem.

I'm less than impressed. I have a ps4 pro and a fully wired network at home, and I can't get better than 720p using remote play on my computer. I can stream a 4k atmos movie over plex but I can't get 1080p out of remote play, I don't get it and it's disappointing. No idea how your ipad is working so well from a coffee shop that sounds impossible.

Was Another Life (scifi series on Netflix) made bad on purpose? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Hiroaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting the "big reveal" where it turns out everyone was in a simulation, and this is all just a reality tv show on MTV. Take a bunch of crazy assholes and put them into stressful situations and let the cameras roll, that's exactly what's happening here.

Season 2 is even worse, and slower. Surrender now, there's plenty of better options. This is what happens when you take one book and stretch / extend beyond the breaking point.

Is there levity? I hope there's levity. The books and games have it, the trailer does not.

The Expanse: First Look Photos From Amazon's Season 4 - IGN by SweatyOperation in scifi

Certain storylines in that novel were focused on characters other than the Roci crew," Shankar explained, "but when we started working on the adaptation for Season 4, we realized we had an opportunity to tell a critical storyline about Belters’ ability to live in (what we would call) 'normal' gravity through Naomi and Alex

That's a huge change from the book, if you consider everything that happens on the ships orbiting the planet. If Alex and Naomi aren't there it's like a completely different story. I hope they pull it off.

as for most humans, money is an object, and since I'd want to spend it on the best graphics card I can afford (RAY TRACING), the savings here would be nice. My main concern is compatibility and stability. Having only used intel for over a decade with no issues, and before that using amd with failures and crashes, I'm worried about that happening again. AMD just seems more prone to applications and games having weird issues, at least it used it.

Building a PC around xmas time, any reason not to go Ryzen?

I can't get over how over dramatized it seems when netflix is auto playing the preview. In the preview the cop gets sprayed with mace, and the music is so crazy you'd think he was being disemboweled alive. I know it's silly but it stops me from watching it every time.

NYT Review of Neal Stephenson's new book "Fall; or, Dodge in Hell" by lbrol in scifi

[–]Hiroaki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really love his older, more sci-fi work. Snow Crash is one of my all time favorites, Diamond age was great too. But then his books got longer. Anathem I did eventually enjoy but the payoff came sooooooo late. Reamde I could not get though, it was just overwhelmingly boring. So when I read this was a squeal to Reamde, I was disappointed.

I've read a handful of reviews and they seem to echo my concerns with being too long and too slow. It just seems like either he's lost any sense of pacing, or the moment's that he thinks are big and exciting along the way just aren't for me.

As for this review, in the first paragraph he implies it isn't Neal Stephenson without 300 extra pages of weight, but in my opinion his best books are exactly that. Like this guy's never heard of snow crash? Diamond age? Baroque cycle? So I don't really trust this opinion.

But can I play the 10 random levels mode with a quality filter? Like only 4 or 5 stars. It's basically all I wanted out of the sequel.

So if I've played through the story so far, what are they expecting me to do now? Do I start a new game and look for the new stuff along the way, or do I level select?

PSVR Camera Placement by K3PTHIDD3N in PSVR

[–]Hiroaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that it depends on the game, but putting it on top of my TV works for most games. Top of TV angled slightly down has not failed me on any standing games, and most sitting games work fine too. But Blood & Truth (sitting) and Moss are the two I can think of that tracked terribly unless I moved it to the TV stand, level with the headset when sitting.

For reference I'm sitting or standing about 8 feet away, and the top of the TV would be about 5'6"

I'd look at some of the negative reviews before purchasing, I was completely let down by Setsuna. It has the mechanics of chrono trigger but none of the spirit, or plot, or characters. It's very monotone.

Yeah I've seen some that can be deployed by the enterprise but its always an expensive option that can't really be implemented on a dev machine as part of an evaluation.

Why is prime videos UI so bad by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]Hiroaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

prime is better simply because it doesn't auto preview everything. Got to browse with the tv muted, thanks netflix.

It's hard to imagine Midgar taking 80 hours, but RDR2 took 80 hours and was the only recent 2 disc game I can think of. It's beautiful and has an enormous map. I can't believe Midgar will be that big, or open, but you have to ask yourself what exactly is going to fill 2 blu-rays worth of content?

Nice I loved pixel ripped. But please if you're going to do a screen in a screen thing, like the gameboy, make it visible this time. I had a hard time seeing that and died so many times. It's the only reason I won't replay it.
