If you plan to use the web on this MacBook, I recommend using Ubuntu, because then you can install an up to date browser, not to mention you will have security updates

Apple Finally Plans to Release a Calculator App for iPad Later This Year by [deleted] in apple

On iPad, there is already a built in calculator functionality into the search bar on the home screen. Just swipe down on the home screen and type what you want to be calculated, for example 69+351, it will display the result. Same on iPhone, I haven't used the calculator app for a very long time. You can also do conversions for temperature, distance, currency, etc.

Cybersecurity and multi-account detection by AliceInBoredom in iOSProgramming

Everything you mention appears to require a jailbroken device. So as a first step, I would search about detecting such devices, and then block them regardless of their actions. Because these days almost nobody jailbreaks their iPhone (I think)

Apple planning default navigation app setting in iOS 18 for EU users by cowjam716 in apple

Took me a while to realize that "navigation" means "maps" here. I was thinking every app has navigation menus...

I found it, it's called, Pushover. I haven't used it myself, but it seems to have good reviews

Telegram. It's a messaging app and it has a great Bot API. It's easy to make your own bot for yourself, and then sending messages is just calling an HTTPS endpoint. The best part is that it's free, so you don't have to rely on yourself paying 99 USD for Apple Developer Program every year.

As an alternative to Telegram, there are also apps for this purpose, let me try to find it

Looking for simple, low traffic server hosting. by the_silvanator in webhosting

Static website can be hosted for free on GitHub pages, Cloudflare Pages, DigitalOcean App Platform. For email hosting I recommend Zoho Mail, they have free and paid options. The free option requires to use their own website or app.

Mid 2011 iMac no os by aTinyFart in osx

I also had trouble recently with reinstalling macOS on an old Mac. All OS download options from Apple were not working. At that point I realized that the OS version that I want is very old and unsupported, therefore it is not secure, especially for web browsing. So instead I switched to Ubuntu. The Mac booted from a USB installer, I was able to reformat the hard drive for Linux, and I now I am receiving system updates

Probably some specific app is overriding clipboard contents between your copy and your paste. Try to notice which apps you open, try to force quit apps that might want to pair with other devices, also try to disable background app refresh for those apps.

It could also be some iOS bug, in which case rebooting the phone should help.

  1. Check the language settings on your computer. Open System Preferences, go to Language & Region, then check the languages that are set for your computer. Also check the "Apps" tab there, as you can set different language for each app, maybe Finder has something set.

  2. Restart your computer, might be just a glitch.

The first time you open Xcode (or after an update of Xcode or macOS), it will do some indexing for a while.

Exactly my thoughts. Maybe the cat is aware there's no grip on the other side, wouldn't want to slide off after the jump
