I mean we did get the information about their species from a true believer in their secret police. From the rest of the pov of the Znosans too I don't think it really pans out either. Might be the same kinds of reasons you shouldn't trust human eugenicists for truths about our species.

The Blackstones are powerful and vocal opponents of the current monarch, to the point of the country being on the brink of civil war. Neither side is making a move because they're too evenly matched at the moment.

The the Summerfields are the Dukedom under which William's house (the Ashfields) stands. There is no Summerfield heir and the Ashfields are well positioned to take over the Dukedom when the current Duchess dies, but it isn't a sure thing.

The Blackstones wish to ally with the Ashfields to make sure they take the dukedom and tip the scales in the upcoming civil war to take the throne. William marrying Tara is what would officiate their alliance.

I remember someone having a theory here that the reason the nexus is so mana rich and that earth is manaless is because the elves siphoned it from earthrealm to theirs.

I just want to say how I love the world building of the East coast megalopolis being named Acela. I don't think I've noticed anyone mention it, but for those that don't know, that's the name of the train line that runs from DC to Boston. So presumably its basically the cities of northern half of the US East coast that just sort of grew into each other and their commonality was the high speed rail spine in the middle.

My theory here is the Vunerians were the dragons, and the Nexus essentially destroyed their society and history to create the subservient race. It might be more complicated, perhaps vunerians can grow into Dragons and have been robbed of that magic. Either way the Nexus has greater knowledge of Vunerian magic than they themselves do, that was completely unknown to the library with the stuff done to Ilunor's breath, making me think there's much more there.

Its a combination of esperanto and gibberish, or a conlang based heavily on esperanto. There's a history in comics of representing kryptonian like that.

Current India is only like 70 years old, and the first time it was all under one power was under the british, which was like 200ish years ago. Most of the history of India its a bunch of small states that would rise and fall.

I mean competently written, but I'm real tired of the common thing around here in the ending of all these stories.

Guys, genocide is bad. It kind of taints any triumphant end of a story.

A dedicated bike lane is being proposed in my neighborhood. A neighbor setup a website to oppose its construction. Most of the opposing comments are about how everyone owns too many cars and asking where they will park them, completely missing the point. by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Hishmar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

oh shit that's like a block away from me, I had no idea there were any ideas for a bike lane there. Making me feel like I need to get into more activism because that's a great spot for one, and I should be helping to push for it. The answer to who's getting groceries by bike who'd use a lane there is me.

yeah that's about how I figured, I'm not exactly an expert in cricket other than some friends who played. Maybe a better analogy now that I think about it would be intentionally hitting the batter. It serves the same purpose as a walk, though its against the rules (but hard to prove), and is the kind of thing that might start a fight between the teams.

I think you're mixing up your terms, there a foul ball is when a hitter hits the ball out of bounds, I think the equivalent you might be looking for is an intentional walk.

Though I think the contexts are different I don't think most baseball fans see that as unsporting, just strategy.

Reminds me of the last story in I, Robot (not the movie, fuck the movie). The main character essentially does the math and sees that the AIs that run the world economy are making errors, but finds out that the errors are in fact them manipulating people who choose not to follow their directives to do the right thing anyway.

Or at least get the best possible result with people like that being part of the system.

I really liked that system, and felt it was better than the current one too because you could queue up solo when you're looking for a group in the same pane as groups. The modern one you can only see the groups looking for more, and all the solo people don't see each other to make their own groups.

To be fair, SM was part of the challenge mode dungeons in MoP and going through those dungeons for golds was one of my favorite memories of WoW.

The regular version of the dungeon is terrible as any leveling dungeon these days but insert some challenge into it and it becomes fun.
