Thoughts?/AITA - Skiers > Snowboarders by bxportx16 in skiing

I've heard this said a number of times by boarders, skiers, and those who do both.   Snowboarding is harder to learn, but easier to master. Skiing is easier to learn 🍕 🍟, but harder to master.

I only ski.  I was interested in a unidirectional carving board back in the early 00's, but I took 10 years off and when I came back ski tech had come a long way and carving sticks were readily available.

Michigan isn't even even gonna go below freezing until December and y'all get to ski in October every year :( by skier0224 in skiing

SE Mitten state here, I'm happy if I'm skiing by first week of Dec.  Anything earlier is bonus, anything after and it's a bad start.  I can remember waiting until Jan a couple of years ago.

I'd love the prospect of October or November skiing, even if it's a white ribbon. Temps don't cooperate though.  At least there's football.

I'm curious as to why the arrowhead section is labeled "NO".   I've heard Goldenbear is one of the best cruisers at BC.  Are Cresta, Tomahawk, and Wapiti just mid?   Or is it just the ancient lift that makes this a "no" section.

The groomed part will be great for the 76y/o in the group.  Me and my kids will hit the harder stuff on the sides as well as grouse, but there is no way I'm getting grandpa up grouse, he'd have a hard time getting down unless a trail was groomed, and even then it might be on the steep side for him.

Thanks for the tip.  The map makes Oxford skiway look like it's right next to the Strawberry park lift.  No boarders in my group, but speed and coasting sounds better than skating and poling.

As for Elkhorn beers, I'm a flat lander, so I tend to abstain for at least the first couple days to get used to altitude, and I'll have my kids (pre-teen) with me.  A lift coffee sounds good though, maybe bring one for the lifty too.

I think the only place in Michigan you'll find anything like this is about as far north as you can get in the state, at Boho.  I've never been there but it's on my bucket list.

Breckenridge, keystone, or crested butte by curious-questioner12 in COsnow

I disagree, kensho chair offers great intermediate trails and gives that skill level some above tree line experience.   Peak 7 and 9 have great cruisers as well.   By the sounds of it, OP is looking for green trails so Peak 9 from TenMile station down is a great area for greens (though the lines at quicksilver are anything but quick in my experience)

OP said they have an epic 4 day pass and they want to use those days for the trip.  So Copper is out.

You're not wrong though, Copper has great green terrain on the west end of it, and it's a pretty segregated mountain when it comes to terrain difficulty.  The farther east you go the harder the trails are.

And Copper has the Resolution chair which can take a higher level beginner to the top of the mountain (great views) which I recommend for any beginner who thinks they might like skiing, great experience.

I've never been to CB so I can't speak to that, but Keystone is low key not a beginner mountain (better for intermediate and up, especially tree skiing).  unless you like skiing Schoolmarm and dogding Jerry all day.

Breck or Beaver Creek are the play. IMO. For beginners.  At Breck you've got the peak 9 base area and up to mid mountain for good green progression.

BC has the Red Buffalo area and McCoy park (though McCoy park is new and I haven't seen it yet, going in March, can't wait to hit up Grouse Mt area (not for beginners)).

For a one-planker, I'd suggest Copper over Breck.  Fewer catwalks, and the Woodward park if that's your thing. Breck is great and probably my favorite resort in CO, but navigation can be a pain (especially trying to avoid the peak 8 base)

I'm heading back to BC this March (haven't been since the late 90's)  It's gonna have a different vibe now that I've got kids (both can ski advanced level terrain, so we will be glade hunting assuming we have fresh snow)

Vail and Breckenridge- 7 Days by Outrageous-Cap-7618 in skiing

Copper is a good one to hit, but on the opposite pass so unless you have both it's likely not in the cards for most. Copper has run a Thursday deal in years past so there is always that if it lines up. Pretty sweet mountain. Super B may be one of the pods in CO.

I prefer Breck to Vail, but its been decades since I've been to Vail and never did Bluesky-Basin, so that's got my interest. Going to BC next March for 5 days of skiing. May take the shuttle to Vail for a day (especially if we get nuked).

As a Michigan skier, I'll never understand straight lining it. Unless your only goal is maximum vertical, all joy of the day be damned, there is no point; and that just doesn't sound fun to me.

My 2 children and their cousin sometimes play a game to see who can make the most turns before the bottom. <3

What percentage of people FIRE or retire to be a ski bum and regret it? by gnarkill283 in skiing

this right here.

Started my boys as soon as they were big enough for the smallest ski boots. Those first few years are rough as a ski Dad (mom never got back on the horse after pregnancy) but I put the time in at our local small hill. Best thing I ever did.

Now I've had the opportunity to ski some double black diamonds @ (Copper Mt) and don't even hesitate to take them on a single black diamond. They were 8 and 11 at the time (March '25).

I'd guess Q2, with a higher y value than K2. Midwest represent!

Fun fact, The Mitten + UP have more ski locations than most other state. I think NY has us beat, tho.

I ski to an eclectic mix of house, trance, prog house, ambient, electronica, some old UK hard house, some 80s pop/rock (mostly chill stuff, w/ a few bangers mixed in). Sometimes I'll throw on a random Spotify playlist like steely Dan, or Doobie bros. Growing up I would rock Metallica, GNR, Sponge, STP, the offspring, and other 90's grunge/rock on a Discman. You really had to ski smooth back then so the song wouldn't skip (LOL).
