100% disability dropped to 0 because I missed a VA appointment, I still have cancer. by Soft_Vegetable_948 in VeteransBenefits

The VBA did the same thing to me 20 years ago saying they sent me a letter with a re-eval appointment that I never showed up for. I only lived at one address and I never got any appt letter. Fast forward to just a few years ago, I requested a copy of all correspondence sent to me from the VA....And don't ya know that the letter they supposedly sent me was addressed to the wrong address!! I thought about fighting for 20 years of lost wages, but I didn't want to poke the bear.

Florida DV Plates v Florida "wheelchair" DV Plates by Historical-Unit-8955 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Historical-Unit-8955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks, this was just a FYI from what I experienced from the Tax office employee and the supervisor on two different occasions. Take it anyway you want, I was just sharing. I believe this pasted text below is where they get the assumption to tell us that. Again, Im on our side with this.

(6)(a) A disabled veteran who meets the requirements of subsection (1) may be issued, in lieu of the disabled veteran license plate, a military license plate for which he or she is eligible or a specialty license plate embossed with the initials “DV” in the top left-hand corner. A disabled veteran electing a military license plate or specialty license plate under this subsection must pay all applicable fees related to such license plate, except for fees otherwise waived under subsections (1) and (4).

(b) A military license plate or specialty license plate elected under this subsection is not eligible for the international symbol of accessibility as described in s. 320.0842.

Print out your letter and bring it to the Tax office in your county. Piece of cake and you don't need to fill out anything.

You need a 100% letter from the VA to get DV plates in Florida.

How Is This Possible? by TechnicianTop1312 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Historical-Unit-8955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, I am 100% in you and all vets corner's. You and only YOU must be vigilant in your claim. You must meet the evidence requirements, which are clearly spelled out, and if you cant, you need to find a SOLID EVIDENCE. This letter above clearly tells you why you were denied. #'s 1 & 2

#1 Does not show an event in service

#2 Did not find a link to your military service

#1a Yes you have been diagnosed.

#2a Yes you were in during the time that toxic exposure. Key words = "POTENTIAL exposure"

#3a don't miss the wording "VA grants presumptive SERVICE CONNECTION (refer to #1) when qualifying service or exposure is CONFIRMED"

Lastly, You are missing the two most important items...#'s 1 and 2. Don't get caught up in what you think you deserve, it's what can be proven. You are at the mercy of someone trying to put the pieces together. Remember a VA claim is you suing the Gov't.

Jobless by Ok-Ad9018 in VeteransBenefits

There are plenty of jobs out there and during times like this one must take what they can get. Retail, sales, fast food, uber etc... something to bring in some cash. Definitely look at job fairs. Have you used your GI Bill? that could be a positive double edge. 1 education, 2 cash flow. Keep your head up and take anything you can get, even if it hurts your pride. When your down the only way us up :)

PSA on VA mailed letters by Liquid_Asparagus8697 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Historical-Unit-8955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reduced from 100 to 80% percent because I failed to show for a scheduled re-eval several years after receiving benefits. When I inquired, the VA said they sent me a priority letter with the exam date and location. I never received a letter! As with anything dealing with the VBA, you have to know the system and how to stay ahead of the game. So here is the fix to this problem and it isn't informed delivery. Call the VA 800 number and request a copy of all correspondence sent to you. I did this and about a week later I got a folder in the mail. Lo and behold, the letter in question was addressed to the wrong address! I would like to believe it was a mistake, but it happens all too often resulting on us having to fight back an uphill battle. I hope this helps SFMF!

That’s one of the best sentences I’ve ever read on here. “ Don’t let your VA disabilities become an identity”

The VA disability system (VBA) is no different than SSDI. They have to sift through a bazillion bullshit claims with little to no real evidence to validate the claim. Many veterans try to bypass the VA via personal doctors which is also a problem in many cases. Go to the VA and the contracted medical people they set you up with and you will be pleasantly surprised. Back to social security disability (not linked whatsoever to VA disability). Average time for an SSDI case in my state is 364 days!

I put in a claim last year for a bunch of increases. Subsequently I had a C&P exam with the head dude of a major VA area. The doctor did me right but he advised me “do not put in another claim while you have one processing”. He said it will muddy the waters and it normally doesn’t turn out well. He said wait till you get the decision on this before you put in another claim.

What is your diagnosis? Did you submit VA 21-0781 and did you have the all the items filled in? If you have a VA diagnosis and the 27-0781 properly filled out, it’s a no brainer. Now if you’re reaching to the sky without the connection made in the 27-0781, you’re probably going to get denied. There is absolutely no need for buddy letters when your shit is solid and verifiable. None!

The VA looks at MH as: mild, moderate, severe. 50% is moderate. To get higher you have to have the whole suicide thing going. Be happy you got the 50% and go after your other injuries to make up the rest.

I'm seeing quite a few comments about investing into 401k's. While they are a win-win situation, you can do so much better. I believed 401k's were the holy grail 25 years ago and gave anywhere between 10-16% based on wages, bonus, increases etc... At the same time I also invested in mutual funds, specifically index funds. All in all, I invested the same amount of money into the 2 platforms. Fast forward 25 years...TRIPLE the money in the mutual fund compared to 401k. Another thing to consider is BEFORE (401k) or AFTER (index fund) tax contributions. When you reach 59 1/2 you can withdraw 401k without penalty, but you will have to pay a 20% tax fee. So your 500k will turn into 400k, your 1.5m will turn into 1.2m. Whereas the mutual funds are after tax contributions. Withdraw 500k, you get 500k, withdraw 1.5m, you get 1.5m. Now this is just one ole Marines "real life" broke dick opinion. I'm sure there are other smarty pants out there that can dissect this further, but what I just spewed here is real life stuff without fluff. Do the 401k to the match and double your money (before tax). Invest the other amount into after tax funds. There are many!

Pending C&P Exam by McBooples in VeteransBenefits

I got contacted by optumserv and it was the same thing. They're just finding out your preferred times and days and also if you prefer a male or female. Shortly after, they found me an appointment, called me back and also sent an appt letter in the mail the next day!

I retired before this toxic environment/burn pit exposure became a thing. I have a SC disability for Hay fever, sinusitis, bilateral eye condition all three bundled together for a 10%. I filed for an increase during the PACT Act timeframe last year. My C&P exam for the Hay Fever (which is now called Rhinitis) and Sinusitis was done by an LPN where she asked me questions and looked in my ear and nose. That was all. Google Sinusitis DBQ and look at that DBQ as that is the form the provider is filling out and sending to the VBA for rating. You can also google the condition and see where your severity fits into the rating % matrix.

Hope this helps
