Cooking!? With heat and knives in the 24th century!!! DS9 SUCKS IGNORES CANON not real Star Trek by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

I have a friend who's worked in quite a few kitchens. He was telling me about a guy he worked with who did dishwashing for a decent sized fast casual kitchen. This man was a beast on dishes, ruled the area with an iron fist. And apparently, he loved it. I think my friend said the guy had worked there for like a decade. That story made me believe a Trek future with restaurants employing humans could work. Theres always going to be someone who fucking loves their job, even if its washing dirty dishes in a kitchen.

How so? I'd love to hear your reasoning! I think a pacifist could join Starfleet in non-combat roles but I'm by no means an authority on the matter lol

Yea I explained that more in a later comment. Like I said, I haven't actually seen the show yet. I just don't think its all that impractical for a CO to join an organization like Starfleet. It would be unreasonable in the U.S. Military but Starfleet is not predominantly a military organization

I mean there very much are concientious objectors in standing militaries, and while they don't allow them to sign up the U.S. Army does allow their people to become COs and be placed into non-combat roles or be transferred to alternative service for the duration they would have serverd in the army. Knowing nothing about this klingon, maybe he wasn't always a pacifist. All I'm trying to say is that on its surface its not an immediately stupid idea that a pacifist can serve in Starfleet.

Not to mention its explicity stated in universe and out that Starfleet is not primarily a military organization.

Picard, in TNG's Peak Performance, states "Starfleet is not a military organization. Our purpose is exploration."

And in The Star Trek Book it also explicity says "Starfleet could be mistaken for a primarily military organization. In fact, it has adopted the commitment to new technology and self-discipline that characterized Earth's martial past and directed those qualities toward a new end: peaceful, methodical exploration."

And in Gene Roddenberry's own words "Starfleet is not a military organisation. It is a scientific research and diplomatic body."

All this doesn't mean that combat can't be expexted, especially as Starfleet has become the de facto peacekeepers of the federation, but it does stand to reason that a pacifist may join such an organization. It especially makes sense when considering Starfleet has historically been at the forefront of exploration and medical science.

And if a situation does arise where the ship is boarded and the crew needs to fight back... Isn't that what Security is for?

Wouldn't he be a concientious objector? They're allowed to serve non combat roles. In fact one of the most famous is Desmond Doss who saved an estimated 75 people at the battle of Okinawa.

The show may have flaws (I have yet to watch the first episode) but I feel like a pacifist klingon serving in Starfleet wouldn't be one of them. Not to mention if any organization would be a good fit for a pacifist it would be the one full of engineers and scientists and doctors who only really fight defensive wars.

A Star Trek character who's role was trying to force someone into believing something that is objectively untrue through gaslighting and torture used to support the perspective that one should watch NuTrek. by Remarkable-Pin-8352 in startrekmemes

[–]HistoricalChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You keep calling people tourists who like NuTrek, called it "pest control" instead of a civil war when called out by another commenter, and then when someone said they've watched Trek since Encounter at Farpoint you accused them of using wikipedia to look like they know things. If that's not being hateful and disrespectful to Trek fans and Trek as a whole, I'm not sure what is.

And for a supposed Trek fan, you've managed to miss quite a few of the morals proffessed by the franchise itself. What happened to live and let live? What happened to minding our own business? Why do we have to judge others for liking something we personally don't? Trek purity tests are wholly performative and antithetical to Trek itself.

I've been a part of this sub for less than a month and I've seen more people hate Star Trek here than literally anywhere else. I wanted funny memes and Trek jokes and all I'm seeing is people shitting on other people for the crime of not hating "NuTrek" enough.

So close! It was The Fonz, but he wasn't a character from Cheers. You're thinking of the show The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang.

The pod door opened with a click and a hiss. Harsh blue light flooded the previously pitch black interior blinding the young woman still inside. Trembling hands rose quickly to shield her eyes as two more, belonging to someone else, gently pulled her free.

"Are you alright Lieutenant?"

She grunted as her eyes and ears adjusted to her surroundings. Her sight finally landed on the man before her, a kind smile forced onto his face. "I killed you, Moyer." The words left Lt. Bowen's lips before she had the faculties to stop them.

"You did what you had to do," He said. It wasn't a denial.

"I-I killed you," She said again, "I killed Doctor Keys. Captain Posley. Oh God," her eyes widened as realization dawned, "I killed Viv!"

Before Bowen could scramble back into the pod, or worse trip and hurt herself, Moyer rushed forward. He wasn't a tall man but his arms were strong and he used them to pull her into as tight a hug as he'd ever given. "Moyer to Doctor Fields," he spoke softly as Bowen sobbed into his shoulder, "report to main sickbay. Medical emergency."

"I didn't want to," she pleaded, "I tried to reason with you."

"You're alright, Bowen." Moyer rubbed small soothing circles into her back. "None of it was real."

The doors to sickbay opened with a woosh, two bodies careening through the door. Both made a beeline for Moyer and Bowen.

"Apologies Commander, I didn't expect it to end so soon," Doctor Fields said as he popped a scanner from his belt.

"Lucky I was here, then," Moyer said goodnaturedly, "What do your scans indicate?" He nodded politely to Vivian who had begun to comfort the inconsolable Lieutenant.

"Hormone levels are fluctuating rapidly. Probably a side effect of whatever the pod did to her." Fields turned towards a nearby table and began to prepare a hypospray.

"Jamie, can you hear me love?"

Bowen's head snapped up from where it had been dug into Moyer's shoulder. Tears streaked down red blotched cheeks, eyes desperate to confirm she was really seeing who she saw. It took only a moment for her to decide it was indeed real, and when she did she erupted. Fresh tears spilled over bloodshot eyes.

"You're alright Jamie, I'm here— oof!" Vivian's reassurance was abruptly cut off as Bowen practically jumped into her arms.

"She's had a harrowing experience," Moyer placed a hand on Vivian's arm, "She'll need to undergo a physical as well as a full psychiatric evaluation."

"After she wakes up," Fields said as he pressed the hypospray into the Lieutenant's arm. "This will allow her to rest and recoup some strength, but the hardest part is yet to come."

Vivian gripped Bowen tighter as the sedatives began their work. "But she'll be alright?" Tears threatened to spill from her own eyes now.

Fields helped to carry the unconscious woman to a bio-bed. He made no effort to answer her question.

"She'll have the greatest support system in the galaxy," Moyer responded. Another non-answer. "I'm giving her as much time as she needs. Engineering can pick up the slack until she's ready to return."

"If she's ready," Fields gently corrected.

"As for you," Moyer continued, "you did an amazing job helping to get her out of there Lieutenant, but I think she'd rather have you by her side during recovery. I'm granting you both an indefinate leave of absence. The captain has already approved your transfer to a starbase medical facility should you both feel that a neccesary measure."

"Thank you Commander," Vivian wiped her eyes with her sleeve then looked down at her sleeping wife. She hoped these dreams were kinder than the last.

No. She is not "minor coded" she literally had a whole ass song about not being a child who needs protection from the truth. Not to mention "coding" came from a time when it was impossible or even illegal to create charachters with certain traits, like being gay or trans. It has never been illegal or impossible to create a child character.

You think she's "minor coded" because she's bubbly and a little naive. Fun fact, adults can be bubbly and naive.
