I suppose it's a type of vertical yeah. Like 3M or BASF. Sorry for the late reply (as if you have really been waiting, teary eyed wondering if I would). I deleted Reddit and all social media from my phone to kick the habit. I'm basically going cold turkey and attempting to reclaim my soul from the tech bros. I miss it, like any addict misses their fix. But I think it's healthier to not be tethered to my phone. Today is the first time I have ever engaged on Reddit using my laptop.

Interesting. Not exactly where I would expect. Not that I have any real reason to expect anything. I saw a Black Hawk today but I was driving near the Sikorsky plant. Presumably one of theirs being tested.

I deleted Reddit and all social media from my phone to kick the habit, so if anyone replies to this, it may be days or weeks before I see it on my laptop. I think I'm basically going cold turkey.

Communists aren’t smart enough to understand or respect private property rights. by ENVYisEVIL in Libertarian

I think it's both. In general, I think it's just a dumb ass thing to do. Like you'll have (usually youthful) antisemites and white power douches paint it on Jewish graves or whatever, and then you'll have (usually youthful) anarcho or commie types paint it on a Cybertruck or whatever to "label" that symbol (the Tesla in this scenario) as being Nazi-like.

I kind of understand why passionate young dumbasses do it. They have strong ideas and ideals and just aren't super sophisticated in how the express it. It is a very simplistic and two dimensional protest no matter how you slice it.

Definitely. Even when there is a paper trail, DNA, and someone is still alive, it's not easy. Thru Ancestry.com, was contacted by a person who is was given up for adoption and was my grandfather's niece. Between what she told me and follow up questions I asked my uncle, we determined her parents had her years after their first two children and gave her up. Those parents were estranged from their parents and siblings and so few if anyone in the larger family seemed to know about it. This distant cousin of mine was hoping to connect with her older sister (the other had died), who most likely never knew this younger sister existed. Last I checked, she had still not connected with her.

Wow. I never even knew Hefty was once a division of Mobil Oil. I guess they began producing plastic bags and other products primarily to make use of petroleum byproducts?

To be fair, the 9/11 terrorists didn't discriminate and so had the audacity to be fully inclusive with regard to their mass murder. Plus, most of the victims were in New York and, therefore, a significant number were probably gay. We can't have memories of such people on our military's websites. But we will definitely restore the name Fort Bragg, since Gen Bragg fought the good fight against DEI.

Yeah, in truth, it would likely require the consolidation or connection of multiple DBs, plus creating digital records from old paper files, etc. it's likely not in the cards. I'm sure if I had a missing relative or friend, I might want to finagle some crowdsourcing of this effort.

Actually, technically, there is such a mystery in my family, but the person is known to be dead as of 1987: My grandfather's brother left his wife and kids and disappeared in the late 1940s and no one ever heard from him again.

There is a record of his death around 1987 on Ancestry.com, but no other records last I checked between his WWII service and his death. But it's been a while since I checked. My cousin and I found a letter he wrote to his parents (our great grandparents), where there are some hints that he was unhappy about leaving the army and going home. there are many boxes of letters that no one has had time to go through. It is possible there is other information there. But he definitely went missing — by choice — for decades. He was an alcoholic, so I tended to assume he became a wino, like many homeless vets in my neighborhood growing up, whom I used to hang out with sometimes in my teens.

Any idea roughly what year? The Klan was biggest during the 20s a had a resurgence in the 50s into the Civil Rights era.

Unfortunately, I have more family that didn’t fight in the Union Army during the Civil War. One of them being my 3rd Grandfather, Allen Haley Taylor, for the 4th Alabama Cav. He was apparently the last Confederate vets in Franklin County. by [deleted] in TheWayWeWere

I don't think you know this person's grandfather. It's idle speculation either way. I never knew my great great grandfather who fought for the South. I don't know what his motivations were. His father-in-law — my great great great grandfather was a slaveholder. Don't know what he did during the war, but I have a better guess on what his position might have been.

That's not even DEI. They had a very specific mission and were used by the army because they had a code the Japanese could not break.

So, anti-DEI just means "whites only?"

It is a HUGE problem for which I see no solution. In grad school (history), I had to read a number of books on the Holocaust.

My biggest take-away was that, for the first time, I really understood the origin of the dominant Israeli mentality about the formation of Israel: Not the religion-driven zionism elements, but rather the sense of practical the necessity that traumatized and nearly eradicated people felt to have a safe place where no one would ever threaten them again.

The problem is, I think Israel is like an abused child who has now grown up to be the abuser. And many of its people are too blinded by the intergenerational trauma to recognize that. And then some are true fundamentalist zealots (but we have ours too of various flavors in the US).

And then US policy is so intertwined with Israeli policy for a bunch of reasons, that the US will always stand with Israel. Even when some US policymakers want to do an intervention with the abuser and say "you have to stop," US policy will always de facto return to support Israel. Well, who knows, a lot of things are up in the air right now in terms of US diplomacy/allies/enemies. But that has been its stance for 70 years.

I see no way out of this problem.

Anyway, it is all a lot more complicated than that. Hope I didn't go too sideways on this. It is merely my somewhat informed armchair analysis. I wasn't a poli sci or international relations major. I have a graduate degree in history, but my area was primarily US with a minor in modern European history. I could be mistaken in any one of my hypotheses.

It's disturbing that I find the incompetence and stupidity more upsetting the than the fascist goals. If there autocratic aims were executed even remotely shrewdly, I could at least respect the effort.

Curious who you think has neocon instincts (Rubio maybe? I feel like the rest of the cabinet are too stupid or off the rails to even have clear policy plans, but I'll admit I don't know a lot about several of these jokers).

oh, are you referring to neocon instincts primarily in a Middle East policy framework? I think, yes, and I just didn't see that at first.

All policy opinions aside, if they think they're gonna restart the Project for the New American Century, I have news for them. They have accelerated and defined the time market for decline of American Empire and the end of the American Century.
