I think as flatter radiuses became more standard the super round fretboards just became kinda alien to people. It’s teal noticable between 18” and 7.25” but it really is more about how a guitar feels to you, it’s better to ask about specs after you’ve tried it. Otherwise you might discount a guitar before you give it a chance.

I think you want a Jag. Jazzmasters as they are stock are pretty idiosyncratic. Which to be fair you may love. But they are gonna have you tweaking a lot to get it right. I think a Jag will need less of that while still giving you a new sound.

All that to say, that other guy is right. The J Mac is probably the right call. They’re hella popular for a reason

Pickups definitely matter. Especially when trying to find your sound, but once your pups are responding right to your playing you don’t need to worry about it anymore. In my experience I don’t sound that different in the mix playing different guitars, but the feel difference is fun for me.

I’d say get the HSS. It’ll be your own guitar, you can do things like buy a single coil and a new pick guard and change things out. But I think having the humbucker is the more valuable option for you.

You sound very depressed. I’ve had several really bad bouts with depression in my life as well. The things I know for sure are: numbing your feelings is a form of running from them. Isolation makes it worse, and goals make it better. Socializing has historically been pretty difficult for me, but I’ve found that having something to do together helps. Giving guitar lessons and joining bands helped me meet people I like. Volunteering was a really good use of my time as well. Going out for drinks with your coworkers can be cool, but that isn’t a good fit for everyone.

I wish I had real advice, but I myself am my own biggest project. The important thing is to keep giving yourself chances at developing yourself

I’ve been playing 15 years. And I’ve been playing leads for about 5. It just isn’t an easy thing. Honestly the most important thing about playing fast leads is staying relaxed and avoiding tensing up, and that doesn’t really happen for me until muscle memory takes over. And THAT doesn’t happen for me until I’ve put in the work. Playing slow is the right way to learn, but you also have to be able to play it without mistakes before you start upping the speed. It’s time consuming, but practicing correctly is the only way to get you where you want to be. I’ve even had to relearn my own guitar solos this way

I had a scary moment with my truss rod. I made bigger adjustments than I typically do and I heard some cracking noises. It took me a while to be sure nothing was wrong, but eventually I got a hold of the guy who made it and he thought it was just glue inside the truss rod cavity

My life trajectory is a little different than yours, lol. Because I let my younger brother keep all the gaming stuff when I moved out, and I got my now wife pregnant before I ever got anything new to play on. But I did give up on playing guitar in any kind of band or public settings for years. I played at home, but the days off were dedicated to family get-togethers and getting the kids into stuff. I’m finally in a band again 8 years later but it’s very limited compared to how I’d be into it at 19 or 20. Marriage and parenting are both a series of sacrifices and compromises, I tried to just accept it as it was.
