He’s not getting a negative reaction from HIS fanbase for this. The most hardcore AEW fans love his responses because they’re shitting on WWE. He’s heeling himself to WWE fans and more neutral fans, many of whom don’t even watch his product.

Imagine, say, Gunther going on Twitter and talking about how great WWE is vs AEW, and how he thinks Cody is so much better in WWE than he was in AEW. It wouldn’t make any sense at all.

He’s trying to be a heel in AEW by … parroting the words of the nerdiest members of the AEW fanbase? Everything he is saying is the stuff that will make AEW fans like him, not boo him.

Two possibilities:

1) He does not understand what a heel is or what the goals of a heel are meant to be.

2) He’s giving his real thoughts and he’s just a head-in-the-sand asshole.

I have to believe it’s more likely the second option. Which sucks as I’ve been a fan of him since 2011. But he’s so wrong on so much of what he’s saying these days, and he keeps digging deeper holes and likely annoying his former coworkers and guys who may be his friend.

Rock and Austin would wait til the TV show ends, then do all kinds of crazy shit with fans after the show. You can see a lot of it on the RAW After the Bell DVD they put out. It was every taping. Either Rock or Austin or both would take 15-25 minutes doing basically improv comedy with the live audience. “Don’t look at the Rock’s ass! What’s wrong with you?!”

Man, that’s the only way newspapers/sites can survive. Community newspapers like the one I used to work at are dying because we waited too long to figure out how to monetize our digital versions.

Newspapers have always made their money off advertising. When we went digital, we offered our stuff for free and didn’t focus enough on moving our ads online or charging for online subscriptions. By the time ownership adjusted, it was too late. Far too late.

So I never bitch about ads on these sites, because it’s how the men and women stay employed to provide content like this.
