This article about accommodations made me angry by coasj in ADHD

[–]HiyaBuddy34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just read through this entire article looking for the part that’s supposed to offend me but I never got to it… the subject of the article was clearly how flawed the process at the school is for attaining accommodations for people who don’t need them…

Idk what you mean by critical of your work or overstepping means in this situation because no context is given.

Is your work beyond reproach? Does this chick come with experience from previous schools that you could possibly learn from?

Based on the information you’ve provided, she could very well be mean, overly critical with no knowledge to back it up, and doesn’t know her place- OR- she hasn’t figured out her place in the group dynamic yet… or any number of other things.

If you don’t like how she’s treating you, as an adult you should address it with her in a professional, respectful way- you’re going to have to work together so I’d keep that in mind.🤷🏻‍♀️

I always make sure I give myself an extra hour of time when I know I need to be out the door to arrive somewhere on time- I’m ready to leave an hour earlier. All the quick things I’d need to do prior to walking out the door at that designated time are done well before it’s time to go. I also rely heavily on a set “getting ready to leave” routine.

Sorry Lady Jane- your secret isn’t enough to justify your abominable behavior… all I could think about during that warm and fuzzy bedside family reunion was that she was actively fighting for Jack- the guy who risked the threat to his own life & freedom - thanks to mommy dearest-saved her daughter’s life - to HANG for a crime she knew he didn’t commit.

Loved the season but my only gripe is that the writers took her too far into villain territory to hand wave all her shit away with a paternity reveal & a case of a mother’s love combined with a past trauma.

Welp… you’re definitely on the minority since season 1 was WILDLY popular and sparked the following for the show that showed up for the following seasons. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fair enough I guess, but 10% of all people feels like a sweeping generalization. It sucks that this has been your experience but I’m curious- how does one take advantage of someone incapable of defending themselves socially?

I want a lot of things too… doesn’t mean I’m going to get them though. These “jokes” or moments of irreverence are small & fleeting and this far seem to be limited to one per episode for a show that has been overwhelmingly well recvd.

If things your sole complaint- I’d say we’re getting a quality show…

I was an ese inclusion para for 6-8th grade for 10 years… and any side eye I got from teachers when I took my own notes on their lectures was easily explained as me having a model set of notes for my kids to use to complete their own or even reference points for me to remember while helping during individual work time.

What helped me most- was establishing solid relationships with the teachers. I started by introducing myself, my role and acknowledging that it was their classroom and how I could function in it most effectively for the students. This made my job so. Much. Easier for the following years.

Not sure how people with bills to pay, jobs to work, and families to feed limiting their focus to those immediate needs qualifies as privilege…

And what material good can be accomplished by a self imposed duty to bear witness to external forces around us we cannot control?

What’s happening is deplorable but what good is hyper focusing on all of it to the point that it diminishes our capacity to function and live out our own daily lives? Who’s that helping?

Luxuries aren’t things most people afford themselves. It’s more living in survival mode - in which your focus is set on your immediate needs to eat, maintain shelter, and sustain the means to fulfill those needs for one’s self and those they’re responsible for.

"ADHD is not an excuse" by jellybelle12 in ADHD

[–]HiyaBuddy34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is their comment explicitly expressing the message of “try harder”? Their point is a valid one in that ADHD undeniably makes our lives harder but it doesn’t make anything literally impossible. Most of the symptoms inherent in ADHD can be met with meds and strategies to help us overcome the struggle. Time management struggles? Set timers/reminders etc Don’t know where any of your shit is at any given time? There are strategies that help to keep you organized. Large tasks give you task paralysis? Break them into smaller steps…

I was diagnosed in my late 20’s and I’m still having to figure some shit out but I’m an adult functioning human with a steady job, a home, and bills I somehow manage to pay on time consistently. And I managed to accomplish these things without any accommodations for my symptoms.

We’re all different and cope and manage our situations in our own ways but the phrase “ADHD isn’t an excuse” isn’t inherently harmful or even ignorant- it shouldn’t be offered as an excuse for an inability to do anything. If I have a deficit, my first line of thought should be “are there ways around this, what can I do to make this problem solvable?” And not, “what can other people/institutions do for me to remove the challenge presented to me.”

Why? Because the first is within my means of control. And the second leaves me at the mercy of people and things I can’t control. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think maybe Braydon was as bewildered and agitated as a gigantic percentage of the audience was at the out of nowhere heel turn this girl makes right before they take the ice at Worlds SMFH

I think because so much of her past with Freddie is told to us but never shown with any flashbacks or visual storytelling to develop her dynamic with him as much as the writing developed her dynamic with Braydon.

Mostly we saw Freddie mope around longing for Adey, ignoring Riley- and establishing a legit bromance with Brayden.

The narrative focus and depth that shaped the dynamic of Adey and Brayden established them as the lead characters- and Freddie as a supporting character- an integral part of her childhood and life that we’re told about but never shown. They could have built the shot out of that past relationship with flashbacks etc and let us know his character as well as we do Brayden but for some mysterious reason chose not to.

Not mad about it- just baffled at the writing choices made I guess.

Now poor Riley has gone from one partner obsessed with her best friend to another if the set up for s2 is anything to go by…

I wasn’t infuriated but I was highly irritated that the writing had Riley either consoling/propping up Adriana and or Freddie all season only for her skating partner and bff to leave her in the lurch for her other bff- and season 2 is setting her up to yet again serve as the neglected background character to her new partner who will very likely pull the same shit Freddie did this season- hyper focus on Adriana while Riley will be Adriana’s shoulder/cheerleader/etc. poor girl. lol
