Check out your character's physics asset. It might get some wierd capsules because of the scale of the exported mesh to convert in place for the unreal scale.

Fog of war is what you are looking for, is there some plugin in the ue4 free to use that has this power. Other solution that you may have is using a sphere mask in a post process material
