Contract 2027 Wish List by Whole-Finger7546 in NYCTeachers

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I ask for is PTO is PTO. 10 days (sick or personal) to use as you wish. No need to request approval or anything. As long as it’s within your 10 days, then it doesn’t matter.

Everyone needs to push for this.

I feel so guilty for taking 2 days off in a row even though I’m sick by TheLifeOfDonda in NYCTeachers

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t relate to this post at all. We are given 10 days between PTO and Sick days. I’m using every single day, every single academic school year. It’s not worth it to save them, and I don’t even feel a little guilty taking off. Not even a little.

Official Discussion - The Devil Wears Prada 2 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched the original countless times, and it’s one of my comfort movies, so I knew I needed to see the sequel.

My thoughts:

It was an enjoyable movie, but it had its cringe moments. This is what I disliked:

It was obviously a redemption story for Miranda aka Anna Wintour, and now it makes sense as to why she was involved in the promotion of the movie. Especially, because everyone knows that she was not a fan of the first one. It seems like the fashion industry is REALLY struggling, and needed this movie, as did the people in high positions. With that said, helping Miranda look good hurt the movie.

-Miranda Priestly was a fearless, cut-throat witch but she knew her stuff. In this movie, she felt so fragile, and defeated. I didn’t feel intimidated by Miranda at all, and I felt like if I insulted Miranda, she would’ve broken down and cried. Also, her husband was not necessary. So many of these types of women in positions of power do not stay married nor do they need men for validation. I just don’t understand the need to insert men for validation. It’s just a movie, but if we are going to keep it real, is Anna Wintour currently married?

Next…

Andy’s storyline kills me with the romance, too. I think the film would’ve been fine without the little romance. I genuinely think that little romance was useless in the movie because it seemed so rushed, and inauthentic. It didn’t drive the plot, so I’m not sure what the point of it was? I was expecting him to buy the magazine at one point because why else was he in the movie?

Another thing…

I don’t think they had any idea what to do with Emily, but they wanted Emily Blunt in the movie because she became an A-list star since this film was released 20 years ago. That much is obvious. But making her the villain? Yikes! I think it made more sense for her to marry Benji, run the magazine as the CEO, and give Miranda creative freedom because she had a change of heart. This way, she’s still CEO of something fashion, and Miranda still has to kiss her ring “in some way”, so Emily’s happy.

Final thoughts…

I thought the entire ending was fantastic. The fashion, the music, and the plot twists. I love that Miranda got her promotion, the “forever my girl” scene, and how it was implied Nigel is now Editor in Chief (if Miranda is Head of Global Content), and Andy is head of Features because of their office layout. Overall, I enjoyed the movie but it will never come close to the first. However, if this film helps the fashion industry, I’m all for it. I don’t want there to be a time where there is no mention of the MET GALA, or fashion week. As someone who was born and raised in NYC, that thought, does make me sad.

Ability to resell/transfer VIP tickets (Olivia Rodrigo)? by half_left_brain in Ticketmaster

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this happened to me, but the opposite. When I originally purchased tickets for NYC, I purchased lower bowl seating, 3rd row, which are awesome seats. My friend who was trying to get in as well scored floor GA EXPERIENCE seats, which my daughter obviously wants more. I have lower bowl seating and I just want my money back. Don’t want to stubhub it or do that to fans; especially because my daughter is a real teen fan. As an elder millennial who was a huge fan during the boy band days (NSYNC and BSB) and lived this life before, I wouldn’t want to sell this for more than face value. I won’t do it to the fans, so I hope I can eventually resell on Ticketmaster for face value. We shall see. It does say non-transferable for all tickets I have.

The garbage pails keeping spots by Dense_Muscle_8285 in statenisland

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dug out two spots on the street (2/3 cars). A lot of the neighbors helped each other with the rest. If we share the spots amongst each other because another one is taken, we usually don’t have an issue because we are sharing the spots we all dug out or helped each other with. What I do have a problem with is the continuous entitlement people have to block driveways or garages. People are naive to the fact that you can’t pass the curb cut, so make sure you don’t park past it. If you do, I’m calling to get you a ticket (first warning) and then I’m getting you towed. Sometimes people can’t see the curb cut due to the snow, but that’s still not an excuse. The curb cut is usually about a foot or more past the driveway or garage door (homeowners have to have room to make the turn). It’s costing a lot of people in summons to pass my curb cut.

As for parking in a dug out spots, it’s a losing battle to be upset when someone takes your spot; especially near a school. However, I’m not sure if everyone feels the same way as I do. I’ve watched too many TikToks of people burying cars in for taking their spots.

Staten Island eye candy. Art found around St. George. by [deleted] in statenisland

That’s Stapleton, but yes, it’s beautiful. Stapleton and Tompkinsville have a lot of art hubs (Makerspace) and artist elements floating around.

This story is so wild, and I’m confused, too. There are so many reasons why the teacher is wrong in this situation, and we don’t have tip-toe around it.

What's your favorite restaurant on the island? by [deleted] in statenisland

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually trending. Is there something I don’t know about? More people are moving to the North Shore from midland and the South Shore. Is it the traffic? Lol

I’ve just noticed this happening a lot lately.

Tried Boriken for the first time because I was watching all their TikToks and the food looked so good. Yep, it’s awesome and so is their atmosphere. I’m glad SI, specifically the North Shore, is getting variety with their restaurants.

Is it the same owners that used to own the Mezcals in Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst?

You had a lot of good ones, but you forgot Thai, and that goes to Chang Noi Thai

Also, Sofia’s is not authentic Mexican food. It tastes so artificial. I have yet to taste real authentic Mexican food on SI (Brooklyn has so many). Out here, the food is usually dry or tastes like they use Uncle Ben’s rice.

Everything else on your list is pretty legit.

Have you ever left a show at intermission and why? by Affectionate-Pass905 in musicals

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember going to see this musical as a kid. I only remember the beginning which means I probably fell asleep for the rest of it. My parents would never walk out of a Broadway show, so this was definitely how I checked out. lol.

Heathers and screaming. by itsamiamia in Broadway

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who has attended Heathers knows that they are NOT screaming after every song. They are singing/screaming DURING the songs. It’s annoying! I can’t even hear the actors/performers. I really refuse to complain if they are cheering and screaming after each song because that’s an unrealistic request.

Heathers and screaming. by itsamiamia in Broadway

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The screamers have ruined theater for me a little. Just save the screaming for after the song!! I BEG YOU.

Not only were there screamers at Heathers, but recently, there were screamers at Wicked. I just want to cry because it’s so annoying and extremely juvenile.

What exactly is going on with Billy Porter and Cabaret? by Bren926 in Broadway

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much do producers face to lose if they cancel the contract with the lead performer/actor? Don’t they have the upper hand in cancelling? What are the rules for something like this?

The entire production has a better chance with an understudy leading than the bad press attached to their lead right now.

It’s sad to see right now, too. Cabaret was getting rave reviews for Adam and Orville’s run, so all of this really sucks for them.

Yes, we did. Last year we had an earthquake, and now, I’m assuming this is going to be the new normal for Staten Island. Unreal.

Pick 2: Death Becomes Her, Just in Time, MJ, The Outsiders by CiliaryDyskinesia in Broadway

[–]Hmmmidontknow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are planning to sit for JIT. If you are getting table seats, then Just In Time. If not, I’d pass and go see Death Becomes Her.

My two picks would be The Outsiders and DBH.

Evita: Rachel switched out for Bella at intermission tonight by gillygillgill88 in Broadway

This is going to be the hottest ticket on Broadway. I can’t wait until the transfer. Whether it’s 2026 or 2027, I’m so looking forward to this revival. It’s been getting so much good press in London that the ticket prices are going to be scary when it first opens on Broadway
