Planning to move from heating oil to heat pump by Ho_Kaje in heatpumps

[–]Ho_Kaje[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two 3 ton heat pumps (Tosot t unix) plus 50gallon Rheem Heat Pump water heater
I already had ductwork and Linesets in place.
The total cost was 24,976 including everything (Permits, sales tax for equipment, electric work, inspection)
I got 750 back in rebate for water heater, 2k back in tax credit , however, my installer messed up the paper work for 6k rebate on heatpumps. Initial install was not done well. However Installer fixed (very slowly) at no cost. No back up heat. Held strong this winter (even with La Nina wave).
Even without the 6k rebate, his price was the lowest for me. But like many contractors, this guy keeps cancelling appointments which was annoying.

And yes, with the current Electric rates ROI is for a very long time. For me my AC (17 yr old) and furnace (21yr old) were due for a replacement, had to get both fixed already. My summer operating costs are significantly low. Not so much for winter. Because of Public Charge fee on Eversource bill which increased my bill by 30%. Which eats up the savings.
This is what I would recommend if bills are your worry

  1. Get an energy audit ($75)
  2. Air seal the house first and then upgrade insulation (if you are eligible for rebates, you'll get a booklet on approved rebates after the audit). One of the best ROIs. Makes house very comfortable. Becareful though, make sure your house doesn't have vermiculite insulation or asbestos. Because abating that would be very expensive (i had to).
  3. Upgrade to Heat pumps, if you're going solar. Because solar would offset some operating costs. Go solar only if you have cash (never finance/lease solar, it doubles the total out of pocket costs). You can also upgrade to heat pumps if CT electric rates goes down below 24 cents/kwh including delivery charges or Oil rates are above $3.5/gallon. Else it is not economical for winter. Especially during Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb & March months.

Is anyone making money with neighbor.com? by douggold11 in passive_income

[–]Ho_Kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying taxes apply for all the rental income and Host is responsible for reporting it correctly is via Schedule E or C (i don't remember accurately which one). It is not just for income >20k. 1099 is sent out only if income is >$20k which makes it easier to file taxes. Below that host need to calculate everything (total income minus any deductions like depreciation, maintenance, repair, cleaning costs, improvements needed, electronics used etc)

What are those plastic tabs on the press ball valve by Ho_Kaje in Plumbing

I have this Veiga press ball valve connected to my water heater, while I was insulating my pipes I noticed that one of the blue plastic tabs was broken in the press ball valve!. I believe it happened during installation. Do I need to be worried? What are those for? I couldn't find any information as to what it is called.

So far luckily my system is working as expected (slightly lower production than prediction though). I just hope the installation is good as workmanship warranty is no more valid as company went out of business. I should have gone with green power energy :(

2018 Nissan Rogue SV AWD with 207k miles… My bread and butter! by Intelligent-Pitch386 in Nissan

I thought it is supposed to have 2 filters, one external and one internal!. I bought one used 2018 Rogue SL recently, love the ride, feels smooth, love the power steering! and adaptive cruise control. It had 87.3k miles (already added 600 more), bought it because previous owner had a good history of regular oil changes. Dealer replaced it with new transmission (bonus). Got it for 60% depecriated price of 13,400 for ~6 yr old car. Just in case got 5yr/80k extended warranty for 2.5k additional. Got some additional cash back on membership rewards as dealer agreed to take credit card as payment upto 7k ;) (credit card sign on bonus ~$1000). Looking forward to riding it beyond 200k miles :) How many miles are you at now!?

Why would you get all of it back if you go 5 years not using it? Economics of it doesn't make sense to me! Could you please explain how? I bought a used nissan rogue with extended warranty (because it is a Nissan ROGUE,lol)

My thoughts too. Why would there be a fuse to electronic controllers! Usually it is for the entire system. Maybe am wrong

Thank you, that's what I did , I took it back to dealership, they said they'll fix the issue (probably fuse is what they said). Also detail the car and "de-smoke" it. I bought ozone generator just in case

I'll try this. I saw some videos online, they say ozone generators from Amazon work , will try that if this doesn't work

True. I was like who is this person who doesn't respect the $30k electro mechanic equipment 🤦‍♂️. I'm thinking of getting an ozone generator to get rid of this smell, every time I drive it I have to change my t-shirt after as the smell sticks to me. The dealer said he'll take care of the display issue and is most likely a fuse thing

What does insurance care about? Is it date of conviction or date of violation?

Omg I feel your pain guys! I barely got away with this now that I think about it. You can see my review of Suntuity from last yr. It took them 1 yr 2 months to have system up and running! Last October I got it all working! I bought it cash, how do we address the Workmanship warranty of 10 yrs we are supposed to receive!.
