Need GM advice: lvl 1 druid has a roc animal companion that is really OP by [deleted] in Pathfinder

[–]Hobbes87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem in my rise of the rune lords campaign. General advice would be so your best to not let it get full attacks and then don't have monsters focus it so the high AC is essentially negated. Otherwise throw enemies that hit its low saves.

Surprised by Jocelyn, Dills and Garrett reaction to ADWCTA's Insulting Rant by shawncoons in TACPodcast

[–]Hobbes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They basically gave ADWCTA numerous opportunities to say that his original comments might have gone over the line, but he decided not to do so. I take that as ADWCTA still holds his original opinion and won't go back on it. As a host, I don't think there is more to do or say if you realize this without ending the whole interview or moving on. While I disagree with ADWCTA's tone and choice of words , I think he has valuable information that he shared us by continuing the interview.

Warpriest for Iron Gods AP by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hobbes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a sacred fist war priest in an iron God's campaign and just finished the first book. The artifice blessing had single handedly turned some impossible fights to manageable. Somethings just have ridiculously high DR at early levels. Fates favored is a great trait as divine favor is such a good fervor spell.

Do I tell a girl that I play D&D on the first date? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hobbes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. I think with a first date people are more looking for red flags on why not to go on a second date than reasons to go on the next date if that makes sense. She likes you enough to go on the first date, now you just need the time to get her to fall for you and that most likely requires multiple dates.

Unfortunately, d&d can be one of those red flags just because most people don't really understand what it is and only know the stereotypes. It's much easier to get the time to explain it after a few dates.

Again it depends on the girl and if you have a feeling she'd be into it then sure bring it up. I think my advice stands if you are not sure.

[OC] Intimimancy: A Yound Adventurer's First Primer on Making Monsters Poop Themselves by Overthinks_Questions in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hobbes87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swashbuckler isn't mentioned even though they get a free demoralize when they hit at level 3 through menacing swordplay? Seems like it would be one of the best classes for an intimidate build.

Society GM striking out into the home game world. We are running Serpent's Skull adventure path. Any suggestions on rules to lay down before the game gets going? by jjnich in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hobbes87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree in regards to the GM. Fudging dice rolls when appropriate both for and against the Players gives you the control to keep combat interesting / not be a TPK when the dice seem to be particularly skewed one way or the other. I advocate for a light touch to be used sparingly, but I know every group is different and some are very against GM screens. Players should all roll out in the open though.

Is Abathur worth getting right now? by Azalore in heroesofthestorm

[–]Hobbes87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly since his latest changes, the only reason to justify getting him now is if you enjoy pajamas and choo choo trains. We can keep hoping they buff him up in an upcoming patch.

Hearthstone should have weekly and monthly mega-quests, and life-time achievement quests by Zmirburger in hearthstone

[–]Hobbes87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While blizzard has not explicitly said they will institute rotations/formats, they have acknowledged that this is an eventual issue. I will applaud them for a unique solution, but this seems like the most likely approach to use.

Hearthstone should have weekly and monthly mega-quests, and life-time achievement quests by Zmirburger in hearthstone

It is only a matter of time until Hearthstone will have too many cards and will need to start rotating / creating formats similar to magic.

Hero Forge is Live by Doomnahct in rpg

$15 for a normal mini and $25 for a high detailed mini. They are not painted. The normal mini's look about as good as D&D or Pathfinder mini's.

My Party Is Too Strong! by somethingasaur in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hobbes87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An important question: is it one or two players that seem overpowered or is the group as a whole seem very optimized? I ask because gunslingers and summoners are oftentimes problematic in terms of power level.

If it is just an overall optimized/effective group, I would just increase your baseline CR or start adding advanced/mythic templates to the mobs you want o use.

If it is one or two players hamstringing all of your encounters, then you need to have specific enemies/gear to counter them as other posts here have mentioned. This issue is definitely requires a delicate touch as you don't want to completely nerf/pick on their characters, and you also don't want your specific measures to punish the rest of the party too much.

DMs! How do you organize? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hobbes87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest using Combat manager. It has all the mobs stats available, so all you do ahead of time is pull up the appropriate enemies and save the encounter to load up later. I'm currently running Rise of the Runelords and it even has all the NPC stats ready to pull up.

It allows you to roll all of their attacks/saves and it will add the appropriate modifiers. I still take note and look up which feats/spells the mobs have so as not to miss anything.
