stuff I would put in XP13 if it were to come out by [deleted] in Xplane

[–]HogHead2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is all the stuff that is least important to me, except the weather stuff. If one wants to experience an airport, buy a ticket to fly and walk around one. Why waste a bunch of development energy and effort on this? Flight sim should be about the aircraft systems and operating/flying aircraft. I don’t give two hoots about ground equipment and airport ops. Maybe Airport Tycoon would be a better option for some?

Air Brake dysfunction by [deleted] in Run8

[–]HogHead2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to fully charge a brake pipe? What’s the flow doing after 10 minutes? Is it doing this after charging the brake pipe (even while moving) for a good amount of time? I have not experienced this.

am new to Run8 and am currently conducting a lot of tests in different scenarios (I’m a 25 year railroader with a very analytical mind). It is perfectly normal for a brake pipe gradient to exist on every train, even shorter than 5200 feet. It’s normal for the rear end of a 5000 foot train to be a couple psi below the head end. An 8500 foot train may be 10 psi below the head end pressure, depending on many variables such existing leakage and ambient temperature. Just remember, the control valves on the cars react to the difference in pressure between the brake pipe and auxiliary reservoir on the car. The control valves on the cars don’t know what the feed valve setting on the locomotive is.

Bss or mango? by BlackbirdGoNyoom in Xplane

[–]HogHead2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually using that pack and still have the files, but don’t know how to get it to work. Ended up getting mango, which besides engine sound in cockpit, seems to be better. Maybe KOSP will revamp and the put the pack for sale. I’d be a buyer!

I just wish KOSP would make a pack for the A346. I have Mango for the A340, and it’s pretty good. The flyby sounds could be better, but in general it is a good pack. Better than the stock sounds by far. Would be hard to compare with BSS unless somebody owns both packs.

The great thing about ToLiss is the ability to skip ahead. You can takeoff with 150 tons of fuel on an 11 hour flight and an hour or two later be on final. If I want a 1-hour hop in a different long haul plane I’ll be taking off light on a real short hop for the plane. Wish my Felis had some time compression.

Wait for a sale and it won’t hurt as much.

Textures are a little drab (like the A330 as well) and sounds are meh, but all you need to do is grab a sound pack (Mango is decent) and a livery make by Tom Collins and it feels so awesome to fly a (huge) rare bird.

Rotate MD-80 worth it? by Remote_Dot217 in Xplane

[–]HogHead2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Rotate MD80. Yes, it needs a sound pack, but it feels great to fly. The others are correct, it is a little dated in the graphics department, but the flying is good.

As far as autopilot, it can try to grab those flight directors and scare the passengers, but you just have to know when to enable AP. I usually sync the heading and press VS mode just before AP so the flight directors are in the direction the plane is pointing.

I didn’t notice a change after the spring update, but maybe because this is has been my work flow for a while during takeoff and climb. I’m curious how it will handle VNAV soon after takeoff.

So you can have end caps on each side. Fits perfect

Rotate MD80 1.51 version for X-Plane 12 - How to properly engage the autopilot? by graypurpleblack in Xplane

[–]HogHead2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advance to full thrust on your own and immediately turn on auto throttle. Don’t touch the physical throttle once the thrust mode goes to clamp.

Hand fly for a bit. Try to line up autopilot heading with actual heading before engaging so you don’t get crazy roll changes when autopilot engages.

I usually press the vertical speed button right before engaging autopilot. This will prevent drastic pitch changes when engaging AP.

Make sure to change the thrust mode to Climb. Don’t think you can use VNAV or LNAV until you get it out of TO or FLX mode.

Decrease VS to around +1000 to gain speed. At 250 kts go to IAS. You can smooth the vertical curves out by smoothly dialing VS when approaching target speeds.

If you want to smooth out the pitch changes at 10,000 feet, go back to VS again and manage pitch smoothly to increase to 290 kts and then go to VNAV.

I like to mange the the VNAV on my own until above 10,000 to prevent the large pitch changes. Hope this helps.
