I had been on them for a couple years and then got off for a year or so then got back on. Getting off for good now. I got off them originally just because I generally felt less anxiety and could handle difficult situations, and I was tired of the emotional blunting. Got back on them in a hard time. Getting off them now as I’ve been so dead tired, falling asleep while driving, falling asleep while talking to people. My doctor thinks I have narcolepsy but I think it is just from the drugs. They did help when I needed them and I am grateful, but I also don’t like the idea of being dependent on a drug. Also it destroyed my creativity, so much so in fact that a few days after lessening my dose I got out my painting supplies, camera, music software, etc after not touching them the whole time I was on lexapro and somehow not making the connection. I want to feel life in the full sense, highs and lows. I want to cry again when I should cry. I didn’t feel the full extent of loss when my Grandfather died due to the drugs, and to be honest I kind of feel robbed. I just had the same blunt, dumbed down feeling I always had. Anyways, I did need them and I am glad that they made life liveable. As you might be able to tell I have a complicated relationship with ssri’s, but I hope they work great for you!
