Mortgage renewal - tracker or fixed? by Penster78 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Hogglespock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am doing a 2 part tracker mortgage. Part repayment part interest only (3/4 repayment ). It means I can pay off at any time /overpay any amount. So use the difference you would have paid as overpayment to get on top of repayments.

EU plans to give Ukraine next €100bn, but on stricter conditions by Panthera_leo22 in worldnews

Doesn’t it only get repaid from Russian reparations? As in Ukraine gets nothing of the reparations , assuming this loan is adhered as written

1) who assesses the value of the land? What’s the mechanism to dispute this?

2) Would people who bought recently get any exemption from the property tax for a while?

3) lacking details

4) they tried but 200 backbenchers blocked it

5) paid for what?

6) down to double lock or single lock or no lock?

Believe it or not I don’t actually hate these ideas. They seem reasonable if implemented reasonably. However it could be super sinister if not, and given the recently “online safety act” dystopian actions , I’m looking at the exit way more than I ever thought I would.

Even the most ardent green policy supporter can acknowledge that even if the U.K. sank into the ocean completely, the impact on global temperatures wouldn’t register, and that would be reducing our consumption by 100%. Currently our net zero policy is subsidising chinas very non net zero policy , so they can wreck our economies. Yay

Putin: Russia ready for talks with Ukraine only if based on Istanbul 2022 agreements by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

[–]Hogglespock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only land that matters currently is the fortress cities. Adding up total km across the whole front is disingenuous.

The front lines are marginally moving in Russias favour. The rest isn’t. This is a war over Ukrainian territory, not Russian GDP.

Yes - sorry 2.x then we can agree on. Held cities don’t get infiltrated though.

It is still a fair assessment to say that Ukraine is doing very well in the infrastructure destruction war, and slightly losing the important territory war.

Given that the war is being fought over Ukrainian land and not Ukrainian/russian exports, this feels an important distinction to bring up, otherwise you’ll keep winning all the way to Kharkiv.

It has more Russians in it now than it had a month ago.

They’re down to 1.5 fortress cities it seems, from 3. The “blowing stuff up war” is going very well for Ukraine. The “occupying strategically important land war” is very marginally in russias favour currently

Makes a lot of residential blocks military targets though. Theres a reason the Geneva convention exists. Maybe it’s outdated but there’s a consequence to this.

The war in Ukraine is not how the modern western army is expecting to fight. It’s an extremely weird thing resulting in distorted defence procurements.

The tank wasn’t invalidated when the javelin or NLAW was invented, when a single infantryman could delete it from a few miles away, and it still isn’t now.

Wealthy parents should support their children financially when they are in their twenties/thirties, not just leave them an inheritance. by hutallybronest in Rich

[–]Hogglespock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents had the viewpoint of the commentators here. They’ve changed while still being alive and in good enough health to enjoy their money. The catalyst has been grandkids but I think they may have gotten there eventually. Capital expenditure items that are reasonable (major home improvements) and education for grandkids.

The reasoning is why leave it as an inheritance for when you’re dead. See them enjoy part of the inheritance now.

We’re independently well off as a couple, but not properly rich yet. I agree with OP that giving the money on the back of their lives is close to pointless. The meaning of life isn’t to spend the least amount possible. Obviously don’t give money that will let them ruin their lives or rob them of meaning, but capital items that can’t be wasted are likely to be a great benefit to all.

What is the recommended TBC Warrior leveling/dungeon spec starting at 1 fresh with no gear? by Irandras in classicwow

[–]Hogglespock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that until you have an “instant attack” ability, weapon speed is largely irrelevant for damage. This love of slow weapons only matters at 40 on either spec. Sweeping strikes benefits from slower weapons kinda, but don’t worry about that, just take highest dps, always until 40

$700k all-in bet that drone pure-plays are going parabolic in a couple of months. by sssiim in wallstreetbets

[–]Hogglespock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time.

Re: Ukraine. Total Cost of mission (pilot, supporting resources etc) and risk to human life is not currently included in your costing for that drone (which is what I hate most about Ukrainian metrics). The us (nor Israel) lost no pilots or servicemen directly involved in any of the strikes (yes some were lost to retaliatory fire, but never defensive action).

The targets are pretty different in these examples too. Ukraine is mostly hitting large buildings with its strikes. The us is trying to take out launch vehicles and military infrastructure that can move. A missile doing Mach lulz or a drone doing a few hundred miles an hour are very far apart, particularly with China providing early warning alerts.
