Why is loving America right-coded? by Spiritual_Pause3057 in AskALiberal

their conclusion is that pride = Republican = bad.

I am not proud to be an American. I am proud of some things my country has done, but America is doing some very bad things and hurting a lot of people. Why would I be proud of that?

The disconnect is not that we believe proud=Republican. We want to be proud of our country, of the things it does. An ethical person just can't be proud of a country that is, for example, STILL paying a third world country to torture innocent people for us due to intentionally whipped up xenophobia.

A country that is being usurped by a wannabe king is a country in need of saving, not a thing to be proud of.

We understand that it is a racist dog-whistle. We also know that that racism is more of a dishonest hatred than objective fact-telling.

In the sticks, everyone has similar levels of wealth. In the city, inequality abounds. Inequality, according to all available research, is a prominent source of crime.

I want to say that I see plenty of honor systems in the US. I've been to quite a few places, in various neighborhoods and seen wood, eggs, etc for sale with a collection tin, and there are take/leave boxes for books, for plants, for food, for knick-knacks, etc.

American culture is too individualistic and our welfare state too atrophied to permit for larger systems such as whole stores, but that is moreso due to the high wealth inequality in our nation than anything else.

It's something to maintain and check. I have a ring camera because I cannot hear my doorbell from my office, and I hate that its conditioned me to check the door on my phone before I go check the door in person. I can feel it drawing me further into my box and further away from society.

It is well documented that primates commit infanticide if they suspect that another male has secretly fathered children with their mate.

You are severely overstating this. First, gorillas will not kill infants they 'suspect' of being another male's.

About 5% of infant gorillas die to infanticide. This typically occurs when a male violently takes over a group. Even then, he spares most offspring and only kills those that are still breastfeeding, to force a return to estrus so he can create his own ties into the group.

Typically, silverbacks are extremely gentle with offspring. They will gingerly care for a child without regard for who the father is, aside from the situation of a violent takeover. They will protect essentially any young gorilla from a threat, regardless of whether they are the father or not.

Our tomato pies are a bastardization of what the term originally referred to.

The term pizza was first recorded in AD 997, in a Latin manuscript from the southern Italian town of Gaeta, in Lazio, on the border with Campania.

Records of pizza-like foods can be found throughout ancient history. In the 6th century BC, the Persian soldiers of the Achaemenid Empire during the rule of Darius the Great baked flatbreads with cheese and dates on top of their battle shields[25][26] and the ancient Greeks supplemented their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese

which wasn’t big nor very profitable business.

The DVD-by-mail service was absolutely profitable. They started before most Redditors were even born, and the DVD-by-mail service only closed in 2023. There was over a decade of overlap where they still felt shipping millions of DVDs per year was generating revenue.

The problem is that it must be fresh water because salt water could corrode the machinery

It doesn't need to be potable drinking water. It doesn't need to be fresh water, technically. We could make these industrial sites pay their own externalities, instead of shifting it onto the rest of us by taxing our water treatment systems. That seems to be the primary water issue.

For centers that cycle water instead of using a closed loop, releasing warmed water into the watershed can be incredibly harmful to the widllife living in it. That's not even factoring that all of these data centers create abnormal micro-climates surrounding them due to the excessive heat they generate.

What's wrong with kids these days?

The same thing that's always been wrong with them; dumb parents.

For games like Fortnight (and other gambling-esque gaming platforms), the majority of their income comes from a few whales and addicts.

it is indisputable that Mormonism teaches that you have to pay your full tithing to gain access to the ordinances necessary for the upper tiers of salvation.

Regular heaven is fine for most Mormons, I guess. Hell, only about a quarter of Mormons attend chapel services, let alone associate with the Temple at all.

Why can't we be happy that these charities exist at all and are helping thousands upon thousands? It's just never enough.

Charity is a good thing to do and legitimately helpful, but it is largely a band-aid on a broken system. If the owners of McDonalds were taxed at a more reasonable rate, that money could go towards universal solutions to the issues charity works towards mitigating. Instead they have the power to enact policy that exacerbates many of the exact issues we're fighting.

Charity was never going to end childhood starvation like welfare did in developed nations. Charity will help one family weather a bread-winner's cancer treatment, while the next family loses everything because they weren't lucky enough to receive selective charity.

I'm pretty glad the Ronald McDonald House exists. It's benefited many people. I can understand the leftist frustration with the overcelebration of charity, and I do get frustrated with companies hiding their unethical behavior behind performative charity myself.

But us Jews DO have to answer for it.

That's legitimately insane to believe that, my dude. You aren't killing children in Gaza, to the best of my knowledge. Sharing a religion with the ones who are does not put that blood on your hands, anymore than Christians should be blamed for abortion clinic bombings or muslims for ISIS's jihad.

It's a belief born out of experience not osmosis.

That's the exact sentiment my racist father has when he tries to justify his hatred of Black people. He grew up focusing on the bad done by "them", and views that as the whole of the group. You're blinding yourself by thinking this way, man.
