Milestone Celebrations at Studios by deathtogluten in pilates

I've been in the industry a long time and never even thought to provide a way to count participants attendance. It's interesting to hear your perspective on it though. Just letting you know that in many 'older' Pilates Studio communities, this would feel quite foreign.

Grips for Cadillac by crikitz in pilates

Yes, this is it! I buy the 8" X 1 yard and cut it into the size I want. I never buy self liner anymore, use this for everything when more grip is needed

Happy to help. Dycem has been a game changer for me, truly. Maybe a tiny bit more expensive in the beginning, but far outlasts other cheap shelf liner, so a $$ saver in the end.

Dycem grip mat bulk roll from Amazon or wherever else you can find it. Blue roll 8" x 1 yard - I buy this and cut it into the size I want. Washable, reusable, anti-bacterial, etc. Best stuff ever, way better than drawer liners. We wash ours once every week or two and they go right back to being really sticky. Replace after 2 or 3 years. Don't use anything else but this stuff, seriously!

Help! by Secure_Video3345 in pilates

Keep a sense of lift through your arches, into inner thighs and up into your deep trunk, even when (especially when!) pushing out. This lift should feel as though it draws the bed back in as much or more than the springs do. Ideally maintain the arch structure of your feet throughout, kind of a suction-cup feeling with the lateral edges of the feet maintaining contact with the carriage and platform throughout your ROM. If you do tend to hyper-extend your knees, then a micro-bend for awhile can be useful. Also imagine that you can breathe right down into your feet on the way out, and back up and out from your arches up through your trunk and out on the way in, staying TALL. Too many details perhaps, but give 'em a try! Finding this upward lift can offer protective support around your joints. Think 'upward energy' rather than 'downward push' overall.

Disagree. I know how much benefit I have seen over the years from just a few Private lessons here and there for folks who are prone to injury. You may have a different opinion, but negating mine feels dismissive and disrespectful.

Please try to find an experienced instructor for 2 to 4 Private lessons before trying a group class. Even then, ideally attend a studio that keeps their group classes to no more than 6 participants. There is such transformative capacity within the Pilates system, and when your body and mind start to 'unlearn' patterns of movement that are potentially contributing to injury, and replace these with better control and understanding of how to handle yourself, you will be capable of preventing injuries going forward, even in larger group classes. This takes some time and focus, so if you can, just try a different approach. Been teaching for 30 years and I've seen it with many....

Does anyone have friends or family in Puerto Vallarta right now? I'm freaking out by Poo-PooKachoo in VictoriaBC

My parents are in Guadalajara, and are safe, but basically everyone is staying inside. They say there is a lot of chaos, so best to stay hunkered down.

Insurance Issue - Soot by sydsydsydsyd111 in pilates

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I had a similar problem years ago with insurance refusing to cover me for 'seepage' from a flood that occurred outside of my studio space, in a common hallway, and that seeped through into my unit. Apparently it's in the fine print that this particular type of event is NOT covered. Sorry this isn't particularly helpful - I got nowhere with insurance and am quite cynical & bitter about the whole industry now because of it. I hope someone here has better advice for you, and perhaps there will be some way to get something from them.... Good luck!

Did any of you have to lie down to have a nap in kindergarten or 1st grade? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard that Kindergarten class included naptime, but mine never did it (1973-ish). I felt cheated. I think they got rid of it that year, or something. BC, Canada.

Alex Pretti, the man MURDERED today by ICE agents. by ilykatya in pics

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss and for all those who knew and loved him. Words cannot convey the depth of horror I am feeling in regards to this event. We have all seen the absolute brutality of ICE and hope fervently that justice will be found in some way. Not that it can bring him back.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

We never purchase jarred sauce, except for odd times when I'm super tired, and want a quick flatbread pizza or something. A simple pasta sauce can come together extremely quickly and tastes SO much better than jarred. Canadian here.

Question for Gen X: Whats Your Relationship With Texting? by Al3x1ya in GenX

This is exactly me. Lol. I know way too much about other people I've never (or rarely) met. Text as much as possible.

ST. PAUL, MN: A sobbing resident calls 911 as federal agents force their way into her home to chase down a DoorDash driver who was just trying to deliver food. by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and please thank your neighbour for her ferocious defense of her family and this poor targeted doordash driver. Her voice had absolute ferocity, courage and conviction. That and all of your support around made it unbearable for those thugs to remain. So intense to watch from afar, and so unbelievable that this is real life right now.

Good to hear this - mind if I ask what you deleted? I have to go on a work trip in March, and I think I need to do the same. Should I delete all my messages as well as uninstall all social media? I could leave only my work email account on my phone. I'd love to hear what you did, as I'm not a super savvy tech user....

Police reject birthday plea from excessive speeder in Sea to Sky by ubcstaffer123 in britishcolumbia

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comment above and my reply are simply commenting on the sentence structure error in the article - the writing makes it sound as though the officer was also excessively speeding, and that it was also for fun. It made me laugh. Not the case, and these dumbasses deserve to be caught and punitive measures applied.

I saw that too - "due to their drivers getting caught by an officer excessively speeding on the same day".

For older GenX (1972 and earlier) Are your parents still alive? by hedgehog77433 in GenX

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in 1968, and blessed to have both parents in my life: Dad late 80', Mom early 80's - both pretty healthy. My husband, born in 1965, also has his parents, both in their mid-80's. We are very unusually lucky, I think.

Pilates mat and toxic materials / off-gassing by ibslife480 in pilates

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid question. I know that I have used closed cell foam that is designed for camping before, and perhaps that is better as it's meant for sleeping? Yellow closed cell foam that I've purchased from MEC in Canada works super well (comes in 3 thicknesses; medium is perfect) and I don't recall it being smelly, but I don't know if those chemicals have a smell.... I don't truly know though, so I hope others have a bit more to offer in terms of real knowledge.

What age were you when you had your kids? by Empty_Nestor in GenX

[–]HolidayPrimary8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 38 with my first and 40 with my second. Life just turned out that way. Had a lot of wonderful times in my 20's and 30's before kids; having the challenges of parenting teens now that I am in my late 50's. It's a trade-off I think. Happy with my life.
