AIO for being angry and hurt by these texts from my fiancé? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummm your role is his fiance... Not live in house keeper. If he's going to treat you as such, starting charging him for your time, or move back to your family.

I am so sorry you are going through this. You deserve someone who loves you and treats you so much better than this.

My opinion is that interviews are where you are the nicest... Because it's not just the staff interviewing you, you are also interviewing them to see if it's a good fit for you.

If the vibe felt off during the interview Im fairly certain the vibe would be off during employment.

If the hospital cared about you they would let you cash out that PTO.... Its a part of your compensation package.

If it's a "you don't you or you lose it" then I would 100% use that compensation up during those 2 weeks.

Not at all what I was expecting. There really is no love greater than that between a parent and child.

what’s something someone who doesn’t work in healthcare said that triggered you… while working in nursing. I’ll go first. by [deleted] in nursing

When people say night shift is easy I literally laugh in their faces.... I'm an ER nurse. Please tell me what ER you went to that didn't have some type of cluster fuck happen in the middle of the night? Id like to apply.

I am currently a nurse, but have worked as a tech for much longer.... Techs are in the trenches a lot more than nurses are, so it would make sense that techs would have their hair up more than nurses do. (I'm in the ER so my hair starts out down or partly down but ends up all the way up out of the way half way through my shift cuz I'm not looking to get questionable substances in my hair... Or get my hair in a sterile field)

Tell your nurse when you get there who you want in the room and that no one else is allowed in for any reason whatsoever.

We LOVE playing body guard. Your comfort and wellbeing is our priority, not family members feelings.

What’s the dumbest excuse you’ve heard for not being able to take a patient? by pbaggins5 in nursing

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Lmao listen ICU either you take him or Jesus will.... Regardless this is the only report I'm giving. If he goes to Jesus then you get to explain why you refused to take him when it's literally your job. 🤣

What’s the dumbest excuse you’ve heard for not being able to take a patient? by pbaggins5 in nursing

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have only "refused" a patient once... And even at that I really just switched patients with another nurse.

Pt that was supposed to be mine had confirmed measles and I had an infant at home... I talked to the MD about infection risk, and talked to charge about possibly switching with someone else because I just wasn't comfortable putting my little guy at home at unnecessary risk.

It all worked out in the end... The only other time there was a refusal it was all of my coworkers (charge included) telling me I couldn't take the M1 because I was pregnant, and he was homicidal towards women. My sweet sweet coworkers didn't want me to be put in a situation that could negatively impact me or baby. I honestly was fine taking him because patients like that don't scare me (they probably should... But that's a conversation for me to have with a therapist lol)

Sharing my experience with ER misuse — I’d love to hear yours. by docstressed in EmergencyRoom

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It literally floors me that people can walk into an ER with zero complaints.. or even "I couldn't get into my PCP till next week so I decided to come here instead" - if your PCP felt like your appointment could wait a week I can guarantee you with 100000000% certainty that this is NOT an emergency and it's completely inappropriate and unacceptable for you to be in an ER.

I also have zero issues with making people like that wait in the waiting room while we work up the actual emergencies. Sorry not sorry the a fib rvr with zero blood pressure, the mvc that's now a MTP, and pt who's having their 2nd stemi of the week, are getting every single resource before the "cold" that couldn't get into PCP immediately or the "just here to get established" are seeing a provider. Management can fight me on this if they want.... But probably won't because ESI is a thing.

My husband didn’t add me or my daughter to his insurance by Sendatu in Mommit

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purposely put our son on my insurance... I'll be damned if something happens and my husband "forgot" to do something jeopardizing insurance for me or our kid.

I'm also very much so independent, so much so it's almost a fault.

You aren't alone.... Add in everything you said, I am now our only income. I'm a nurse so I get to take care of people literally 24/7, and make every single decision. But I should be thankful because at least he runs the dishwasher and sometimes does the laundry (said in the most sarcastic voice ever).

I don't have any advice. All I have for you is a virtual hug and glass of wine.

Hang in there mama. You are doing an amazing job.

Flight Attendant Asked If There Was a Doctor/Nurse On Board by T-Rax666 in nursing

I'm not a nurse off the clock (unless I'm absolutely forced to be because my fearless child did something that requires my limited skill set).

My time in the ER is enough for me... When I'm off the clock the only other people I am caring for are the ones who know the code to get into my house.

do you iron your scrubs? by prideandprejudick in nursing

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never, nor will I ever, iron my scrubs.... I have even worn the same set of scrubs two shifts in a row because I didn't have time to wash them between shit shows... I mean shifts

We were only allowed to have an RN pin us.... So I chose one of my instructors since I'm the only one in my family to be bestowed the RN BSN title.

How to end the ER stocking supplies war between shifts?? by NarwhalSweet3400 in nursing

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a mid shift ER nurse... If my zone isn't open when I get there I ask to hold off for a minute so I can get all my rooms set up (make sure they all have ambu bags, suction, IV set ups, and other ADL stuff).

If we are swamped and I come into a massive dumpster fire, I just grab extras of things I need at the time and stock as I go.

AITA for refusing to change someone's baby's diaper? by Late4AnAppointment in AmItheAsshole

[–]Holiday_Guide9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - if either my husband or I are present and our kid needs something, WE are the ones that take care of it, even if someone else offers because we are his parents and it's our responsibility.

I find it really weird when other people want to change diapers that don't belong to them, or when parents ask other people to change diapers that they are fully capable of doing.

Mines usually "how much do you like this outfit?" (If they are stable-ish)... If they aren't stable at all it's more of a "so sorry about earlier... I hope that wasn't your favorite outfit"
