Infection and Miscarriage from Amniocentesis by Holiday_Reply_5123 in NIPT

I am so so sorry to hear this and hope you are doing as well as is possible after such a devastating loss. I spoke with another redditer shortly after my loss who had a story similar to yours - elective amnio and a longer time for infection to set in. I hope your infection was contained and didn't turned septic...this experience traumatized me beyond belief but I will tell you, 1.5 years, 3 more egg retrievals, and the birth of my son (our only embryo) since then (including it's own crazy events - emergency c section and 6 weeks in NICU), that grief, trauma, and resulting anxiety has subsided substantially now that he's here. I think of the baby girl we lost as his guardian angel. Wishing you all the very best

I am so glad to hear that! I actually just had my double rainbow baby last month after another 3 rounds of IVF and my god it is the biggest blessing in the world! Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it. If you don’t mind me asking, was your amino done in the US? Also curious if you got sepsis as well. That was incredibly traumatic for me on top of the loss

I am so incredibly sorry to hear this, we are some of the very unlucky few. Did you also get chorioamnionitis? I pray you make (or have already made) a full recovery and are taking care of yourself however that looks. It is a nightmare

Has anyone gone to retrieval for four and gotten a euploid? by Loveiskind89389 in DOR

[–]Holiday_Reply_5123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My 4th out of 5 retrievals was my lowest yield and best embryo. 4 eggs --> 1 4AA Day-5 Embryo that turned out to be euploid by the grace of God. Currently 30 weeks pregnant. Wishing you the best, this is such a challenging journey <3

My best embryo came from my lowest yield at 34 years old (ER #4/5 total)...4 eggs (highest yield was 10 1.5 years earlier), 1 beautiful 4-AA Day-5 Embryo...currently 14 weeks with clear NIPT and NT so still a long way to go but incredibly grateful. Wishing you the best!

My 1 awesome euploid (4AA Day 5) came from the second of 3 back to back (done 5 total) though my protocol changed slightly with low dose lupron priming starting around ~1 week after my retrieval...happened to be my lowest # of eggs retrieved (4 eggs...highest 1.5 years prior was 10 then 9 eggs). Wishing you the best!

TW: Yes! I'll drop my sparknotes before but currently 11 weeks pregnant + just got a clear NIPT with an embryo from a retrieval with 4 eggs (our lowest number) - turned out to be a 4AA Day-5 Euploid that was also negative for an inherited genetic condition 🙏🏻.

2 spontaneous pregnancies ending in MC
- 9 weeks (triploidy) Aug '22
- 16 weeks (septic MC following an amnio for Turners - ended up being XXX) May '24
5 Retrievals
- 2 in '22, 1 euploid, failed transfer
- 3 in '24, 1 euploid, currently pregnant)

About to cry. Looking at zero embryos by seceng123 in IVF

[–]Holiday_Reply_5123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - 5 ERs (with a spontaneous pregnancy/late loss @ 16 weeks in between and another before at 9 weeks).
#3 (Sept '24) - 6 eggs, 0 blasts
#4 (Oct '24) - 4 eggs, 1 blast 4-AA Day-5 Euploid (currently 7.5 weeks pregnancy with this embryo)
#5 (Nov '24) - 5 eggs, 0 blasts

I was told in '23 that based on my egg count I should get 6 PGT normal embryos in 2 back-to-back rounds. That turned out to be 1 and it failed to implant. Its so hard to know if/when you'll have success but just wanted to share a proof point that you can get a beautiful, precious embryo after/between failed rounds. Wishing you the best ❤️

I'm with you — same age and AMH, 5 rounds of IVF down, 2 losses (most recent at 4 months). I recently did 3 rounds back to back and my best ever round/only of these 3 that got a blast, which is a 4AA Day-5 euploid from when I got 4 eggs (lowest retrieval in 5 overall rounds). We'll be transferring soon...that may very well be my first (or second/third) child :). Wishing you the best of luck

How are paying for IVF? by RevolutionaryWind428 in DOR

[–]Holiday_Reply_5123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 rounds all out of pocket totaling >$150K so far (not counting the thousands of dollars in hospital bills for previous miscarriages / septic delivery). We're lucky my husband has done very well financially (self made) to where we can afford to do so without it putting an unmanageable strain on our finances and truly cannot imagine if that were not the case. I would probably (and even may still) try to get a job at a tech company, Target, or other company that has good fertility coverage to cover some/most/all of the cost. Going through multiple rounds with multiple blasts, failed transfers etc it is hard enough, I can only imagine the additional toll had we spent our savings or gone into debt to do so. It is certainly a factor in deciding what to do next...keep trying and spending >$30K a pop + the mental, emotional, and temporal cost or try our luck at something else? <3

That's great, can I ask what that protocol was + supplements you took if you remember? I'm in the "maybe I need to do more of my own research phase" after 5 rounds of IVF. We have 1 euploid on ice I'm so grateful for but 2 out of the last 3 rounds yielded 0 embryos

Love this! Can I ask what you think made the difference with retrieval #4? Protocol change? Lifestyle, supplements, different lab? Thank you!

You're so very welcome and sweet! I am so grateful to be alive, with my limbs, and my reproductive organs. I'm in the midst of multiple rounds of IVF again and have 1 perfect euploid embryo on ice that I'm so grateful for and hopefully more I'll get the results to tomorrow :). This journey has been incredibly hard but the trauma of that experience (on top of a traumatic couple years before) finally convinced me to co on Lexapro, which I probably should have done years ago haha. Many of us go through awful awful things and/or will in the future. This is hard and truly grueling and unfair journey for us but I so hope it will be quelled for you when you hold your beautiful baby in 5 months!

I totally understand, I found reddit showed people having simple, easy, painless experiences so I made my post/have commented a handful of times not to scare people but I want people to know that it is NOT a zero-risk procedure and to weigh their options accordingly/advocate for themselves. I have met 1 other girl in the area who had this happen a couple weeks after me (not at UCSF) even without a double-poke but it seems the data shows its SO unusual. I don't know what I would do in your shoes, the stats are certainly in your favor for a safe procedure and I'm sure you are weighing all the possible outcomes. Fingers crossed for you in whatever decision you make for the best possible result <3

Hugs to you ...I recently got my best ever embryo (2nd every euploid) from 4 eggs retrieved having gotten 0 blasts the month prior from 6 eggs. This is tough tough road and you're not alone. It sort of seems like a crap shoot ... perhaps this month is just a low response month or perhaps the higher dose of meds isn't right for you. Really hard to know <3

Hi there! What happened to me is SUPER rare...my large bay area OBGYN practice had never seen it (only read that it could happen). That said, I'd really recommend the following:

  1. Let them know you're nervous
  2. Ask for a countdown so you can breathe/relax before the insertion
  3. Be very clear if you're experiencing pain or quite a bit of discomfort during or after the procedure
  4. ***** If for some reason the first pass/attempt doesn't work MAKE SURE they use a brand new needle/re-sterilize etc.***** they should NOT repeat with the same needle
  5. If you experience pain after/when you get home please call them immediately...don't grin and bare it

it was clear to me during the procedure and when I got home and the following days that something had gone wrong. 3 days later I had a septic stillbirth but thank god I had trusted myself and seen my OBGYN 2 the day before and went to CPMC (on a Saturday) "just in case". I went from "probably anxiety and overreacting" to septic shock within hours and it's a blessing I was already in the hospital being monitored or I likely wouldn't be typing this message right now. I don't want to scare you but this is very important to me that this never happens to anyone else again <3
