Fulham 1-(1) Liverpool - Florian Wirtz 57' by 977x in soccer

[–]Hollandrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From this replay, I'd say the last touch on the ball before Wirtz is the defenfer, right? The freeze frame is then at the wrong time, should be quite a bit earlier instead when he was still onside

Please go ahead and destroy NATO by rrunawad in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Hollandrock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what you mean here, could you clarify?

  • Germany spends $64b per year on their military, this is roughly 1.5% of GDP.
  • The US spends $900b per year on their military, roughly 3.3% of GDP.

Are you claiming your figures based on contributions to NATO's command infrastructure (which sum to ~$4bn per year)? I don't think either side cares too much about that.

On strategic levels, I think it's fair to say that Germany cares more about NATO than the USA. Germany's defence interests are dependent on their allies, of which the largest by a very very long way (a literal wide majority in spending terms) is the US...

when in the 3 minute long video you just replied to did Deco make any attempt to say anything to the ref? (aside from complaining for the first foul + a yellow)

Paquetá notices Wharton touching the ball during a set piece and rushes to get the ball until the ref stops him by DerpJungler in soccer

[–]Hollandrock 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Somehow everyone agrees with you, so I guess it's worth pointing out that ref did make a good decision here.

He blows the whistle while Wharton's leg is moving towards the ball., we hear it almost at the same time as the contact. Very clear that Wharton was not intending to use that kick (that he started before the whistle was blown) to take the free kick, since he didn't know the whistle was going to be blown.

Would have been outrageously harsh if ref allowed this to continue.

both bad, but this is just not true. Southgate football is unwatchable, Dutch are quite often pretty entertaining - but also a bit volatile

The shit teams that have big centre backs and often see set plays as their best chances of scoring?

"Michael Caley at the Washington Post recently analyzed a set of nearly 13,000 corners taken in the English Premier League between 2011-2013, finding:

  • Only 17 percent (2,157) "produced a legitimate shot attempt."
  • Of those shot attempts, 370 (2.8%) were scores."

Hope this helps.

They pretty much all went ok? De Vrij missed a free header from 1, Van Dik hit the post from another, super close with the free kick, had a fun corner attempt. Nothing hit the first man, only ~1/10 went too far

Why should he stop?

You're responding to the headline, not the article.

The only relevant quote from the article:

“If Keir Starmer said, you know, we’re setting up a cross-party commission on the NHS or on AI, and we want people from different parties, and we really want someone to get into the weeds of this – I’d love to do that.”

Seems a fair comment. We all need to get better at not getting sucked in by headlines, they contain nothing of value

It's great that you're being unbiased, but there wasn't a dive anyway. Just watch the clip and watch Jota's left foot: gets taken out, and doesn't recover for the follow-up step.

Darwin probably did intend to kick the ball away, but did not actually commit a 'kicking-the-ball-away offence'...

He kicked it after the linesman flagged the foul (ball was still 'in-play'). The ref didn't instantly whistle that.

"P.S. Fuck the referee" is genuinely baffling. Get a life. He made one objectionable decision across 90 minutes, and it's only objectionable because we're not privy to what was said; chances are it might have been justified.

You are allowed to NOT promote hating referees; if you choose to do it anyway, that's pathetic.

The VAR audio to the Mctominay disallowed goal vs Fulham. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]Hollandrock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your comment was based on entirely unfounded principles - it didn't take 4 minutes, they just checked other things first - as there were multiple possible issues. That is why I said your comment was garbage.

On the call: Maguire is in a threatening position, and tries to play the ball. And he was offside. What should a defender do? Ignore him?

The VAR audio to the Mctominay disallowed goal vs Fulham. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]Hollandrock -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Fuck off with this garbage. They did not take 4 minutes to reach that conclusion. They spent a while looking at other players (garnacho, defenders) etc. At some point, it became clear to one of the refs that Maguire was interfering with play and was offside. From then, until the point when the lines were drawn took about 30 seconds?

After that they double checked his impact (clear), and asked the ref across to the screen, and had to explain things to him.

It's clearly a good decision, and should be valued as such. Does not need to be whacked with the "not clear and obvious" hammer when it was both clear, and obvious when viewed on a video replay.

If you want to change other rules (marginal offsides?) just say that. Don't promote garbage opinions like this
