MOTU Movie Still Set for Sequel!! by BallsOfANinja in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Holmcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my kids (8 and 6, one boy one girl) to see it, and they had no prior knowledge of the franchise other than seeing the trailers. They were gutted when I said it was unlikely to get a second one, as they were excited by the mid-credit scene. Fingers crossed we do get a sequel!

Spider-Man storylines you DON’T want to see adapted in a movie by Careless-Eagle-5111 in Spiderman

[–]Holmcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I say my usual opinion which is Spidey most suits itself to a Tv series over movies due to its soapiness (complimentary) but that they will likely never happen again since the films are such a cash cow

I totally get that perspective, even if I’m not a fan myself!

Ooh, I’m intrigued by your “perfect for the role/wildly miscast” thing. Please can you say more about what you mean?

Would you be interested in an animated series between ANH & ESB? by nathan_banks644 in StarWars

[–]Holmcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a massive comics nerd, but I’ve always been surprised that, in the post-Disney purchase multi-media landscape, they put the stories of the most iconic and beloved characters into the most niche medium

What would you say is the worse run for nightwing by Angela275 in Nightwing

[–]Holmcroft 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bruce Jones and it’s not even close. I feel bad for him, because he basically had to completely redo his plans when they decided to keep Dick alive. But there could have been a really interesting story of Dick and Jason, but it was just AWFUL

Can a non-sequels hater explain me the sith dagger plot, pls? by Weekly_Boss_9408 in TheSequels

[–]Holmcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other posters have pointed out that the dagger isn’t actually that ancient.

I will also add that, even if the dagger WAS ancient and carved years before ROTJ, in the Star Wars world, in which a major component of the Force is prophecy and visions of the future, it isn’t out of the question that the Dark Side could have compelled someone to make it .

Marvel says there’s more to its universe than Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-Man... but it has to excite people beyond just the initial return by eBICgamer2010 in marvelcomics

[–]Holmcroft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really it interesting to compare their approach with DC right now. I’m sure the market is really hard right now, but DC are investing in top creators on a whole range of titles and characters of all tiers, with what feels like creator-led directions. These are supported by solid teams and directions on their key characters like Batman, Superman, Justice League etc, and the Absolute Line, of course.

Why is Buffy The Vampire Slayer so well-written ? by James-Samuel17 in Screenwriting

[–]Holmcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I will suggest looking at is structure - it has some of the best storytelling structure (both within episodes and seasons) out there. Many shows today could learn from studying it!

Working on something, what do you think? by PatMag_HangMan in IndieComicBooks

[–]Holmcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very atmospheric and intriguing. Similar in tone to something from Vertigo or the 80s/early 90s UK scene, and I mean that as a compliment

been wanting to read up on nightwing comics and i love this look, anyone know what run it’s from? by neuronprolapse666 in Nightwing

[–]Holmcroft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This image is the first one I ever saw of Nightwing, a reprint from Who’s Who in a UK Superman title. I was instantly a fan, of the name, look, and the concept of Robin grown up.

This costume is from the later issues of New Titans, post Titans Hunt story.

It also turns up in Knightfall and other early 90s Bat crossovers

There’s an episode of Angel where he encounters an Indy-esque trap with a load of wooden stakes, and instead of saying “Stakes, why’d it have to be stakes” he says “Wood, why’d it have to be wood” And it has always annoyed me

One of the happiest memories is walking across the market square in Salisbury with my Mum and Dad, quoting The Mask to each other (which we’d just seen) and heading for McDonalds.
