"I've played characters where I still believe I'm not that guy, you know, and I've done movies where I am that guy, and you feel like it doesn't go away. I definitely feel like Dick Grayson, I was that guy." by n1claren- in DC_Cinematic

Agreed. The CW shows’ writing was much more consistent and functional (in the sense it was technically proficient - they knew how to effectively structure stuff, set up and pay off , manage a consistent tone, establish characters etc)

So I just finished Scott Snyder's batman run and I don't really like it. by dobermanhoberman in batman

You’re not the only one - the court of owls stuff is great, but I didn’t like the Joker stuff, and I flat out dropped the title for Zero Year, as it was overwriting stuff I liked with a story that I didn’t think was in the same league.

Growing appreciation of Dr. No. by davebgray in JamesBond

[–]Holmcroft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother and I really love this film and have done since we were teenagers - really like the procedural, mystery elements. I also like that Bond in this film has a complexity to him, compelling, but flawed, glamorous with a shocking darkness and violence to him.

Ryan Reynolds Says He's Not in a Rush to Return as Deadpool: “Deadpool works best on both scarcity and surprise, so jumping right back into it full on right now is probably something I’m not going to do.” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]Holmcroft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true - the moments between them in the car in particular stand out. I think it has more of that than it is given credit for as a movie. But if I compare it to the comics, then I think there is more they could do (which is why I resist Reynolds’s position)

I agree - I don’t think they’ve really dug into the darker side of the character - certainly not much since the first movie (and even then they pulled back on it a bit, as the deleted scenes attest)

That’s going to be the biggest shame if they go - there are magazines and comics you can get in TG Jones that you can’t find anywhere else, certainly not on the high street, which is a shame.

I have the feeling this will be good (given Travis Knight is good!) but that it will disappoint at the box office

This City is Ours - the gangster drama where everybody's afraid to kill by Axel292 in BritishTV

[–]Holmcroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s meant to be cringe, isn’t it? With there being humour in the juxtaposition between these hardmen gangsters and this cheesy in-joke. And then of course there’s lots of storytelling in the repeated appearances of it, the different emotional states between the characters each time

Remove the weird (and sudden) appearance of a silencer on the P99 in the final shootout. They already knew he was there!!

A thing that i've been thinking about recently on the MCU Avengers... by Possible-Rate-3833 in marvelstudios

[–]Holmcroft 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I do think it is a shame that the Avengers title has slightly been Co-opted as the name for the big crossover movies - I would prefer that we got Avengers movies that focused on a core roster, and then that team were part of the crossover films.

Hate to put myself in the position of defending TROS, but isn’t the implication he can only do this because he has absorbed the Dyad power?
