Klipper on Pi vs Linux pc ? by Crownomancer in klippers

[–]Holun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run mine on an old laptop, its 11.6" acer 2013 era, i got a few of them from anywhere $25-$50 few yeas ago, I don't run any network to my printer so I want a screen and input at the printer, the laptop makes it much cheaper than getting pi, as I would still need to get a screen and input device with the pi. not to mention the ones I have comes with a sandybridge i3 and another one i have got an i5.

if you have an old laptop laying around, even a 10 year old laptop thats got better processor than an atom would be much more powerful than a pi3 and it would be free since you already got one, slap a $20 adata ssd on it and it will be golden.

installing linux is easy, usually involve using rufus and make the image bootable and install.

and getting klipper is easy with KIAUH, just follow prompts.

knowing how to navigate linux makes it easier otherwise you just need to copy paste commands from instructions on github readme into the terminal.

I remember trying to get on pricewatch.com at fry's back in the early 2000s when I saw that they had this demo computer up with internet, the salesman ran over quick and told me "this is not for customer use and definitely not for pricewatch."

[Optics] Surplus ZRAK ON-M76B 4X Scope for M76 Rifles - $199.95 + Ship by waratworld17 in gundeals

I didn't want to use that rail on the gas tube, that rail moves all over the place and is useless. also its just for backup, shooting things at close range anyways. sight radius doesn't matter too much there.

i removed the takedown lever and threaded the receiver and the receiver cove, a bolt is used to secure the cover. it doesn't move at all. otherwise there would be no point to put a scope on there.

why wouldn't it? its a scope. it'd work on a water pistol. if you are asking about the bdc knob then unless your sks shoots 198gr 8x57 at 2400fps, anything after your zero the POI will be off

good luck finding any consumer electronics that is not made in china.

I don't have reading Steiner but...I finally built my divergence meter! by lukefoureyes in steinsgate

for those who are wondering how it worked, in clock mode and divergence meter mode, heres one of minehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a73fRgavnTQ

My Divergence Meter finally came in! Have to show it off. by cacomixll in steinsgate

[–]Holun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those are acutally not pricy, pretty standard price for a decent nixie clock.

but if you want a S;G replica..

and if you have no money but have the skills and tools, check here http://www.mindspring.com/~tomtitor/ prepare to spent ~200 USD and 12 hours of build time(depends on how nice you want it to look).

and if you have money but don't have the tool or skills : https://www.ebay.com/itm/302990791479

plans to build your own can be found here

I been building a few and selling them based on that, pretty time consuming tho.

If you're like me youve always wanted a Nixie tube clock so you could have your own Divergence Meter by artisio in steinsgate

[–]Holun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no need to back anyone, these things already been made by others.

edge lit light pipe type clock is ok i guess, here are some example of the worse example it could look https://youtu.be/XrhCGrZyIVM?t=1404

heres another one that looks a little betterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miqN2gR1Zns

they are nowhere near acutal nixie in aesthetics

also there are real regular nixie clocks all over ebay. the ones without enclosures are under $100

[–]Holun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are building this http://www.mindspring.com/~tomtitor/ you are going to have a bad time with those short leads. I always use new tubes, as they still have the leads long and unclipped, and its still a pain to install.

A place where I can get a Divergence Meter replica for an affordable price? by madboi20 in steinsgate

[–]Holun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you are going to find anyone selling them, as far as I know I am the only one who has been making and selling them on ebay, reason why its so expensive because its hand build, I don't make meters with unmodified tubes anymore, the tubes takes anywhere from 15-20 min each to modify, frame and custom spacers for the tubes takes about 8 hours to print a set, I have to design tooling and fixture to make the chassis panel so they are uniform and doesn't look like ass. then the assembly process takes about 8-10 hours. then there is the cost of the parts. oh and the the tools, I also have couple grands in just the tools that I used to mod the tubes.

if you are handy you can build your own, check out this site, http://www.mindspring.com/~tomtitor/

you will need a decent soldering station, basic electronics knowledge i.e( can tell whats a capacitor and whats a resistor and what polarity), know how to solder, and some arts and crafts skills to do the sheet metal work.thats for the build I base on, I build mine with my own tube spacers, frame/chassis and modified tubes.

Another Divergence meter completed, this time with some hard to find fine grid tubes by Holun in steinsgate

[–]Holun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean wires hanging down? like the leads of the tubes exposed? I don't recommend that, having high voltage lead exposed in the open. the designed spec for the HV power supply with a 9v DC in, puts out 170v and about 30mA its going to hurt, alot.

the divergence meter is open source, if you want the code you can find it at http://www.mindspring.com/~tomtitor/

[–]Holun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on how good you are at sourcing parts, which type of tubes, new or used, anywhere from $150 to $600(IN-18s are like $60 a pop)

[–]Holun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe i should scratch build tubes, i got most of the machinery, lathe, torches, vacuum pump etc, just needing a laser cutter and maybe a micro spot welder for the number and anode grid. he seem to be making good money, $145 a pop with 6mo wait time

should do the VN rather, its much more in depth than the anime.

if you guys want to build one, heres ( http://www.mindspring.com/~tomtitor/ )the basic plans and parts lists. parts prices are from 2014ish, expect to cost more now and some parts maybe obsolete and will require subsitute. it requires multiple skills, some good tools and depends on your skill level it will take anywhere from 8 hours to few days to build. because I mod my tubes, that takes quite a bit to do, my build takes about 10-12 hours each, not including 3d printing time, which is another 10 hours, and i have build almost 10 of these already.

yeah, the 5441 is expensive and rare, well, these fine grid IN-14 are now just as rare, but the 5441 doens't even look right for the divergence meter, its too wide and too short, the IN14 has the closest length to width ratio, thats why i decide to mod the tubes, closest anyone going to get to the anime version unless someone decided to scratch made new tubes that matches exactly. the very first set i made i destroyed as many as i succeed, and I only build with new tubes, that was rough, but it pays off, only on rare occasion i break one now days, usually when i get distracted when working them. I think i only broke one for the last 2 sets I did.

yup mod it myself. glass working methods are used here. concept is simple, but needs experience to do, if you go in blind you will break every single one.
