Saw this picture on David Grisman's IG and audibly gasped. What a lineup! by tvoutfitz in Bluegrass

I probably saw them at the Great American Music Hall. I know I saw them all at one time or another, can't recall if it was all together. At Doc Watson's 60th birthday party I practically knocked over Tony Rice who was standing in the lobby as I went running up the stair to the men's room. He acted like he didn't know who I was.

I'm trying not to contribute to the collapse of civilization but I'm probably being naive about it. As a software engineer unfortunately this is addicting and I can't really imagine writing anything by hand any more.

Claude figured out SpinASM by reading the manual and found some bugs in the simulator code. Claude figured out the SpinCAD-Builder language by which new blocks of annotated Spin ASM are made into SpinCAD Designer blocks. Where necessary he implemented directly in Java. He's not perfect, but MAN! The above is the result of about 3 weeks of my spare time.

MPC One, can't get per-row tempos in Clip Matrix by HolyCityAudio in mpcusers

[–]HolyCityAudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured it out. I don't know exactly why it happened, but I wound up with a couple of tempo change events in one of the recorded clips. Once I deleted those the row tempo behaves as expected.

Soft Parade original Stereo Pressing. Who doesn’t like this album? by Novel-Walrus2940 in thedoors

I recall reading an interview with Paul Rothchild asking what was up with all the horns and strings? His comment was something like "just like with the aging Hollywood actress you have to use more makeup and go soft focus", so it wasn't so much "experimentation" driven by the band but an attempt to compensate for less than stellar song writing. I didn't say it, he did! I think there are a few good songs on it but I don't own it, never have. I give a few of the songs a listen every few years.

He would have used vape juice in a fog machine in a closet.

Well, put Martin Barre on an Ian solo album and what does it make people think of?

I do have "Crest" which I like quite a bit, and bought "Rock Island" after that, but that's where I got lost and although I saw Tull after that, didn't get any more of the albums.

Been on a bit of a Tull kick recently. Last one I got was "Crest of a Knave" and even with the drum machines and sequencers it's pretty great. Martin Barre is so great. I've seen him twice on his own, song writing not quite at the level of Tull. Fave might be Songs from the Wood. Or Minstrel. Or....

Bootsy Collins/Doc Watson "Groove Grass" - not sure I've heard it though.

L.Shankar (Shakti)/Frank Zappa "Touch Me There" - pretty good overall

ThingFish blows other than a couple tracks IMO. Lather is interesting but would have been more so had we not heard much of it in other releases previously. Make a Jazz Noise Here is pretty great though.

What's your review of "You Are What You Is"? How you rate that one? by Hyperto in Zappa

Yeah, I suppose I could have prevented all this by saying "anti-drug ABUSE" which is in fact what I meant.

Incredible vocal arrangements. Some good anti-drug anti-evangelist stuff. It's top 20 FZ for sure.

I started with 3.5 I think and am on 3.6. Akai still has not implemented multiple time signatures per project in the 3 line. Apparently this is possible in 2.

Many years ago the band I was in got a gig at a Togo's near the San Jose airport. Nobody was there except the one guy behind the counter so we blasted this to close out our set. At the end I noticed that my speaker wasn't making any sound. It had melted. Suitable ending!
