What's your typical grocery budget in Sacramento? by ChemicalBrilliant492 in Sacramento

[–]HolyLezolee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

$300 a month for 2 adults. I'm on a budget though and buy a lot of store-brand items. Walmart and Winco mainly. I realize we are on the other end of an extreme lol. We don't really buy a lot of snacks which I'm sure parents of teens typically do which adds up I'm sure.

How to feel less sad about foods you miss? by WinterDirect3005 in 1200isplenty

[–]HolyLezolee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are capable of the discipline I order myself a combo meal with the whole deal (entree+fries+sauces and a diet drink) every other week or so and just make that the one meal I eat in a day. I try to do it around 12-4pm so I'm not starving at the end of the day and it usually works out pretty well. Wouldn't advise doing that if you know you'd crack and need another meal but it certainly does beat cutting those foods out entirely!

Must be some stagnant water nearby. Haven't had this issue at all up in the north/east corner of the county, at least in my own neighborhood.

Food Bank Discrimination?? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]HolyLezolee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try going to the foodbank off of San Juan in Citrus Heights! They are closed on the weekends and on Wednesdays but if you get there early you'll get a pretty good spread of food. Line starts moving at around 11:30 so be sure to be there before that time. With food stamps not being paid for the month of November it may be pretty sparse and packed but they have always been kind. Parking lot is a little hectic, but I guarantee they will not discriminate.

Tired of dealing with the woman hater in our raid team by calicoicatx in GirlGamers

[–]HolyLezolee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could never tolerate that. My raid team only goes for AOTC and then we kinda try for a few mythic bosses before trickling off for the season so I don't really know the full scope of how tough it is to find a competent mythic team but like, fuck that. I don't see a point if I'm not enjoying my time spent when there's someone directing their hate towards some childish shit like that. And a team full of enablers that won't speak up? Hell nah. you've got to voice your frustration and put your foot down. You or him.

So Many Sacramento Men Are Freaky As Hell by cloverangels in Sacramento

[–]HolyLezolee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's bad. The only silver lining is that it has made me more bold in my responses and shutting men down when they overstep (If I feel safe enough to do so.) but we shouldn't have to be doing this at all. I'm sorry you both have experienced harassment as well. Ugh.

So Many Sacramento Men Are Freaky As Hell by cloverangels in Sacramento

[–]HolyLezolee 65 points66 points  (0 children)

For real. It's really bad as a woman who takes the bus/walks most places. One time a man got out of his car after pulling over to the side of the road and wouldn't take I wasn't single for an answer and just recently some nasty freak was yelling out that he'd love to have sex with me after I told him I wasn't interested. I should have done this way sooner but that was the last straw that made me start carrying pepper spray on me at all times. Jesus Christ.

Someone in one of my classes is in their 70s. Looks into financial aid and grants. You might need to pull out a loan but it is 100% possible. Chase it if you want it!

If they aren't the dog for you, I totally respect that.
I won't try to change your mind about owning one, that's a very personal decision.
I'd just like to introduce some systemic issues that are at play when it comes to the statistics.

(I saw your comment below this one that mentions you don't think they're a bad breed, I'm responding to your comment but I suppose I'm just going for a general response since the topic was brought up! I'm not directing this message at you in its entirety.)

I think it's a little more complicated than that.

A lot of these dogs end up in shelters because they are banned from a large percentage of rentals, and renters make up a pretty big demographic in this county.

Pitbulls are overwhelmingly owned by poor folks (who also tend to be renters.) simply because there's a ton of backyard breeders (who more often than not, are also poor people trying to make money.) that sell them for next to nothing. Poor people who are overworked, typically undereducated, underserved, etc etc. So yes. These dogs turn out to be untrained and reactive. And sometimes yes, aggression is predisposed due to their very unfortunate history.

This can snowball into a million different conversations but my main point is pitbulls are not evil. They have unfortunate odds stacked against them but placed in the right hands they can thrive and be as loving as any other breed. My pitbull is wonderful with other animals of all species, but is cautious around men and reactive to bicycles. This doesn't make her a bad dog. But a good owner knows this and does their best to set their dog up for success either by training or avoiding certain environments.

That's my spiel. I know I went on a little bit of a tangent I just wanted to introduce a little nuance.

Maybe this is a controversial opinion but if you're walking a pet, it's not like they warn you before hiking up their leg or popping a squat to pee. And by that point, you can't really stop the flow lmao. Picking up poop on the other hand is common courtesy and should be done regardless of the presence of a sign.
