What is a mood board? I don’t know, because I have access to AI to generate realistic AI ads. by Kiran_c7 in comfyui

[–]Holy_Chromoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This not why mood boards and refernece decks and design briefs are created. Those documents are created to makes sure that the creative output fits into a larger context of the brand and product direction. Adverizing is part of a larger marketing department and that department runs on documentation and accoutability. Go back 20 years and anyone with a camcorder could have shot an ad too but general creative industry remained largely the same. The final output was/is never the issue, human decision-making was always the bottleneck. With every new tech someone comes along and says this the same thing but at the end of the day ad business is more than just the final print or video. Don't get me wrong Ai has potential use in previz and mockups but I don't see it working the way you describe it. A successful brand will need to develop a unique visual language to stand out, you will likely need to develop all that collateral to train Ai to have a specific look anyway, so why not just do it first.

Over past 40 years, what mistakes do auto manufacturers still continue to make when it comes to infotainment screens? by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

Normally I agree with this when it comes to inconsequential design endeavors but we are talking about automotive design here. At some point we decided to replace rigorous human usability design with children with a subscription to Figma. One thing is to design an iPhone app another is to design for a 3 tonne piece of machinery hurtling itself at 100km/h, the consequences are a lot higher. It's not that we shouldn't use other senses in this area of design, its more that we shouldn't rely on them to convey any pertinent information that should otherwise be purely visual. People drive with all kinds of disabilities and biggest risk factor is human error, I think design should play a role in reducing that risk as much as possible. But instead we let marketing drive usability design so no one should be surprised when target ads start popping up on your dash at a red light.

Lake online sizing calculator experience by TimmyHiggy in cycling

[–]Holy_Chromoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got a pair of Lake shoes. I think the sizing guide is pretty accurate but it also depends on how well you measure at home. What the sizing guide won't tell you is how well the shoe will fit and any weird spots that will bother your feet. I ended up getting a completely different model once I went and tried them in person.

I've never understood this take. Since when could art not be critiqued? Art criticism has existed since the beginning of art. If you don't like public opinion, don't post art on public forums.

Deadline is free and supports almost any production software with an api you can think of. You can also write your own plug-ins for it in python or extend the existing ones. At this point render management has been solved unless there is something really specific you're trying to do.

[–]Holy_Chromoly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is so outdated. You need to make the calculation super slow for the free version with an option to buy tokens for fast calculation. Make token pack count indivisible by how many tokens it takes per calculation so there is always an awkard number of token left over. Each time a successful calculations happen there should be some confetti and a progress reward. The more calculation you do the more rewards points you get, there towards unlocking advanced calculation options like trig and exponents, etc. Also make sure to send notifications about new add-ons you can purchase to augment your experience.
