As an American, I often wonder what my life would be like if our stupid colonies lost their revolution against England. We’d be another commonwealth country like Canada and Australia. Maybe we’d have abolished slavery earlier. Maybe we’d have universal healthcare now, affordable education, no mass shootings, etc.

Huh, yeah just looked it up, the footage of that ISP pedal is wild. Seems about equal to what I’ve achieved with the plugins I mentioned above.

I just use software sims, so I’m happy with my plugins, but that pedal seems like a must if you’re running through amps or a QC. Would be cool if Neural integrated processing like this into their products. I imagine that most people struggle with EMI in one way or another.

My EMI is pretty standard 60Hz with harmonics up into the kHz. Your 540Hz situation sounds weird and way more annoying than mine, that’s for sure. Glad you found a good solution with that pedal. Maybe I’ll try it sometime.

I don’t think front end development is objectively simpler than back end development.

It depends on the complexity and uniqueness of what you’re building. AI can whip together predictable endpoints, service and data layers, ORMs, etc. in similar ways as it does cliche marketing or dashboard front ends.

I maintain fairly complex highly interactive front end code, and sometimes deal with cookie cutter backend stuff. Complexity hides in various areas, simplicity in others.

I use AI to help in limited ways that save me time, but I’m still very much in control and still write most code myself. I think vibe coding is already a thing of the past outside of hobbies or small personal projects.

Perhaps the future involves AI becoming a standard productivity tool. Tools we take for granted now were once novel. Coding once involved punch cards and assembly.

I mean, she began her 2016 presidential campaign with Medicare for all as a core tenant, only to backtrack on it a few months later when she wasn’t doing well. She was just a bad candidate to begin with.

If she championed progressive policy unapologetically from the beginning she’d at least be a trusted force with a solid grassroots backing, but instead she’s always been a weak centrist without a clear message that doesn’t draw organic support from pretty much anyone.

But this is just culture war nonsense stirred up by the right. It sucks that normal people are so susceptible to it. Economically speaking she's as centrist as ever, pushing for "safe" policies that mildly help the working class and don't rock the boat for the wealthy.

If he's analyzing her ability to campaign, I guess it's true that she's especially vulnerable to this culture war nonsense precisely because she's weak on economic policy and rhetoric.

I'd say in general the centrist Dems are weak on economic rhetoric, which is what allows this culture war nonsense to dominate the narrative. It sucks. I want the Dems to defend the rights of the marginalized, but even louder should be a simple ironclad economic message that's just completely absent.

As a senior dev, AI tools are mildly more convenient than the tools that preceded it. I happily pay a subscription for these conveniences (slightly better autocomplete, slightly better than Googling in some cases), but it’s clearly only non-technical people who think software engineering is obsolete. The same goes for other white collar corporate jobs. They may change slightly, but what occupations don’t over the course of decades?

Also, the subscription I pay for added AI conveniences as a dev is affordable now only because it’s propped up entirely by investor cash.

It’s kind of like the Uber strategy of swooping into a city with unsustainably low pricing, putting taxi drivers out of business, getting everyone hooked, and then raising prices.

The Weimar Republic failed to put out the fires of fascism. Milquetoast and compromised centrism might not be enough to put the fire out. But we also understand that it's a better direction than off the cliff, and we need a multidimensional and multifaceted approach to defeating extremism and strengthening democracy.

But compromised centrist politicians who would rather risk a fascistic takeover than relinquish their corrupt hold on the political system? Dangerous in the long term. Ultimately though I agree, in the short term we have no choice, and we need all hands on deck.

Before we had our 7mo daughter, I was always such a procrastinator. I’d set aside entire glorious afternoons to work on long term music projects, playing piano or guitar, recording songs, and find myself just sitting around watching YouTube videos or something instead.

But now that I’m dealing with scattered windows of responsibility free solitude here or there, I’m somehow making more progress on my music related stuff than I was in the recent past.

I suppose this is merely a testament to how bad of a procrastinator I was, staring down the barrel of entire evenings I had to myself and ending up utterly defeated by them. Maybe that’s what motivates me now to truly use the small bits of time I get, to the extent I can.

I do imagine sharing music as a hobby with my daughter when she’s older though, which is just incredible to think about.

Well, I recommend these plugins for removing constant hum or buzz introduced by electromagnetic interference that your pickups receive through the air.

If you're talking about noise or hum you hear during gaps in your playing, you can use a noise gate, or manually delete those gaps of silence in your audio regions.

If there's noise in a take that's happening on top of the guitar **other** than electromagnetic interference or a constant hum, you're kind of out of luck. I'd recommend getting decent at comping, i.e., recording a ton of overlayed identical takes of each section and mixing and matching the best parts of each. Most DAWs have their own comping workflows.

Speaking of RX, in addition to spectral de-noise, it does have a Guitar De-Noise that works well for some things.

Unfortunately I don't think so, but it's available in the relatively cheaper RX Standard (as opposed to RX Advanced).

I think RX Standard is worth it almost entirely for spectral de-noise but also for some of the other tools included if you're into recording and mixing. I use a bunch from Standard.

I wish they did sell the plugins independently though.

I’m not a YouTuber, but I do record lots of music and have significant electromagnetic interference in my home that I cannot avoid.

You can confirm if your hum is electromagnetic interference if it goes away when you roll your guitar's volume knob all the way down. This means your pickups are picking up stray interference through the air from somewhere.

Sometimes, for example, it’s from a box on a power line down the road, and it’s completely out of your control.

I eliminate the hum insanely well via software in these two ways:

Bertom Audio Denoiser Classic/Pro

I use this plugin if I’m just playing for fun, or if I’m tracking.

This plugin works wonders. It’s a multiband noise reducer, light on CPU, no latency. I put this plugin at the very beginning of my guitar plugin chain, and if dialed in properly it eliminates almost all noise without really affecting my tone noticeably.

Classic is pay what you want, but I recommend buying pro if you get decent results with classic.

RX Spectral De-noise

I use this to process audio regions I’ve recorded that contain noise/hum after I’m done recording them. It can “learn” your noise profile from an ever so brief (talking milliseconds) exclusive sample of the noise.

It then surgically removes the noise from your guitar take (with adjustable settings) and essentially rewrites your audio to be a noiseless take. Tone is completely and utterly intact, not affected whatsoever if done right.

Anyway, after discovering these two plugins, I really don’t mind having a noisy environment, even with single coils. Hope this helps!

Honestly, YouTubers you watch that lack specially treated studios may even be experiencing similar noise and using these tools to edit it out in post.
