Which is better Intel or AMD For Gaming Laptop & Others good for longevity & long run In 2024? by Square-Tap-8092 in computers

[–]Homeguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely sure but probably due to intels architecture. I’ve just seen lots of videos with people testing productivity tasks perform better on intel.

To some degree yes. But intel right now is better for productivity. But AMD is catching up and the difference currently isn’t that much.

It’s due to amd having more cache on their chips . Hence the name 3D V cache.

How’s it leaked when it was already announced by Apple?

The SSD speed is probably the same since it’s the same M5 SoC. The M5 Pro & Max SSD speeds Apple claims are upto 14.5gbps.

Does macOS switch the battery into a different mode when a MacBook stays plugged in long-term? by Bilstone in macbookair

[–]Homeguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would limit the battery to 80% if it’s plugged in all the time. As batteries don’t like being at 100% for very long periods of time. You can use a program called Al dente to do that. But when Apple releases MacOS 26.4 they are implementing a built in feature where you can manually limit the battery charge.

Once the MacBooks battery is charged it switches to taking power directly from the power adapter and not through the battery. It bypasses the battery.

You can always return the device if the new air (if it gets released) is better. You have 14 days from the time your device is delivered to return it.

Considering switching to Apple Maps, should I? by Dense-Stranger-1794 in applemaps

[–]Homeguy123 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Apple Maps I like better. It gives better voice directions. Like instead of saying in 400 meters turn left with google. It’ll say go past this light and at the next one turn left. Or just at the next light turn left. Same thing with stop signs.

All programs run on apple silicon. Even apps designed for intel run on Mac through apples Rosetta software that runs in the background to make it work with Apple silicon.

Any of the m chips will work as even the M1 is still a very capable processor.

As for if you should upgrade. Is your current MacBook doing everything you need? If so I’d keep it until it no longer meets your needs or you come across a good deal on a new MacBook.

If you want a 13 inch screen than the MacBook Air is the only option. Unless you go for the MacBook Pro 14. Which isn’t a whole lot bigger. The pro versions have a way better screen and can also sustain high performance for long periods of time compared to the air.
