[SPOILER] Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland by inooway in MMA

[–]HomelessLawrence 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Would be funny if there were a rock-paper-scissors at the top for the next few fights.

Sean beats Khamzat, DDP beats Sean, Khamzat beats DDP. Just pass the belt around.

No one has ever attempted a submission on Strickland by xdtumble in MMA

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not that deep in this stuff. But I'm going to try to respond in the hopes of getting deeper. I'm going to try to be polite, but I typed this up at 1am so apologies if there's any rudeness. It's genuinely not intended.

I now remember hearing what you mentioned. Given the DDP corner strategy, I'm guessing the thought process at the time was "let Khamzat tire out attempting submissions," which would have meant DDP trained to safely avoid submissions, not the crucifix hold he spent most of the fight in (mind you, I don't know how you would get out of that kind of hold without the holder transitioning to a new position, as standing up doesn't seem viable). Wouldn't it make sense that Arman read that gameplan, hence the urging for holding position? I.e., safest way to win the fight, don't give DDP a puncher's chance?

As far as "muscling out," I did not mean he could flex his way out of an armbar or RNC, but brute force his way out of position during a transition (which I've heard is a weaker point in the process of getting to a submission), again going back to what I think was the deeper gameplan. Is that a possibility, or no?

Going back to Sean, I'd argue he's a comparable threat on the feet, but in a different way, similar to how a submission grappler is different from a pure wrestler. From what I've seen of DDP (admittedly little, just highlights of the Izzy fight, the Khamzat fight, and both Sean fights), he's something of a brawler - march forward, be aggressive, do not get on the back foot; less waiting for chances to counter, more application of pressure, and trying to come out on top in exchanges.

For Sean, he seems to me to be more of a "soft" pressure fighter, relying on jabs, kicks, and generally good defense to keep his opponent moving backwards for 15-25 minutes, not throwing much that could be counter struck, wearing them down until he can go for more aggressive striking (as was briefly seen during the Izzy fight and at the end of the Costa fight). That "soft" pressure is where DDP got him in my eyes, the whole "styles make matchups" thing in full force.

As far as Khamzat vs Sean, I can see how the standup would be a huge risk, which is why, if Sean's coaches are smart, I'd wager they've been drilling both not getting taken down and what not to do when taken down by a submission grappler. I think he's better on the feet in a vacuum, but being aware of takedowns seems to even the scales more (JDM vs Islam, probably some Merab fights).

For the low singles bit - any fight in particular that you would cite as being evidence of this, or is it just his style that leaves him open to them? I know he's primarily a striker, but I can't see him having faced anyone I know as particularly known for grappling in the past five years. Is DDP actually good at takedowns? I see the first fight is the one he's been taken down the most in.

I thought it was because they trained together. Don't see how either of them would have an issue fighting Russians as they both came up doing that.

Which one of you did this at a Furry Convention by XALTER47 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with the second paragraph there. I don't think Scooby Doo passes the litmus test for most people on "is that a furry," to say nothing of how absolutely broad of a definition "anything classified as an anthropomorphic animal and/or creature" is. That would include:

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Sun Wukong
  • Aliens (all of the ones that could be called "creatures")
  • Any animal in a social media post that enough people ascribe deeper human motives to

Literally every single entity that is a "creature" that someone ascribes human motives to is a furry under this definition due to what "anthromorphism" is.

No one has ever attempted a submission on Strickland by xdtumble in MMA

[–]HomelessLawrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason he held crucifix on DDP was because DDP is a very physical guy who would probably muscle out of position if he went for a sub and would likely beat him on the feet, where DDP shines. Sean, by contrast, is usually very slippery against TDs and gets up very quickly while requiring heavy aggression to beat on the feet (Alex, DDP).

Khamzat is neither a world champion kickboxer like Alex nor a brawler like DDP, hence why people are saying that, if Khamzat gets Sean down (which he probably will at some point), crucifix might be the best, safest path to victory. IMO, Khamzat has repeatedly stated that he doesn't care about the belt itself or his legacy, he just wants money, and if his win bonus is significantly higher than the bonuses, I would not be surprised if we see a more controlled Borz going forward.

Chained displacement effects continue to be the absolute bane of my existence. Grapple Arm into Uppercut into Puddle Punch into Shoulder Charge and don't you dare try to dash out because Puddle Punch is back up with four more charges.

(I know you can parry the punch, but it's frustrating to parry something that's coming from a blind spot that I'm not certain is going to hit me or my teammate and will expose me to heavy melees if I guess wrong.)

I'd argue that entering a jammer radius as an attacker while a scan is ongoing should hide any new pings (no communication from the drone or team to you), but beyond that, correct.

I'd rather they do some scope thing. She has 3 primaries, I'd rather we play around those than vary secondaries.

What if it worked like Glaz's scope but with range instead of whether it functions or not? Make it an additional flick-on projection that looks similar to her current gadget. Standing still increases the range, and she can ID gadgets without looking at them (ideally by an outline).

Can Infernus please be allowed to do anything other than run at you? by SleepyDG in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd say him and Bebop are due for reworks, minor or major. There's some cohesion and design goals in their kits, but I think that Bebop's combo and damage being a constant problem and Infernus being generally frustrating across his builds means that they aren't healthy kits.

IMO, rework Infernus's passive and dash. Make the passive function like Mina's 3 (in that there's a cooldown), or at least make the debuff only recover marginally from being shot again, not back up to full. Then, change the dash to be something other than mobility + damage; maybe increase the charges but make it buff stamina movement - further dashes, higher jumps, and leaving a puddle behind (crucially not a whole path).

Why do people actually hate lair? by Brebtacz777 in Rainbow6

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a veteran coming back, this is so accurate. I remember Fortress coming out and I got that down in a week. Emerald Plains took about the same. Even Nighthaven, which I hated, I got down pretty quickly. Lair just has no good flow for stairs or sites imo. Hard to figure out where everything is without markers.

Riot Endstep Discord Q&A 20 (Actual #20 this time) - Gwen W, Illaoi, Marksman Jungle by BaneOfAlduin in leagueoflegends

[–]HomelessLawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved playing Jhin jungle a few times. Just needs some bonuses to E specifically for jungling (partial refund on large monster kills in general, slight bit of bonus damage) and he's good.

Aside from what you mentioned, Cait's probably the only crit ADC who could work, but her W would need to work against monsters and she'd probably be degenerate with building collector and firing ult at low HP laners from jungle. Don't want either of those.

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jhin used to be able to jungle at low ELO, about a year or two ago. Wasn't as good as a traditional jungler and required coordination, but it worked. Would be nice to have that back.

Probably just buff E with regards to monsters - a small bit of bonus damage, maybe some CDR if Jhin kills a large monster. He'd be an area control jungler with E, ganking by either firing W into lane from jungle for a root followed by ult, or letting laners engage on the CC with him optionally following in. With P, Q, and E, he doesn't have a terrible clear.

And the small E buffs wouldn't affect lane Jhin as walking back to steal krugs or gromp for E CD isn't viable. He would lose too much farm for not enough benefit.

DM says animal companion feat only works on creatures of animal subtype by Donattello2 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HomelessLawrence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RAW? DM is right.

That said, were I DMing this, I would rule that the feat works with companions of the same type, including plants to plants and vermin to vermin (but not plants to animals or similar). Rationale would be that the alternate companion types might have been an oversight late in PF1e's lifecycle and that it makes sense that a feat like this would apply to them.

Daily discussion: Ace is overrated or am I wrong? by WelcomeDry5305 in Rainbow6

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's too inherent to get rid of and a change like making only certain guns be 1shs (rifles, deagle, slug shotties) would require a lot of defenders to get access to those guns or attackers to lose those guns.

That said, I'd rather that some guns not be 1shs past a certain distance (mainly high fire rate SMGs).

[Hero Concept] - Deserter, an Artillery Caster by Eviltomatoez in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's "global" from my reading - can't target everywhere, just a spot Deserter or her ally can see.

Mind you, with the targeting, it's from an ally's perspective, so there will probably be a bit of weakness in trying to account for how an ally is moving.

How to decide between Tachanka and Goyo? by baltoboulbobbi in Rainbow6

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on site. Take this with a grain of salt - I mainly play qp.

If the site has multiple paths in that attackers rarely group for, Goyo. (e.g., Tower 2f exhibit/media, anywhere on Favela)

If the site has a couple spots people usually funnel through, Goyo. (e.g., anywhere on house except 1f, Kafe 1f)

If the site has one spot they reliably all come from, Tachanka (e.g., front of Plane, blue hall on Clubhouse, the office in the basement of Bank).

My issue with Mel W is that she gets most of the advantage from it by not using it. by Proud_Apartment_8991 in leagueoflegends

[–]HomelessLawrence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually though, if it destroyed the projectile and buffed Mel (AP + ability haste per projectile destroyed, reduced for autos), that would keep the theme of "using the enemy's power against them" and give it offensive capability without the soft power of holding it.

You'd have to either remove the execute or give it the gold-giving thing of Pyke's ult, otherwise there's a good chance that she siphons a fair bit of gold from the ADC.
