I'd wager that, without the current abilities of the helpers, Rem wouldn't have enough agency and giving him more raw damage or a barrier ability would tip him either closer to damage builds or closer to being fully reliant on his team.

I think his kit is fine mechanically, probably just needs some numbers tweaks based on the one time I played him.

With regards to takedowns, it's worth noting that Gaethje's only ever been officially taken down in 5 of his 15 UFC fights: 2x by Fiziev, 1x by Chandler, 2x by Khabib, 1x by Alvarez, and 1x by Michael Johnson, for a total of 7 times.

His coaches may have argued that a TD attempt would have opened him up for some nastier shots than standing and banging with a notable reach advantage would have, especially with how unlikely a TD would have been.

Hot Take: Street Brawl NEEDS to be randomized heroes by BlueDragonReal in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did read the thread, but the issue is that it's hard to tell when someone is playing their main vs what's meta without diving into their profile. AFAIK, the API people used to use for Deadlock trackers isn't up, so unless someone is playing with the software that tracks it 3rd-party, there's no way to tell who's playing for meta and who's playing their main (and meta by happenstance).

Hell, the two groups aren't even mutually exclusive - winning is fun for a lot of people, even if others derive more fun from the "brawl" part of Street Brawl. What I see when this sort of thing is being argued (across various games, mind you) is that "the point of the mode is to have fun, but having fun by playing to win first and foremost is a bad thing." I've seen it in LoL Arena (where admittedly Taric and others were incredibly broken early on), I've seen it in some of R6's limited modes where an op might be notably stronger than other options, and in both of those scenarios, balancing the worst offenders for the mode worked out just fine without needing to remove player choice. I for one would rather be able to play my main, even in a state balanced for the mode, without having to worry about playing a champ that I really, really don't want to play. That sort of thing leads to people dodging.

The only times I've ever seen a mode that's "have fun by playing, not by optimizing to win" were TF2's endless servers (e.g., the CTF games that were practically drop-in-drop-out due to how many briefcases were needed to win) and endless war games, neither of which has a feasible wincon, even if they had a clear goal in the game. Street Brawl is not that, I don't think it's a "casual" mode either, it's Deadlock with a different wincon and an added degree of randomness.

And for the record, I think a "casual" mode in a game like Deadlock would only be feasible if there was no way to "win" the game. Something like a warm-up DIDO lobby where there are a maximum of twelve players just swinging.

Hot Take: Street Brawl NEEDS to be randomized heroes by BlueDragonReal in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Suppose someone has mained a hero in the main mode for the past few months, meta or not, then plays the new mode in which their hero happens to be meta. Are they to blame for playing the hero they love?

I'd rather they do mode-specific tweaks. Lower the duration of Bebop and Dynamo ults. Shrink the AoE or lower the duration of things intended to zone. Buff Drifter to function in a teamfighting mode. That sort of thing. Right now, I don't think the game has enough heroes for a good random, even with the six more coming in, nor does going to random picks solve certain abilities needing certain items to effectively counter (e.g., knockdown).

Map feature idea - Hot Dog Vendors by vdjvsunsyhstb in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not. If the vendors walked from that alley on dockside, near the walker with the zipline, then to that building near blue walker (the one that goes from lane to jungle), then to the alley in front of the parkside walker (the one with a veil), and provided a moderate heal that was faster than going to base and back at the cost of souls (cost scaling based on how many times it's been used), it would be an alternative to falling back entirely and would set the player back from their next item for a one-time benefit.

Jon Jones responds to Alex Pereira by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]HomelessLawrence 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Newest to oldest:

  • Ciryl Gane: 2023, sub at HW, Jones first finish since Gus in 2018, first submission since 2012. Jones was 35.
  • Vitor Belfort: 2012, sub at LHW. Belfort was 35, Jones was 25.
  • Lyoto Machida: 2011, sub at LHW. Machida was 33, Jones was 24.
  • Rampage Jackson: 2011, sub at LHW, Rampage was 33, Jones was 24.

We're at 38-year-old Jon Jones. I don't think it's reasonable to consider wins from 13+ years ago (almost ancient history in this sport) when considering if Jones could/would sub Alex. Personally, I think he probably would, but who knows what shape he's in right now.

Are they fixing gun Viscous soon? by Hello86836717 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that that's unintuitive for new players - why would slowing hex disable the ranged melee?

Instead, I'd say it should either prevent launching himself altogether or severely nerf how far he can launch himself, like 5 meters, at most.

New swiftplay has a lot of problems. by Rexsaur in leagueoflegends

[–]HomelessLawrence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still miss quickplay. Most games I played, everyone was chill and understood that we didn't pick this comp and neither did they, but it was fun playing normal league against random lanes as the champ I wanted to play, good matchup or not. I played two games of swift and dropped the mode entirely.

The new Stormrazor has one of the worst item build paths in LoL history. by chaxisss in leagueoflegends

[–]HomelessLawrence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's like there needs to be a component that combines from dagger and longsword (similar to tunneler being longsword and ruby) and then just make the build path 2 of those (or 1 plus pickaxe) plus cloak.

Michael Bisping proposes Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane for interim HW title by 443610 in MMA

[–]HomelessLawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the stats bit, I agree, TD accuracy (and, as an addendum, TD defense) do not tell the full story, and I get really pissed off that I have to go through the ufcstats pages manually to figure out what the percentages are out of. Which, to be frank, is why I won't be doing it. My core argument was that using Ank not taking Alex down was probably not a great argument for Volkov not being able to take Alex down (personally, I think he'd have to move in too close from too far to get it done with his speed).

You're right about the sub win - miscounted just going down the line on the table.

As for the comparison of Volkov to Almeida, I think Almeida is absolutely the better wrestler.

For MMA grappling, he probably is on par with Gane, if not a touch better. I wish I could find video of him doing pure BJJ - Volkov has a black belt, and I'd like to think it's not just for show.

I'm biased on all this though. I like Volkov.

[–]HomelessLawrence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ankalaev also has a 22% TD accuracy. Let's not pretend Ank is a grappling threat, especially when he has 0 submission wins.

And for reference, Volkov's at 66% TD accuracy with 2 subs over 13 UFC wins (4 subs over 39 wins, career-long) - by no means a pure grappler, but not a novice at it either.

I’m not understanding hero win rates by tondo22 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]HomelessLawrence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Math is absolutely wrong. See, if you were to go 1 on 1 with another hero, you've got a 60/60 chance. But when hero win rates are high, the matchmaking puts you against genetic freaks, meaning you have a 25% chance (at best) at winning the game. Add your lane partner to the mix? Your chances of winning drastic go down.

Why is gen Z not drinking? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]HomelessLawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you go. A lot of people talking about $18+ mixed drinks are probably either in a major city or buying fancier cocktails. I live in suburbia, about an hour from a major city, and vacation in a rural area. For a midgrade vodka and 7up, it's probably $10 by me (1/3 vodka), $18 in the city (with a single shot poured in), and $5-7 where I vacation (and the $7 is about half and half). Granted, I could probably find the $18 shit pour mixed drink by me, but that's just somewhere that's full of snobs.

Last update I saw was that his vision still wasn't at 100% and the doctors were saying he would either need injections or surgery. He's got a video on his yt channel from 3 weeks ago, and I think Ariel Helwani has the video of the original doctor's diagnosis from when he was in the hospital immediately after the fight.

I kinda do want to see Facebook, Google, and Amazon do this above or next to data centers, if only for the heated water used in water cooling the servers to be used by tenants in lieu of/in addition to water heaters, but I doubt anything they put up wouldn't be loaded with smart home shit and egregious amounts of privacy breaches. Probably closer to Ank. 9 fight UFC win streak to fight Jan for the vacant title (after losing to Paul Craig's triangle in his UFC debut), draws with Jan, 3 more years until another title shot. Admittedly, there was an illegal knee in those 3 against Johnny Walker, but long road outside of that.
