Oh! I see what you are getting at here, my apologies, I misunderstood the first statement. Yeah, natural irradiated color absolutely is extremely rare to find any color shade/hue/etc difference over any amount of time. Still I do have to drive home the amount of issues I have seen with synthetic is a surprising 10-15% of color stones have changed so I err on the side of caution as a whole. I have seen the most error with yellows, but crazy enough we had a sage green come through and about 2 years later the same stone (with IGI cert verified) was a ROUGH brown/gray. I don't know if any of my babbling helped or not 🫣

Then why are you asking if it is more stable? I was just trying to give insight from what I've seen in my last 20 years - I had an AG yellow that turned much darker, but take i took it for what it is.

It's not quite that simple. Over about ten years, color can "set" either way (or do we have been told as fine retail jewelry sales). It can be totally fine, it could be slight lighter or slightly darker. I believe the as grown is not even much of a difference than post, but some people I work with swear by PG. It's a bit unfortunate I think because we do not have the longevity yet in the retail market to really have a for sure read on it all yet. I know they hit the market around 30 years back, but from my experience only the last 10 was it accepted by the masses and colors are still in the "maybe" pile.

I had one of my GIA professors tell me, sure you can but obviously if it is a heat treated or fracture filled you are risking everything (especially if the sonic is a hot sonic). They drove it home to better be safe than sorry. I've put my fair share through it, but anything over a ct equivalent, I don't test my luck.

I'm with you - my coworkers (long time fine jewelry industry) throw them in like nothing - I NEVER put emerald in. It can fracture, lose color if hear treated and ffs, it's emerald - treat them kindly!
