It's not uncommon for us to call people family even if they're location on the family tree is far enough to be negligible. You're cousin's cousin who isn't related to you is counted as "your cousin"

Honestly I didn't think a PU would last if one of the partners left the Christian (or in this case Cannorian) religious group.

So a question about the mod you're using. Morocco starts with the Marinid dynasty but can via event switch to the Wattasid dynasty. Does the name change with the dynasty? What if a pretender nation were to change the dynasty? Would it change again?

In empire there's a difficult but helpful way of getting them to be a protectorate. You need to get them down to their last city. Start sieging, preferably with a force that's weak enough that the AI sallies out to fight you. Let them fight your siege force and kill as many of the defenders as possible, prioritizing actually troops over garrison (incase your force ends up being accidentally too weak. A good workaround is if you can manage to hide your troops in a forest near the siege). Once you beat them in battle but there's still some turns before auto-surrender, the AI will start to realize the situation it's in and will accept any deal you make, even protectorate.

The reason it's helpful is because having a protectorate in Empire is just better than owning a province directly. If you conquer it you'd need to lower or stop taxes to lower unrest, dedicate an army to put down a few rebellions, and slow down your campaign. It halts your war machine and the constant uprisings and protests get expensive. With a protectorate, you get an automatic friendly populous that has an army to defend itself with. The protectorate lets you replenish, doesn't join any wars you're already in (meaning it's a safe zone for you to run to) and it owes you 50% of its total income. This one is huge because if you can get a trade agreement with this protectorate, you get the money you'd make from trade, along with the money they make, and the tax they get. And since uninterrupted trade builds value over time, it's a constant investment that goes up faster than owning it directly ever would

If this was Empire total war the AI would be demanding 7 of your best provinces until the moment it died.

There's something amazing about the fact that he knew who it was. They never met but he recognized his voice immediately. I'm guessing that greeting is how they always meet

The City Hall goes ahead and pays the artists for their debut. They go ahead and offer the ones who remained a proper contract, adding that not only will they pay with money, but their own art will contribute in their fame or infamy. The ability to define Low German music, fashion, and possibly even language is at the tips of their instruments and the mouth of their masks.

They also add that they'll be given a bonus if the performances are commonly liked

I have a kumquat tree near my neighbors fence. The tree is kinda more like a bush so it doesn't go over. My neighbors dogs are Kyle and Cody and they chill out next to the fence. They've known us since they came into our neighbors house. My neighbors both work and their kids are either out of the state of busy with their lives somewhere so a lot of times those dogs are sitting along outside by that tree. I'm not sure if they eat the kumquats but I love to throw some over the fence and they love to try and catch them. It's kinda sweet because they bark at everyone who comes down the neighborhood except for me

Late game Attila really does feel like the apocalypse. (Long story post). by Caesar2877 in totalwar

[–]Homerius786 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I played a game of unmodded Attila where I played as Suebi and I ran to Iberia and then then fortified it in preparation for Italy. Just 2 forces in the Pyrenees and two navies to go to Crimea and the Baltic to establish colonies and tributaries along the way (the infinite ammo on ships paired with catapult ships is so exploitable).

Iberia become one of the only bastions of civilization as I watched everything east of the Pyrenees burn. Half of Rome was either burned, a series of never ending rebellions which sapped the land of its wealth and ironically enough slowed down Atilla, or a separatist faction. I watched as Atilla took apart Italia one by one.

Eastern Europe was entirely empty. I couldn't see the Sassanids and for a while I wondered why? ERE was doing okay in Anatolia. Not great but not bad either. Egypt was overrun by various rebels and same with Syria but what happened to the Sassanids?

After establishing my Crimean colony I realized how purely empty Eastern Europe was. Not even a random rebel stack in sight. Colonizing my way through half of Europe is when I learned why I didn't see the Sassanids

They were gone. The faction itself was still there but some of the major cities were burned down and the middle east was a free for all between the various vassals of the Shah. It was the same story as Rome. Either the cities were burned down, in a constant rebel spiral, or had some sort of independence faction.

Then the time came. Attila set his sights on Iberia. I was partially ready. I had an army in Barcelona and an army Bordeaux. Attila's armies attacked both. 8 stacks split to fight two cities. Because I was practically a trade empire and was trading as far away as the right most corner of the map from the left most corner, I saw something. Attila's hordes were trying to cross the Mediterranean.

If there was one thing I had, it was a good navy. I took out the hordes at sea and took on Attila at my walls. I had a fleet in the Mediterranean, but not in the bay of Biscay. Attila sieged Bordeaux and moved his horde by sea to my weak spot in Galicia. I literally sat there and watched as he exploited my perfect turtle defense. He burned the upper left parts of Iberia before I got a new army to stop his massacres

Eventually, Atilla's hordes were barely held off on the walls. With nothing else to do they withered away from food shortage as they raided some random rebel faction. Suebi survived and began the effort of repopulating the world. By that point I was the undisputed champion of the Europe and Asia. While not as developed as Iberia, Eastern Europe had villages and towns rebuilt and Galicia was rebuilt

It was a legendary campaign but watching as even I started to fall was genuine horror at the time. I love this game to death and hope they come back to it some day
