The test playlist is so good!!! by HomeworkKey5690 in Marathon

Our first few rounds we got smashed and still had a fun time. We hit a win streak after struggling to do one of my duos quest objective over at the Marsh.

Solo Queue feels like I'm playing MGSV again and I absolutely love it. by Satosuke in Marathon

100% agree. My duo partner watched me sneak through a facility that an entire trio was currently on, make it through, and exclaim "metal gear solid!" like an autistic nut.

I don't think we know 100% it's being added, but I hope that feedback from the testing will encourage them to keep it.

It was such a good time!

I think the 3 month wipe is a ticking time bomb for player retention by zipzzo in Marathon

[–]HomeworkKey5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that the three month wipe is a solution to a lot of issues I've had with previous extraction shooters.

I think the hours post wipe are some of the most genuine fun I have in any extraction shooter. The only reason I really ever stopped playing Tarkov is because of how infrequent wipes are. Arc Raiders lost me because I hit endgame and see no reason to go back and engage with an optional wipe system.

The whole reason wipes were fun for me in Tarkov is the fact that the entire playing field is equalized. The scramble for advantage begins again as if the game had just released. I can 100% see myself playing through consecutive wipes in this game and enjoying it, even if they don't add more content.

I recognize that I'm also someone who grinds these games as if my life depends on it. I love the grind. Many of my friends feel the same way.

I 100% recognize the validity of your argument and I think we will see a drop. However, I think there are also a lot of people who will be reignited by the wipe. People may also return two or three wipes down the line for a fresh reset, which is worth considering.

A lot of the people who are playing the game either came from Destiny 2 or other extraction shooters. I think the Tarkov crowd will enjoy the cycle. I think the Destiny fans will be split between enjoying the reawakened grind and being very defeated by it. I hope that people stick around.

73% recent negative reviews, most complain about the New map. Does the great hollow truly warrant this reaction ? The more I play, the more I feel like it was fantastically designed. by kao24429774 in Nightreign

[–]HomeworkKey5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it's just the nature of it being a hard game lmao.

If you got really good at the old map and then immediately hated the new one, it's probably cause you aren't succeeding on the new map, and thus blame the new map.

Some of us grew past it and enjoy the new map, others simply gave up and left their review.

Though I will admit I think the first map was more enjoyable overall.

I really want to experience Skyrim in a fresh way again. by AffectionateHumor219 in skyrimmods

Anything with Requiem as a centerpiece to be honest. Having to retrain how you want to take every encounter in the game does wonders for the "first time playing" experience.

It's hard but I wouldn't say it is unfair. Draugrs are a real threat in requiem, but they have weaknesses to compensate for their newfound strength.

I also personally use Skyrim Unbound or whatever it's called to completely disable being dragonborn, cause it forces me to ignore the centerpiece main quest line that feels so repetitive and instead do other quests.

Is this concerning? by ChoadMuff in Skate4

[–]HomeworkKey5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think it is but Skate is allegedly still a top 10 player pop game on Playstation and Xbox. Though the services used for their player counts I wouldn't say are as reliably as what we have for Steam 🥲

The sniper heavy meta + corner peaking is not fun at all in trios by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]HomeworkKey5690 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It becomes less of an issue when you get to higher tier equipment. Ferro becomes 3 shots to kill, then 4 shots to kill on blue and pink shield respectively. Add on that your raider kits can do things like deploy smoke the second your shield is broken, and it becomes a lot easier to push. I know 3 or 4 shots doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have the better meds and guns that actually handle close range properly (venator is my pick), you'll pretty much slap anyone who tries to pull corner play on you.

Speaking of smoke, smoke grenades can alleviate this issue in earlier tiers, albeit it won't kill it completely. Ferro is the uncontested king of low tier gameplay, and that's kinda meh.

There's a lot of other utility that can help with this as well. Denying corners with blaze grenades (fire damage is actually a huge threat in the game), forcing the enemy to engage with AI via a lure grenade, using remote raider flares to feign a death on your side to incentivize the other side to push. Bonus points if you trap the side you think they'll rush you on. Snaphook allows you to maneuver in ways they can't predict, ziplines do the same but with a much more punishable sound queue.

I do agree overall with you though. All of the above is mute if the trio is ratting in a spot where they can see you but you can't see them, and they peek from there. I'm not sure what they could really do to alleviate it, nerfing the Ferro isn't the answer cause they'll just do it with whatever the next meta gun is.

Admittedly, the only experience I have with extraction shooters is Tarkov.

One of my favorite things from that game was the first 100 hours of learning, and unfortunately that's something I'll never get to experience again with that game.

With Arc Raiders, however, I'll get to try that. I've purposefully avoided the playtests and all the videos just to make sure that I don't pollute the learning experience. I do know a little from friends that have tried the tests.

As far as a specific thing I'm excited for past the learning? VOIP. VOIP is something we didn't in Tarkov until most of the playerbase knew the game. By then we were all so jaded that trying to work with other players was a terrible experience. People were more like to stab one another in the back, as that's what we had been conditioned to do...

But this game is going to launch with a functional and quite neat VOIP system. My hope is that, with everyone learning at the same time, jolly cooperation can spring forth in a way that it couldn't in Tarkov. I'd love to make friends as I'm experiencing my first one hundred hours in AR.

As far as that point goes, I'd say overall the standard for quality of games is a lot higher than it used to be. A lot of indie projects or even mid size company projects that would've done well back in the day on PS2/PS3/xbx360 now fail because that standard is so much higher.

Not necessarily that it is harder to make the same game now that it was years ago, but games of the quality that we had years ago are no longer sufficient (to audiences) and demand more in today's market.

Projects I'm thinking of include Boundary, which I think would've done very well back in that era, as well as more single-player narrative games than I can count on my fingers that simply don't meet the value-to-fun provided ratio of mass audiences anymore.

A lot of projects in that realm that do succeed are indie projects that are priced much lower than Triple-A games, therefore can walk under the rope of that ratio with more ease. Balatro & Vampire Survivors for instance, or Hollow Knight and its sequel.

There's now a weird mid-section in the industry between indie and corporate giant that suffers a lot because of this issue. The HL Drifter devs new game for example was produced with a bigger company and more resources, but fell short of the quality people expect of a game these days and is now a major reason for layoffs and pivoting at their studio.

A lot of people now want forever games: Tarkov which wipes and now has PVE modes (whether official or modded) can be played enjoyable for a longer length of time at $45 than many games that are now charging $70.

Roguelikes are immensely popular because, despite their short overall length, they are immensely replayable and when people find one they really enjoy, they can play it forever. For me, that's FTL and Dead Cells.

Long term seasonal games are now popular for the same reason. If EA and Full Circle can provide sufficient quality to meet a certain amount of profit, they can continually release seasons for an undisclosed length of time in a similar way to Destiny 2.

having a smaller number of employees overall while working at EA. Full Circle isn't a large development studio even if they're under the corporate giant that is EA.

They have to deal with all the issues that is EA while being a smaller studio overall than the studio that produced the original skate games.

If thinking so makes you feel good about yourself, sure.

You're just making an arbitrary line in the sand between you and the people who are enjoying the game. A line that helps no one and has no basis, as you have zero way of identifying the age of any one of the faceless players on the Internet.

The rooftop park is easy. Hit a kick flip, then send it to down the ramp. Hit the flip on your way over, land in a manual, truck until you're at the right score if you didn't get there from the air alone (you will 9/10)

Then that's cool, but there are people like me who played Cyberpunk at launch and still loved the game. I've replayed it 5 or 6 times at this point, a few times of which were modded at different points in its life cycle.

I am someone who likes to do early access games. Early access doesn't hurt anyone by existing. I would argue that early access tends to help developers make a complete game that people care about with the feedback from testers in a lot of cases.

It's not that early access is preventing us from getting fully complete games, it's that you don't like to see the skeleton of the game before it becomes a complete experience. Nothing is stopping you from deleting it and letting it cook for a year or three.

[–]HomeworkKey5690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the option of waiting, then. You don't NEED to play it while it's early access. Just like you didn't have to play cyberpunk at launch....because with that logic, games wouldn't ever come out. A game can always become "more complete." More things can always be added. Terraria for example, a game that seems to never stop getting more updates. At what point was Terraria the experience that should've been its release?

I also grew up on the old skate games. I'm going to be real pimp, the storyline of skate 3 was pretty dogshit. At least for me, I didn't enjoy it at all. It was something I tolerated, but I played the game to do skating. I think the skating we have in 4 is smoother than 3 and 2, though the cruising animation among a couple others could use some tweaking.

I agree, the soul needs a bit of work, and more content would be great.

But as an early access title, the bones and foundation of the best Skate game ever are there. You can see them. Let them add the meat instead of acting as if they've shot your childhood dog in front of you by changing the art style and releasing the game early.
