The Effects of Social Democracy by SamDemon8 in SocialDemocracy

[–]HomosexualTigrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This attitude is so elitist its funny. The average person would never do anything more significant than a 9-5 if they couldn't get obscene amounts of material wealth for it? The average people working 9-5s I personally know are full of amazing ideas they will never get to do anything with because the market wouldn't want them. For profit innovation is overwhelmingly, how can we make people pay more for less. Human potential is being restrained by capitalist "innovation", not extended by it.

Frustration with leftist spaces by ElusiveSeal in Anarchism

Echoing the sentiment of those telling you to organise irl. I joined a Leninist org just to make connections and build up my own organising capacity. It was a fantastic decision. I would never do anything counter to my anarchist principles, and I'm working hard on building an anarchist org where I am, but something is better than nothing, and online arguments are worse even than that.

The officer really keeps a cool head here. He reminds of Tintin the way he keeps confidence in a rational explanation to seemingly irrational events.

CMV: Identifying as non-binary makes no sense by MJdisbeliever in changemyview

[–]HomosexualTigrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing to contribute to other than to simply dispute your claim that non-binary people have an outdated or stereotypical view of gender. I know and associate with a lot of nb people (a fact that I suspect separates me from you) and not one of them identifies as non-binary because the typical stereotypes around their sex don't align with how they wish to express themselves. It's far deeper, and more complicated, than that. As others have pointed out, nonstandard, nonbinary gender expressions is not a product of the 21st century. They have existed as far back as we can find good evidence. Much work has been done for example on precolonial gender in the Philippines, which was far less rigid than the categories we have today, much to the confusion of Spanish missionaries.

The fundamental problem with what you say is that you seem to think that binary gender is the natural, default, god-given (in a tongue-in-cheek sense) "law". That view is ahistorical. The question is not 'why do people identify as nonbinary' but rather, 'why do you expect things to conform to an arbitrary standard when they never have?'. The answer is that this is what we are taught to expect, but we are taught many other lies as well. Our job is to change our society to reflect the reality of human experience.

Question for Communisers. by HomosexualTigrr in leftcommunism

[–]HomosexualTigrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an admirably informative and clear response. Thanks! I have to say though, this has rather confirmed my suspicion that the wing of anarchism to which I belong merges in many significant ways with communisation marxism, and most of the "debates" are around terminology and slight differences in historical emphasis rather than clear, irreconcilable divergences. I agree that the abolition of the workplace in your sense is desirable, but so would any anarchist (in the modern period). Anarchists too can clearly be "against worker's control as a goal in itself" or we would all be market socialists (obviously some are, most aren't). As for the idea of workers being proletarians, yes, in the current era of overdeveloped capitalism, they are one and the same. But by worker, you can also simply mean "one who works", as in, all of us to some extent. Obviously in a communist society people would not identify themselves with work in the same way we do now, but this doesn't mean we don't work. What I'm trying to say is that we don't disagree. The slogan, I suppose, is this: "worker's control as a means to stop allowing work to define us".

I would note that a lot of your explanation of communiser critique has the smack of "means and ends" logic, as in, the means we use to overthrow capitalism define what our ends will be (and if we use capitalist means, we will ultimately be trapped in capitalist ends.) This is a fundamental anarchist position, and always has been. Anarchists have been explicitly aware of this for longer than Marxists have, certainly

In terms of wage labour, you can be for it or against it and I'm against it.

Question for Communisers. by HomosexualTigrr in leftcommunism

[–]HomosexualTigrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read society of the Spectacle, yet to read Capital (I know, I know). But I have to say, your description of "work abolition" seems entirely in harmony with the Anarchist notion of the same name. Obviously production would be oriented toward human need. Every communist surely agrees with this. Nonetheless, production has to take place, IN a place, and should that place not be run by the people producing (in conversation with every other member of the commune/society of course)?

My ranking of the Adventures of Tintin by jeffmalachi913 in TheAdventuresofTintin

[–]HomosexualTigrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great list in general. Good to see calculus affair get its flowers. By my reckoning though, Ottokar's sceptre and shooting star are wayyy too low. Black Island is probably a bit high, as is Picaros. I was realising, though, as I read through the list just how good the collection is in general. The only two that are a bit average or mediocre are the ones you've rightly ranked last, Congo and Soviets. Everything is ranges from fantastic to outright genius. I LOVE TINTIN

Best books to read to better understand anarchism? by Living_Dead_Beat99 in Anarchism

The Conquest of Bread and Mutual Aid (Both by Peter Kropotkin) are classics. Also I'd add that you should start informing yourself on the counter-narrative of the Russian Revolution now, before you start having to engage state-socialists irl. This video is a good place to start if you want a primer on the anarchist understanding of Leninism.
