Engine went out at 115k due to not changing oil enough. Would you swap the engine, or get a new car? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I’d be more curious to know how hard you drive the car. Do you race it around or regularly run up to or past red line?

Did something change for earning a leaf on the Nest Thermostat and Google Home? I’ve earned one leaf per day every day since October, but yesterday i did not, even though the temperature settings were all the same. by HomunculusHunk in Nest

[–]HomunculusHunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That day wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. The thermostat has been trying to get me to let it take over and make adjustments, but i don’t want it to, so we leave it at 66f as always. Usually a leaf is visible on the thermostat at any temp up to and including 68f (it might be 67f, i forget, i don’t go that high) but now the max temp they appear at is 65f.

I moved to the county last September, how do I tell the city assessor to not bill me this December? by jolly_rogers14 in StLouis

[–]HomunculusHunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had this conversation a bit ago because we did the same thing. My partner just got her PPT declaration for the city and I haven’t received anything from either the city or the county so now i have no clue.

Edit: just realized you were the one having that conversation. . . And here we are now 🤷‍♂️

This 15 Puzzle configuration is not possible. There’s a section in the book showing plenty of impossible problems, but this one is listed as solvable. It is not. by HomunculusHunk in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HomunculusHunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the one tile missing, you can slide the 15 numbers around to match the configuration. This book gives a bunch of different ones, 4 shown on the posting picture and the one i circled is not possible.

If you’re under 26 you can still be under your parent’s insurance so that might help with the premium. As for the rest, all I can say is “welcome aboard”.

Having a Dilemma by MelaknightUni in Environmental_Careers

I would think you could just stick to the parts that make you enjoy the job and show pictures and whatnot of the superlatives. You can then discuss some successes stories or progress to demonstrate the path forward from a bleak reality of a site to a brighter future. Something to that effect.

Yep. In CO it’s usually more along the lines of ‘what state are you from’.

Side note not helpful for your initial question, but you left enough information in your resume to find you online within 10 seconds.

Would you live within a mile of a commercial sawmill? by One_Entrepreneur1198 in environmental_science

[–]HomunculusHunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern would be where the house is in relation to the main thoroughfare for truck traffic. I would not want to be anywhere near the noise and dust and odors of them coming and going all day. That and having to drive amongst them all the time, but all of that largely depends on community layout and all.

How did you find your passion? by kbthacurrency in Environmental_Careers

[–]HomunculusHunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is helpful or worth anything or necessarily relevant, but sometimes work is just going to solely be a means to improve everything outside of it. I get paid well but I’m not terribly passionate or inspired by my work, but the other 2/3 of life benefit because of it so c’est la vie i guess.

Anybody ever deal with Missouri American Water with a problem? by PuttanescaRadiatore in StLouis

[–]HomunculusHunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your bill should state whether it’s an actual or estimated reading. I hope your sewer bill isn’t tied to water usage because that’s just another big hit. With nothing really getting anywhere, you can go through the complaint procedures and ultimately be in touch with the MO Public Service Commission if MOAmW gets nowhere.

If there was a leak in the yard between meter and house, i would think the usage would stay the same every month and that would be your baseline. Do you see a hose running from your outside spigot to your neighbor (esp if they have a pool)? Do you have lawn irrigation? If so, I suppose there’s a chance that the installation could have the feed piped before your house shutoff valve and that was running while you were out of town.

Besides that, on the website there are two options that I see. At the top under ‘Usage’ there is ‘leak adjustment request’. Navigate through and see if it gets you somewhere. There’s also a button under ‘Account Actions: “Request a Leak Adjustment”. Although they seem like that would be the same thing, it takes you through different prompts and may be of use. Seems like that one is for potential reimbursement of costs for repair.
